Can’t recommend highly enough. Magnificent food and great service.
In Rebel Rebel Sean McConnell has given us one of Australia’s best offerings. Superb.
Bit noisy but otherwise food exceptional and service second to none for our group of five..
A friend recommended that I try this restaurant and I was very glad they did. Many standout dishes and a great place to share plates and good plonk. The Octopus dish, in particular, was fantastic. The wine list had a great selection and completed a positive food and beverage experience all round.
Fabulous, exciting food. Amazing wine list and of course sensational service. All round a great night!
Another lovely experience at Rebel Rebel. This time a very early dinner (5pm) before a movie at the nearby Palace Cinema. We love that RR is open all day - makes it a really appealing place to have a meal or just a snack before or after a movie.
Terrific food and a varied selection although we made the mistake of ordering two dishes with chilli (too much for us) because we didn't read the menu closely enough! The croquettes and sardines were delicious and the Rhubarb Fool was just beautiful.
And the staff are charming and right on the ball!
Great place but much much much too noisy. Love the venue and love the food from previous visit. But Saturday it was deafening and we had to leave before we ordered.
We went for Saturday brunch. The food and service were excellent - a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It wasn't overly busy and we found the noise level less bothersome than on our first visit. I think they're considering some noise deadening measures which will make it a particularly attractive place to dine. A great new addition to the Canberra dining scene.
Really interesting menu, friendly service and great ambience.
From the minute we entered Nathan, our waiter made us feel welcome. Nathan's knowledge of the menu and the wine list was outstanding and his recommendations were very helpful, particularly the Canberra region wine by Ravensworth (skin Contact Pinot Gris). Sean McConnell's menu, "modern Australian with a vague European lean" is interesting with an emphasis on vegetables. We chose an array of dishes from a tuna tartare with watermelon and feta, pickled octopus, sardine piadina and eggplant with a spicy addition of nduja and almonds and mint. Oops nearly forgot the chips, possibly the best in Australia! We could not resist deserts and shared the chocolate, liquorice and macademia and the roasted rhubarb fool. It was great to see Sean in the kitchen too! We will return and highly recommend
Rebel Rebel was a fantastic restaurant that provided a great atmosphere, will well served amazing food that was a true treat
Outstanding modern Australian cuisine. Very innovative. I’ll be back
Great service great food. Loved the steak tartare and the mackerel. Might wanna set up a degustation so I can try more at once :) overall great time.
Beautiful food, attentive staff, contemporary setting.
Fabulous food & service. Good to see Sean McConnell on the floor amongst the diners.
My son recommended Rebel Rebel to me - terrific dining experience.
Lovely service but the food was pretty average; strange flavour combinations, undercooked.
Nectarines in the salad were hard and had a chunk seed in it.
Beef rump cooked perfectly but somehow had no flavour.
Has lots of potential. Would go again, just needs a tuning.
My partner and I had a fantastic meal at Rebel Rebel this week. The restaurant is lovely without being pretentious, the staff knowledgeable and friendly and the food was to die for. We had the beef tartare, croqueta, pork neck, rump cap, broccolini and chips and everything was fantastic and so moreish. We will definitely be returning.
we booked a table for five people and had a fixed menue with free drink on arrival. Once sitted, the free drink never arrived. me and my partner ordered drinks to match dinner meals and those regularly arrived late or not until the waiter had to be reminded. this was the same for the free drink which only arrived once our second course was being cleared.
My mother and partner happened to be in the same restaurant but some tables away. they received exactly the same amount of food as the five of us. When I asked the waiting stuff why this was the case the response was "oh reallyy.... sorry about that". Not a response you expect of professional waiting stuff in a fine dining restaurant.
Overall very disapponted. would not recommand spanding money to be treated so badly.
Very dissappointing dining experience. Went there for NY dinner - was a set menu - the food was below average, as was the service. For starters, when you offer a free glass of bubbles on arrival - actually fill the glass up. What was served was a third glass full - it looked mean and disingenuous. Honestly if you can't afford to give away a glass of bubbles, don't advertise it. This set the theme for the night, everything was just 30% ok, out of the 9 dishes, maybe 3 were okay including the fresh oysters. The rest of the dishes lacked seasoning, finesse and innovation. The menu ended with a piece of blue cheese and crackers (so 2005!). Blue cheese is very divisive at the best of times, and its certainly not what you want to end a meal on...but maybe they got the cheese on special. All in all I think the restaurant is a bit try hard..like the new kid on the block trying to be cool, when really they should just focus on getting the basics right. Good food, good service and recognising that Australians have come a long way in their food revolution, so we don't need another pretentious eating place.
