Purple Cafe and Wine Bar - Seattle
We feature an expansive menu ranging from artisan cheeses, starters, soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas to pasta and seafood. We take a great deal of pride in utilizing the most fresh and local ingredients.
On the wine side of things our wine list features over 80 glass and 600 bottle selections. Over the years our wine program has been recognized with various accolades that include an "Award of Ultimate Distinction" from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and being named "Best Wine Bar" by Evening Magazine's Best of Western Washington Viewers Poll.
Good vegetarian options. Loved the roasted cauliflower starter and the gorgonzola pizza.
If you want ambiance this is the place. If you want quality food, then it's probably not. It has a great setting, however, all four of us had luke warm food served to us.
Good wine offering! Great place to go for drinks and a variety of foods. Value for money.
This place is more about atmosphere than anything else. It's a little north of the touristy areas which is nice but it's just so loud in there it is impossible to have a conversation. Food was middle of the road and service was not worth the extra 20% that you are charged but all restaurants. At best if I was leaving a tip for our meal, it would have maxed out at 18%. I entertained a party of 4, so for 4 entrees, 1 appetizer, 2 wines, 2 cocktails and 2 beers and 1 desert it was $365. If you are looking for a quieter atmosphere with a little more attention from the staff I'd recommend Capitol Grille directly across the street.
Got there early and ended up sitting at the bar instead of taking our table. Ordered their cheeseburger medium-well and it came out more medium-rare. Mussels were good. Service was good and bar tenders were attentive.
The atmosphere is unique and so enjoyable. We were helped in picking out a nice bottle of wine that was delightful and affordable. We will be back again!
Be prepared for a loud and crowded dining experience. That said, Purple is in a prime location and the food is good for the most part. We had the cauliflower appetizer which was the best food of the night. The Beet Salad needed more beet and less frisee. The Squash Risotto was not warm enough and surprisingly under seasoned, which made it rather flat on the tongue.
The place was full, good vibe and nice. It was busy and when we had questions about the menu, felt like were we inconveniencing the server. The pizza and scallops were good. Pumpkin risotto was not very good and arrived luke warm at best. The server took them back and returned them luke warm again. She did not follow up with us and regrettably, our 2 friends just ate it and didn’t complain again as it was getting late. A 20% tip was added to our bill and then tax was added on top of the tip. We had a larger group but I expect to be informed when the service charge is automatically added. Apparently they add the 20% on all bills, not just large groups. We dine out a lot and our bill was very expensive ( almost 100 per person) and we didn’t think it was worth it. I made the reservation almost a month before going, we were looking forward to it and were disappointed.
Food took longer than expected.
It was very loud. Probably won't return. Service was great.
Loved everything about this restaurant. Great ambiance! Our server Nadia was amazing! Food was very good and reasonable. Good selection of food and wine. Convenient location.
While my first visit was quite good, my experience last night was very different. They were out of several items as well as multiple wine choices. Specifically, they only had one of the three Pinot by the glass, were out of pesto altogether (pizza and pasta) lobster mac & cheese, fried chicken sliders, and the King Salmon main. It was not the end of the evening mind you, but a 7:30 pm reservation.
The server’s suggestion, the game hen was extremely salty/over seasoned and nearly inedible. For a region that prides itself on properly seasoning meals as part of their preparation, going so far as to not have salt/pepper available at the table, this type of mistake is rather unbelievable.
While the menu isn’t overly small, having only 1 of the 3 pasta choices and no seafood choice for the main is pretty unacceptable at this price point given a mandatory 20% tip.
With all the choices in Seattle and the surrounding areas within walking/a short Uber, there is little chance I will be recommending this or going back.
Lots of vegetarian options
Delicious and very great ambiance. Great service. Recommend visiting while in Seattle.
Very noisy, tables too close together (I heard more of my neighbors conversation than I did my date). Food was good, service a bit slow, but we were in the prime time prior to theater time.
