BBQ to Southerners is not simply food but a way of life. It's the food you grew up on, the food you share with friends over a beer and a warm night and the food your family heatedly debate over who does it best. In moving to Australia, we were thrilled to find Melburnians, and in turn, Peninsula folk, feel just as passionately about their food. The marrying of these two homes was the concept for Red Gum. Using traditional methods of cooking Southern BBQ at low heat over many hours, Pit Master Martin uses native woods to flavour the meat. Martin’s passion for food, creating an authentic & high quality product has translated into amazing BBQ. Come and enjoy the smoke with us!

DELICIOUS!!! All the meat we tried was cooked to perfection and melted on your mouth. The sides were also great.

Wow what a surprise find ! Everything I expected only sad thing was the chicken wings were all gone !! Very sad
Great place ! With a big party of 9 was a bit confusing at order time but when we got the food ( really quickly) it was awesome .

We had a group of 8 attend on the long weekend & we were so surprised how fast the food came out considering how packed the place was. The staff were very helpful & spot on with portion suggestions. Thanks for a great experience & delish food will definitely be back x

Everything was outstanding from the venue to the service and food. Staff were knowledgeable and advised how much we should order per person and the food was delicious. Highly recommend if you like bbq food!

Everything delicious! Cooked perfect and melted in my mouth. The waitress could have had a bit more enthusiasm, must have been having a bad night. I couldn’t hear her talk over the noise but think it was coz there was a lot of larger groups in. Definitely will go back, will even look at having a function there. :)

Food was great and service was attentive.
A great selection of sides available and the smoked meats were A1 - brisket was on point, pulled pork nice and sweet and the house made sausage to die for. Full flavors of the Buffalo wings enjoyed immensely, washed down with the Napoleone apple cider. Broccoli salad is a must and Mac n cheese was nice and cheesy.
Overall the atmosphere was laid back and relaxed. Family orientated and opportunity to share your experience with others. Communism tables allows for new meetings and sharing of each other’s experiences and recommendations.
On tap is simple however enough to chose from.

The food was okay and the service was also okay, but for the price the food was a bit underwhelming in flavour. We also had issues with small bugs being all around the table and then our food. The bugs looked like small fruit flys or something similar, probably from all the plants along the top of the wall.
We ended up basically eating what wasn’t covered and leaving. I’m not sure if that’s common or was perhaps just an issue on the day we went for lunch. Probably won’t be back because of it though.

Can't fault it! We had the brisket, sausage, buffalo wings with corn bread, mac and cheese and broccoli salad on the side. Best corn bread I've ever had, still thinking about that honey butter!

Delicious food with a wide variety of BBQ meats available. Great drinks menu and lots of local produce to choose from. We enjoyed it so much we went twice in one week on holiday. Nice menu that's easy to find and a great little area for the kids to play. Only disappointing areas were the 1.5 hours table limit at the weekend meant we got a little rushed towards the end of the our meal and not being able to sit next to the kids area despite a request to do so, both not game changers. Otherwise a really good meal, we would go again and recommend to others.

I am visiting family Australia for the month but am from Texas where BBQ is one of the main things we eat. The food was very good and was comparable to what we get in America. I was amazed at the wonderful taste. We had sausage, beef back ribs, pork chop, pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, pasta salad, crab cakes and fries. The service was great and we had a wonderful time. The owner even came out to visit with us.

We found there was not enough meat for 4 even though we ordered 5 different types a bit pricey for what meat we did get but left feeling hungry. We were not askedb if we would like a dessert our table was cleared and the doors started closing at 8.50pm we felt compelled to leave quickly. Overall the building and the ambience was good. Everyone has different experiences give it a go

We had a great meal for our group of six, shared plates - ribs and cauliflower were outstanding and my 12-year-old enjoyed her cheeseburger.
The waiter girl was very friendly and helpful, but the kitchen dropped an item from our order and we just received it at the end of the entire meal, that's why not 5 stars.
Other than that it was a lovely evening out!

Went to Red Gum BBQ for a family holiday lunch. Food was outstanding. Cannot rate the brisket and pulled pork enough. I am not a coleslaw person but I thought it was divine. We certainly will be back again.

Fantastic BBQ food that you can tell has be prepared by people who are passionate about what they do. Every dish that we tried was well above average and the Pork chop was sensational. Service was attentive, friendly and personal.

Upon arriving we were told that the Ribs were not available which was disappointing because this was the dish we were most looking forward to. The food was brought out on a share plate and we were a bit surprised that for the price on the menu, we would have expected more food particularly the pulled pork.

The most surprising part of the night was that while we were still eating, staff began cleaning up the venue such as sweeping and mopping the floors particularly the tables directly next to us and then took the sauces off our table .

When it came to desserts we had to flag a waiter as they were more interested in cleaning the place.

We ordered 3 mains, 1 desert, 1 drink each for the adults and a couple of sides dishes which came to over $180. For the price the experience didn't stack up.

Hi, l had been looking forward to going to redgum for a couple of years now. Been following the opening at Redhill and loved what l was seeing.
Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my hopes.
The meat was fantastic.
But the sides only adequate.
The coleslaw was just cabbage.
Could be amazing with some tweeking.
Matbe onion , apple in the coleslaw. Make it stand out from supermarket coleslaw for example.
Very pricey. The meat quantities are very small.
4 adults & 2 kids. Only 4 alcoholic beverages and 3 desserts. And iver $300.
We certainly didn’t leave full.

Loved the concept, friendly staff, food came out quick. Beef brisket was a little dry for me. Enjoyed all the side dishes. The water drinking glasses and cutlery look like they need replacing. Best baby change rooms I’ve ever seen!

The best American-style BBQ food I've had outside the US! Every single thing was delicious, and in generous portions too - I would have ordered seconds if I had room! Good selection of beers on tap too, and altho I didn't try any, the cocktail list looked like a lot of fun too!

I love this restaurant, however, the quality of the food was not as good this time round. The food came out within two minutes of ordering (way too fast) and the sides had not been seasoned. For the price, I expect a little more care and time be taken with the preparation.

Was overpriced for the quality of food and overall felt rushed was in and out under an hour. Spent $200 the ribs were dry, the brisket was OK. Was excited to try this place and it was dissappointing

The menu contains only 5 types of meat.

3 pork options which I don’t eat.
1 beef option
1 chicken options
1 turkey option
1 sausage option

Was told that they are not doing turkey or sausage options.

Orders the beef and chicken which was the only alternative to leaving. The chicken was red inside, undercooked and have blood vessels all over it.

The beef was tense but very fatty!! VERY FATTY!!

The roof material was falling all over our food.

Was wanting a nice refreshing summer drink, but The waitress said that they were not serving the Berry Mojitos, no other refreshing summer cocktails either. So unless your a beer drinker, go thirsty. Left with ordering a lemon lime bitters and a water and coke.

Never will come back.
For 2 people was over $120..!!
