This is such a fun place to hang out and have a good meal and drinks.
Our food came out cold not one...not two...but three separate times. Thankfully, they did comp our meals, so that was nice. Service was slow as well.
Food was great, but service was slow. Had to request silverware when my meal came and heard from other diners that they had to as well. There was a large group at a nearby table, and a few of them still hadn't received their food when the rest of the group was done.
I can see where this place has a lot of potential but the service and food was just not that great. It may be that they are understaffed but our service was not very good. After our brunch we went down to the ping-pong table. We played a few games and kept making our way up to the bar to get a new drink. After a while a waitress told us she would take care of us. We ordered one drink each and it took 20 minutes to get the drinks. Not to say that the servers themselves were bad, again I think it is more so that they are understaffed. As for the food, way too much rosemary for my taste and my biscuits that came with my meal were extremely hard.
Parked in adjacent parking garage from 6-11:30pm for $7.
Reservation for 6pm and was seated immediately. Donnell took my happy hour order and went over the menu (non-alcoholic, alcoholic, menu items, and ones marked were specialty items).
Ordered house red wine for happy hour (ended at 6pm).
Ordered a kids cheeseburger on french toast. 3 out of 5 stars.
Fries were hot. 5 out of 5 stars.
Parents brought their kids (ages 6-8). Bustling with people for happy hour/groups in and out.
Played a round of cricket.
Overall a fun place to grab a quick bite and happy hour/date.
Great fun and good food, but expensive and can get crowded!
The food was good but could be simplified to help with quality control. The monkey bread french toast is a good example - it appeared to be underdone because making french toast monkey bread style makes it soggy. The basics were good - burgers, fries, biscuits & gravy, breakfast items. Service was a mixed bag - friendly but seemed inexperienced and unfamiliar with the restaurant. Big issues - they need to figure out how to accommodate larger parties (more than 6) via Opentable. It runs counter to the idea of having a "social" with games and stuff but you can't come with 7 or 8 people or more without going through their event staff. They also need to add a monitor and better sign-up process for the games. Despite the fact it wasn't busy, we were only able to play shuffleboard, darts, and video games. We had a hard time getting straight answers on when we could sign up for things and what the process was for signing up.
Definitely will be back. Tons of fun options , extremely loud but everyone is having a great time. Very crowded so keep up wit whoever u go with lol. Food is amazing from chicken & waffles to shrimp tacos..
Nice place to hangout with family and friends. Was not impressed with the food tho.
Food and drinks were good. Service was very friendly but extremely slow.
This was my second time going. Full disclosure - I was giving the restaurant another chance because my first experience was so genuinely terrible (1 hour 15 to get first drink; 1 hour 45 to get the apps; etc). This time....the server again seemed ill equipped to be serving (and I get it - I tried to be a server and was terrible at it!). When I did have an issue with my food (it was too spicy for me to eat - but the menu didn't say it was spicy) the server did not handle it well. Thankfully - another server or manager came by and helped me out, she removed the food from my bill and comped the juice I ordered in lieu of food. I was very grateful for that b/c that is what was missing from my first experience. But overall -this place, for me, just cannot get it together on the front end.
Great place. I’ll be going there more often for sure.
We wanted to have a good time but food came out incredibly slowly and incorrect then our bowling lane operation broke so we couldn’t even play!
The service was not very good. We were served by different people. Some of my guests started getting their tab without requesting. One of the ladies was not cordial at all.
Probably the worst restaurant in the immediate Ballston area. Food was cold and presentation was bad. Our drinks had random fruit that wasn’t even supposed to be in it. Rustico is a much better option to entertain at.
I checked in with the hostess and let her know that I would wait for my friend at the bar and we will be seated together. My friend arrives 5 minutes later, I'm waiting by the hostess table with another family for about 10 minutes and not a single person came in to check on us. Then, a gentleman comes to check on us and when we mention that it had been 15 minutes and if we could be seated at one of the MANY empty tables. The person says, i'm not the host, so I don't know what I can do. At this point, I said, please give me two menus and I'll just go ahead and seat myself.
WHEW. WHAT A MESS. You are telling me that nobody can seat people without the hostess? It was ridiculous because they weren't even full!
Very loud, shoddy service, distinctly average food.
The restaurant area was busy but not full. We had a party of 7 and 3 unexpected additions during our dinner. Midway through our dinner an employee came over and said next time we have more than reserved for we have to tell them in advance. I immediately took issue with this for several reasons:
1. At no time did this employee introduce herself so we could know who she was.
2. The restaurant was not full.
3. No explanation as to what negative affect our 3 extra people had.
4. In no way did our group take up more room than was given and in no way blocked the aisles for other guests or servers.
In addition the waiter we had provided mediocre service. He never introduced himself, only took drink orders for half of the table. The drinks took forever, they were out of several types of alcohol to include one of their signature drinks and all milkshakes. Anytime we needed something we had to shout out to the waiter. Never once did he inquire if we had received everything or if it all came out ok.
The party scene is fun in the bar area, however watch your drinks. I had a fresh drink and water taken away by an eager busser. They were kind enough to replace without questions. Party scene is cool if you don’t mind waiting on a drink. Restaurant was ok when you consider the whole experience. I’ll eat before I go next time.
Give them some time to work it out. It took an hour to get any food. The manager thought our non-alcoholic
drink had alcohol. The fancy non-alcoholic drinks had no flavor. The Siricha/peanut/hoisin french fries were good. The rest was very mediocre.