Food was amazing, not your regular breakfast menu. Can’t wait to go back and try all the other choices. Perfect service as well.
Very good food, lovely service and a beautiful look...a real treat.
A pleasant dining experience with a variety of tasty share-plate options. That said, our companion vegan diners were not well-catered for: ie, dishes offered with ingredient deletions or just standard side-dishes rather than prepared options. The latter was a disappointment and could easily be rectified to enhance the overall dining experience. A good variety of wines by the bottle or by glass are available. We would dine again.
Look, I had great expectations of dinner at this restaurant, but we arrived to find it transformed into a booze party for local office workers. They were very noisy as you would expect. What was to be a cosy family outing became a noisy bar experience. The food was very good but the servings were sparse for 3 people. In expectation of a dark beer we ended up with a strange brew tasting like wild apple cider costing $48 a bottle. So the drink was a complete fizzer as they say...and the evening overall was not much better.
Taste...yours or mine...forever stimulating....Our review of Rebel Rebel comes from a background of trying to represent “ early adopters”, where experiences risk being disappointing. Not so with Rebel Rebel. We chose a modest array of the evening menu, each small bite and more robust item being as creative, enjoyable and satisfying as the next..no need to mention our choice as our neighbouring table chose differently but were equally impressed. Our sommelier for the evening was full of sound knowledge and “leave it up to you” choice of glass of white and red were equally matching to our preferred taste. This is one of our mapped best places to revisit. Congratulations to our host on aspiring to innovation and risk taking in an increasingly competitive Canberra market.
Absolutely loved our lunch at Rebel Rebel!!!
Service was seriously perfect - could not fault a single thing. Staff explained dishes, offered alternatives for vegan options and generally made us all feel like we were royalty 💕 food itself was spectacular in visual appeal and flavours.
We’ll be back 🙌🙌
Great spot with interesting menu, great coffee and excellent service. Have been twice for brunch and the granola eaters said it was the best they’ve ever had!
Really varied, interesting and, most importantly, tasty food! Even my 11 YO daughter enjoyed the different tastes and textures. Our waiter especially, made the night as he was very informative and helpful with his suggestions regarding the menu, wine and after dinner drinks spot on. The venue can be quite loud, so a bit of a challenge having a dinner conversation. Overall we'll certainly be back.
Delicious food, lovely wait staff, incredible cocktails. Becoming a favourite!
Terrific venue with very polished vibe and professional staff both front of house and the kitchen. Nice atmosphere with background music but easily able to have a conversation. Thanks Rebel Rebel and lived up to the “Gourmet Traveller” review.
My poached eggs were very overcooked (pretty-much hard-boiled) and the whole dish was bland.
Seated outside it was a little difficult to get service at times.
The other meals looked good, and the drinks (tea/coffee) were fine.
The food was good but not outstanding and therefore not value for money. The noise in a full restaurant at dinner service was outrageous. We were three people on a table and we had to shout to be heard. I have told many people and I will not return unless I hear that it has been addressed.
We had the set menu as we were a table of eight. Food was much better last time we visited, when we ordered a la carte. Starters were good (oyster, croquette, trout, sardines) but mains (swordfish, pork neck) were only so so. Veges were good but there could have been more of them. Dessert (liquorice and chocolate) was OK, but there were better options on the menu. Still it's a good place with excellent service and a great sound track. I will return.
Too loud for a dining venue. You shouldn’t have to scream when chatting with friends over dinner. Cocktail had to be sent back because it was undrinkable. 1 out of here dishes orders was delicious, the other two were ok. But the staff were wonderful.
Lots of tasty vegetarian food. Very creative kitchen
Meat was gristle and had to quietly be tucked into a serviette and hidden under plate. Serves very small for the price. Lazy service to place couples right next to each other when the rest of the restaurant was empty. Loud room.
Whilst the swordfish and broccolini were amazing we were disappointed by the aftertaste of bbq on a couple of the dishes. The wine was lovely but the clearing of tables whilst still eating was a put off.
Great food, wine and service. Wonderful new addition to the Canberra scene.
