Public School - Downtown Los Angeles
I would recommend the wings, fried cauliflower (you won't know it's cauliflower) and kimchi brussel sprouts.
Service was a little slow, our salads were tasty. The beer and drinks were great. All in all I’d recommend, nice little bar with good food for the price.
It was good as usual. I have a business lunch there a couple of times a year and am never disappointed.
Amazing place. Great service and great atmosphere and great price for food
This place seemed really nice so we booked a reservation. Upon arrival no one greeted us. Multiple servers walked by and ignored us. When I asked someone if there was a hostess I was told someone will be with us shortly. No one came. By that point 4 couples had come in behind us. We all just stood there being ignored.
Finally a server came over and asked “table for 2?” Still no greeting. I said yes and that we made a reservation on open table. His response was “I don’t have access to that but we have lots of tables”. Ok so we got sat at the back near the bar.
All tables seemed to be communal so be prepared if you want a cozy spot.
Server took awhile to take our order. Food was good but menu wasn’t anything exciting. Nothing too original or unique. Basic gastropub.
We finished and no one came to clear our plates. Kinda were ignored again. Had to track down the server.
Overall it was ok. Seems like an ok spot for drinks if you sit at the bar. Maybe you’ll get better service there.
I wouldn’t rush to go back when there are so many other places to choose from.
No manger to be found either. You’d think someone would be in charge...
More of a Sports Bat than the one in Culver City.
It was super loud and we asked to be moved but nothing was done.
Fun ambiance, love that they have board games to play at your table. Their “bottomless” (about 5 drinks each, with 4 options to choose from) is great. Eggs Benedict pizza was delicious. I’ll be back!
Our group usually enjoys lunches at Public School but unfortunately our service was not so good. We had to look and ask for our waitress in order to place our food orders and she had a bit of an attitude. She never came to check on our table to see if everything was ok or if we needed more beverages or water. We also had to look and flag her down to get our check. Again, she had an attitude with us. We've never experienced poor service like this before. Hopefully this was just an "off" day for this young lady and not a regular occurance.
I've been going here for years, and it just gets better. The personnas are so much better. We were laughing and joking like old friends and the team is so awesome. the food, yum! One recommendation: Scottish Deviled Eggs! The deviled eggs are a wee bit on the small side, but think about bumping it up to match the eclectic nature of the PS with SDE. A deadly combo! See ya soon!
Came here with a few friends.. food was okay, but our server was horrible. It was almost like she just forgot about us. She would disappear for hours and we couldn’t find her. It really made the experience poor. She even told us when she greeted our table that she can’t wait to be off work and that she didn’t want to be here.
Not the greatest experience. Server forgot our drink orders and food came out cold.
Group of six and staff was accommodating and helpful.
This location has the WORST service. I really dont wanna destroy their reputation on this but maybe someone will notice and they can turn it around. The restaurant is close to my office so the team goes here often for meals. This time I had to tell the waitress I need utensils, she asked me if I needed a plates for the group appetizers, and we didnt get water until after the food was served, and we were thirsty enough I guess. I enjoy the food often, but I really would like to see an improvement in the quality of service.
If you prefer your dining experience to be in a cacophony of noise, this is the place. You cannot have a conversation with your dining partner nor understand what your server is saying. The food was actually very good and if I was in the mood for an energetic pub then our experience might have been better. Also, the maitre de did not say a word to us at the door, just put up a wait a minute gesture then grabbed 2 menus and started walking to a table. Not a word was said as the menus were placed on our table and she walked off. That probably didn't help set a positive mood. But maybe she realizes that talking makes no sense since the din is too loud to compete with.
Looks adorable. Clever theme. Fair/marginal. staff VERY nice, but forgetful.
Food was great! And reasonably priced. Games were fun while we waited. Enjoyed our stay.
Unfortunately, the restaurant really smelled like fish when we walked in. My pizza was served to me cold and the parking is horrific with nobody standing at the valet stand for a good 20 minutes while we continued to block traffic. Public school theme
was fun but I won’t be back.
Fun place with a variety of food and drink options.
Good food and at a good price. Service was excellent and for lunch importantly we were done in no time.
Amazing service and food!
We picked this restaurant for its moderate prices relative to some of the other options in the area. The food and drinks were all fine, but nothing really stands out at all. Service was quite good, attentive and friendly. I can see the attraction of the games available at the tables although we did not use them this time. All in all it was totally fine, but I'd probably try a new place next time.
Went to watch a soccer game, and do bottomless brush brunch. Was a great choice with a great atmosphere. Brunch menu is nothing special however.
Even though it's advertised as bottomless, the first thing the waitress tells you is that you only get three carafes.
I called ahead to make sure there was a vegan option, and they said yes, Impossible burger. Arrived with my party to find out they had been out of the impossible burger for days had had no other vegan entree options.
Really fun place with games to play at the table, good food and the service was excellent.
No. Food was really, really poor and very disappointing.
Our waiter was barely present leaving us with no drinks for the majority of our visit. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees and they all came at the same time. We told the manager (who delivered the entrees) it would have been nice to have had a moment to eat our apps first and he just mumbled sorry dropped the entrees and left. The food was ok, nothing special. But the service (or lack thereof) pretty much sealed the deal that this was a one and done experience at this place.
So loud in there this time and the food was not up to the level it had been on past visits. Disappointing.
Food was amazing!
Food was excellent. Fun atmosphere with decks of cards and games that could be played at your table. Cocktail was delicious when we received it 30 minutes into our meal. Had to ask the busboy for it as we never saw our waitress again after ordering. A different waiter asked how our food was. Never received a refill on my soda, and had to flag a different waiter down to get our check. On the taste of the food, I would try another Public School location but won’t be back to the downtown LA restaurant.
The impossible burger!!! So good!!!!
Food was good service was poor. Been there a few times now but won’t go again because of the service
Impossible burger was the best veggie burger I have ever had!
Great place for brunch. They ran out of mimosas but everything else was good.
Unique menu with lots of interesting dishes to choose from. Our waitress. Ashley, was charming and we will be certain to return the next time we are in LA.
Atmosphere was great. Food was quite good.
Unfortunately, we waited nearly 10 minutes until a server came by to the table. We had to back to the hostess and complained. Finally, The manager took our orders, but did not know the menu items that well.
Friendly service. Prompt with the table. Great recommendations. Not to expensive. Lots of food. Delicious.
The fish and chips were great. It's a noisy place, though, so keep that in mind.
Stone and concrete floors make it much too loud to talk when the place is full. Food was OK, but not great and service was a bit slow
The biggest thing preventing a 5-star rating was the fact they were out of multiple Happy Hour beers and hinted at possible replacements, but refused to honor any replacements.
The validated valet parking worked great. The quality of the food was excellent