Definitely not a place if you are older than 30. Packed with millennials. Difficult to move through spaces or get drinks because of the crowds. Virtually impossible to participate in any of the popular activities such as karaoke or bowling. Received conflicting information as to how to get on wait list for activities. Food was decent.
The atmosphere is fun, and the staff is very attentive. But the food is decidedly mediocre. I've been to Punch Bowl Social 3 times now and tried 3 of their healthier options (of which there are few): kale melt, shrimp tacos, brawny salad. All were fine but not great. My companions who ordered less healthy items (fried chicken sandwich, burgers, milkshakes) were a lot happier.
I was uneasy at first because of the reviews I read, but it wasn't as bad as the reviews. My only complaint was that the staff was too friendly. What I mean by that is, so many staff kept stopping and talking to us. It was a little annoying. It was like we essentially had like 6 waiters. So many people assisted us, and just asked a bunch of questions. For example, said I wasn't a fan of this drink I had, and woman just walking by stopped and wanted to know why and was asking a bunch of questions. But it happened like 10 times. I know that's not a bad complaint, but if you keep getting interrupted, its hard to have your lunch/dinner meeting/date/etc.
The food was phenomenal! I honestly was not expecting the food to be that good. The place does have a lot going on and it would be a great place to have a party!
I went with a group to try out this new place since it’s had quite a buzz on social media. We were pretty disappointed; or drinks were overpriced for the quality and size, our server was not particularly nice or helpful and they were not as many game and entertainment options as advertised. We might try it again in a few months since they just opened, but overall we were underwhelmed
Too noisy - the noise level will easily damage the hearing of the staff working there, as well as the young regulars. You can't hear what people are talking, so you have to yell, and respectively lose your voice the next day. The so-called "bowling" was out of order, and the so-called ping-pong table was white with white balls. Other than that - great architectural idea. The server, receptionist, and manager were great. Happy New Year!
Food was horrible. Had to keep sending food back. Server was nice. Food was horrible. Chicken tasted like lunch meat chicken. Nice place to play games and hang with friends. Won’t recommend going there for food
Setup is awkward. We sat in what felt like a hallway with wait staff going back and forth yelling near doors where potential people existed to ensure they were not run into when passing. Wait staff was less then professional. When asking for a new glass that had not been cleaned and looked like the prior customers milkshake they grabbed one from the table behind us leaving the dirty one at that table.
Overall things are extremely disorganized. I was told nothing could be reserved but when we showed up everything was reserved (bowling, darts). I had a business group of seven people and we attempted to get drinks on the main floor but after 15 minutes of not being served moved upstairs. Despite letting Punchbowl know about my group reservation far in advance the entire second floor was shut down and that was not indicated ahead of time. We might’ve picked a different day so we could utilize more space.
It took several people to finally check us in and get us a table even though we had a reservation. On the whole it was poorly managed. The food and drinks were wonderful but the service was lackluster.
Perhaps I’ll come back in a few months when the kinks are worked out but not with the business group. It was embarrassing that everything was so disorganized.
Holiday celebration - the server came over to check on us 20 times over the course of 2 hours. Just over 2 visits every 15 min!! A LOT. Good was okay and punch bowl
Was over priced for quantity. Waiting for them to hit their stride - with servers and dishes - before returning.
Way too much food!
Not the best experience. Service and food were both slow. Although servers were moderately friendly, there were too many that took care of us we never knew who to expect to help us. But ironically they rarely checked in on us despite them always walking past the table. Took way too long for all food; apps, entrees and desserts. A woman who appeared to be a manager/expediter said the kitchen was backed up. They told one of our group that they ran out of the dish she ordered as they were bringing out everyone else’s dishes so we had to wait to eat until the replacement dish came out. It wasn’t even busy. Took over 10 minutes to receive a drink every time we ordered another round. It took 15 minutes to get more chips for the hummus. They were out of desserts and said they had to bake more when it tasted like they were all frozen anyways. Also, the wine list/beverage list is lacking. While the food was pretty good, the service was slow and nobody was apologetic for any of the above issues. This could be a solid addition to Ballston, but it still has quite a few kinks to work out to be successful. Needs better management.
Not sure if we simply caught them on a bad evening, but they left a lot to be desired. Miscommunication about whether reservations for activities could be taken over the phone, they ran out of certain ingredients for food and alcoholic beverages and then communicated with our group about which things were out—except there were other ingredients that were out. Extremely slow service—you’ll seriously be sitting there waving your arms only for the waiters to overlook you. Food was cold when it arrived at the table because we watched it sit there at the food prep station while the waiters gathered in the corner and talked.
I know that they just opened in Ballston, but considering that you have other locations, there’s really no excuse for how bad this instance was.
I won’t return.
I had a reservation for lunch on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm. While we waited on everyone to arrive I stood in line to reserve a bowling lane for 4. I was told it would be 2 to 3 hours. Once seated we waited a few min before anyone came to our table and finally placed drink orders, we waited over 20 min just to get our drinks to the table. We finally asked about our appetizers and they immediately showed up. We waited at least another 35-40 min for our food and once it arrived it was luke warm. I really wanted to enjoy this place but they really need to get all the kinks ironed out and work on better service. Until then I wouldn't recommend it.
Fun new hip place. Kitchen was slow. But the food was good.