I've always had a good experience at Purple. Not as much with this last visit. We showed up at 5 for a 5:15pm reservation assuming they would seat us early. That has always happened in the past. I counted 19 open tables and it took them 15 minutes to seat us. Clearly they were under-staffed. We had to ask for water after sitting for a while. My husband's 2nd glass of wine showed up 15 minutes after ordering and when he was already done with dinner. I will say that the server attempted to make up for it. He comped that glass of wine and gave us an extra dessert to go. But they need to be better prepared for a Friday night crowd.
Wonderful food selection, great service, and romantic ambiance. We’ll be back!
We very much enjoyed our experience at Purple. Our waiter was friendly and personable, but also efficient. The food was very good! We had a show to catch and they were very good about getting us out in time. I had asked when making the reservation for a "quiet table." I don't think that exists in the restaurant. It is a lively place for sure. However, they did seat us at a corner table and we really appreciated that. This is the place I would go for a fun time with friends rather than for an intimate evening out.
Very cool ambiance. Food was average as well as service.
Good food and service but extremely loud restaurants. Chatter was very bothersome
Antonio was our server and he was simply terrific.
We went to Purple for lunch and enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner the next day. We loved it both times!
We live in Connecticut and suggested that they open a location there!!!
Reservation was for 12 Noon. Food arrived 12:52. $27 for a sandwich and non-alcoholic beverage that I couldn't finish due to timing.
The food was wonderful, service was very slow and the server was actually rude! Noise level was too high, hard to have a conversation. Disappointed that the 20% tip was built into the tab, the waiter should not have received anything more than 10% at best.
Although it is pretty noisy, the ambience was good. Hard to carry on a conversation.
My soup was perfect, the bread dried out and hard.
My friend had the steak tartare and loved it. My other friend loved her chopped salad and was happy to have ordered a half salad instead of the full sized one.
Wine as always, was wonderful and the staff was attentive to the fact we had theatre ticket. I will go back!
A favorite for incredible ambiance, interior design, and great food to boot! Always a great experience.
Thanks so much for your review, Kevin! We hope to see you again soon!
We had a wonderful experience, the food, the wine, the service was amazing! We love going to the purple ❤️
Chose Purple as a spontaneous date night. Food and service was good, ambiance was great.
Great food, very good variety of wines. Waiting area is a little small for how busy they are, and with little seating.
Fabulous food in a very funky setting. Loved it!
Thank you so much for your review, Suzie! We hope to see you again soon.
As always, we had such a great time at Purple. Wonderful food, amazing wine, excellent ambiance, and superb service. This is always our go-to for a great night on the town.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, Rebecca! So glad you enjoyed your time with us and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
I make an effort to eat here during all my trips to Seattle.
Thanks so much for your review! We look forward to seeing you on your next visit to Seattle!
Great for a nice date or special occasion!
Our party of 4 enjoyed our dinners. We had only 50 minutes and the server ensured we ordered suitable items. Each item was delicious. Only negative: the bowl of soup was too small a portion in my opinion.
Thanks so much for your review, Rebecca! I will make a note about the soup! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us.
The ambiance was very nice - interesting place.
Wait staff was excellent. I appreciated tasting a few wines before I ordered. Was somewhat surprised at the price of the wine by the glass. $19 for a 5 ounce pour of a Washington State wine. It was good (not awesome) - but c'mon.
Thank you for your review, Donna! Come join us for Happy Hour sometime! We offer bottles of our glasspours for 40% off!!! Thanks again :)
Had a great business lunch with colleagues. Everything was great.
Thanks for your review, Brent! We hope to see you again soon!
I was there for lunch midweek to meet and catch up with friends. Even though we were seated upstairs, the noice level made it hard to hear each other at times.
Thank you for your response, Julie. I am so sorry about the noise level problems you experienced, our high ceilings do make for some troubling acoustics.
Thanks for your review!
Always great food and service.
So glad you enjoy your visits with us. See you again soon! And thanks for the review.
Came for a date and it was perfect. Service was great. Menu was kind of small but it was great food regardless, lots of wines to choose from.
Thanks for your review! Our menu changes pretty often! Come see us again :)
