Buscombe’s Restaurant at Prospect Country House
Led by Chef de Cuisine James Miller, Buscombe’s offers a refined farm-to-table dining experience in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. The menu blends classic and modern dishes crafted from our orchard, kitchen garden, and trusted local suppliers, complemented by award-winning regional wines.

Open for dinner seven nights a week, the restaurant welcomes both staying and non-staying guests. Breakfast is available for in-house guests, with lunch on Fridays and Saturdays and group bookings by prior arrangement. Please note we do not accommodate children under 16, and a 15% surcharge applies on Sundays and public holidays.

It was our 40th wedding anniversary and we decided to have a high-quality meal to celebrate. Buscombe's was perfect for us, with excellent service, an old world ambience, and exceptional food from locally-produced ingredients. The extensive wine list allowed us to match a glass of wine with each dish, and the staff were generous with advice on the menu. A bonus was the very comfortable accommodation at the Prospect Country House. We'll be back!

We had an amazing intimate dinner in an authentic historic homestead with incredible garden views. The food was a delight and personal service by staff. Highly recommend.

Booked for an evening meal with Buscombe. Lovely setting in a traditional old stately home. We had some issues finding the right entrance - don’t be deceived by the closed gate! Once inside, we were welcomed by a polite and friendly member of staff to a warm and cosy dining room. He was attentive throughout and was very nice. There were some quite long delays in getting our main course caused by reduced staff in the kitchen (we think). I think with some greater clarity on the length of time for service, we would have got a starter to bridge the gap between courses. The food itself was nice and well prepared but also seemed to suffer from reduced staff operating in the kitchen - not a commentary on the skill of the chef at all, but more of the reality of preparing intricate dishes in a staggered service format. The dessert was lovely, we both had the Chocolate Cake. Lovely, warm and perfectly matched the early spring evening - exactly what we needed. Overall, we would recommend Buscombe to others looking for a nice meal in the vicinity of Richmond. We would further recommend opting for both a starter and main. Thank you for having us!

Booked two months ago & got a text asking for confirmation of the booking for my partners birthday only to receive a phone call on the day of our booking to say they aren’t open and didn’t know how the booking went through? Totally disappointed.

We really enjoy the atmosphere and food as we celebrated our friend birthday. The service was fantastic and we really appreciated the open fire in the lounge to finish our night.

We was lucky enough to have the place all to ourselves, Kal had everything ready for us when we arrived even had the fire place going which I muchly appreciated. Kal spent the time to give us a bit of a tour of the building and the history about the place which made our 25 Anniversary just that much more special. Service was top class and food was excellent we really enjoyed our time here, definitely recommend
