Such a great experience! I had always wanted to go and I'm glad I decided to go for my birthday. The food and drinks were delicious, we all loved The Cattywompus--especially what it was served in! The best part was the unexpected birthday beignets we received and the cute birthday card they gave me signed by the staff!

The food was definitely not bad it just wasn’t amazing. Everything looks SO good and is displayed like it will be the most delicious experience but there was something off about every dish we ordered. Catfish needed more salt and then both the andouille sausage& beans dish and the beef rib were too salty. The strawberry shortcake was lacking as well. Again, looks way better than it actually tastes. Not bad, not amazing. Also our waitress was the best! Just did not understand why the man who I believe was the manager acted like he was ready to go. Came in and was told to sit wherever, when I walked towards a specific table in the back he acted as if he didn’t want us to sit there. Meanwhile the other tables were next to the door or outside patio and it was COLD. He could visually tell people were cold but no doors were shut, etc. Probably won’t be back unless a large group decided to go.

Dined here for a late brunch on a Sunday. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Our wait person was great with a lovely smile and a warm, personable manner she had perfect timing all the way through the meal. We ordered the chicken and waffles and the shrimp and grits. Both were fantastic- the cornbread waffle was particularly outstanding. Light, fluffy and slightly sweet it was a perfect compliment to the crispy well seasoned chicken breasts on top. Neither was greasy or soggy. Perfectly cooked. My shrimp and grits was perfect for one person with about 8-10 grilled shrimp on top of a bed of grits but unfortunately the dish was swimming in the lobster sauce. While very well seasoned and tasty there was too much sauce. We had water to drink and very much enjoyed our meal. Highly recommend!

Our initial greeting with the host was not warm. He seemed distracted and did not make eye contact. It felt like we were disturbing him. My husband and I inquired with the host about the notes placed in our reservation regarding our mom’s birthday celebration and he advised he is aware of the note. However, he did not confirm the details in the reservation notes with us or confirm who the celebration was for in our party.

Needless to say, our server had to be reminded of the celebration for our mom’s birthdays that should have included a champagne toast and desserts. The dessert was brought to the table.Our server was very apologetic and acted quickly to correct this error.

However, the damage had already been done. We decided to bring our mom’s to Preux and Proper to experience a warm celebration and the execution was poor. The restaurant seemed understaffed which was interesting for New Year’s Eve.

The food was good with the exception of the pork chop which took 45mins to prepare (we were advised of this) and it was SUPER tough. We did not receive steak knives and could barely cut through it with the regular knives that were part of the table setting.

The catfish and the creamed corn on the Cobb were AMAZING. The cornbread and beignets were gummy (undercooked). The Mac and Cheese, Crab Hushpuppies and Brussels Sprouts were fair.

There are many restaurants in Los Angeles where we know we could have experienced excellent food, atmosphere and friendly staff. I would think twice about celebrating a special occasion at Preux and Proper.

My husband and I love this place! The food is outstanding. On this particular visit, the service was just so-so. We waited to be served at the bar, got a little attitude, waited over 30 minutes for our table and got major attitude from the hostess. Our group was super chill- everything was cool, but this visit definitely will make me wait awhile to come back.

The food was excellent but I f you’re ordering the Po Boy Watch out because it gets messy to eat. The venue is a little small and gets crowded quickly. Also you MUST have a reservation. The bar area isn’t really big enough to stand by the bar and get a drink.

I came here on a quiet Tuesday night. Great environment with warm, friendly service. The food is outstanding. The crab hush puppies were a standout. I had to stop myself from licking the bowl. I will definitely be back.

We had a reservation for several days & upon arrival were seated at a table outside on a cool evening. I would have liked the option of choosing seating inside or out. We were given waters and then no one approached our table for at least 20 mins. When someone finally did, I asked if they were short staffed & he said yes & he was helping our server out. He took our drink order & then another 20 mins went by. The same guy came back to ask if we were ready to order and we still did not have our drinks. At this point we said we were ready to walk out. He just shrugged and said oh ok. Not even an apology or an offer to comp our cocktails. We finally did get our drinks served by a woman who I think was our server after 45 mins!! Unreal!! The drinks were good..colorful & festive for the holidays. We paid for our drinks and left. We have no idea if the food was any good & I dont care. At that point our group agreed that there are many options in DTLA & why would we give them our business.
We walked down the street and dined at an awesome Italian place.

I am from the south... Foo was okay.... hush puppies came out burnt. Chicken sandwich was soggy because of the slaw.... It was our first time and the website made it look nicer than it was..... just a

There are metered parkings, but it is about $6/hr. If you plan to spend more than an hour, should consider the $12-15 lots around the restaurant. It is a popular place, making reservation ahead of time is a good idea. Sweet corn, octopus, spicy ham salad and the banana beignets were really good. There are only three small tables on the exterior balcony, restaurant furnished the outdoor dining with heater. It is a good place for all occasions with a bar on the bottom floor.

If the restaurant isn't busy, perhaps they do a good job?
I had a 615p reservation however, they were clearly slammed. Took over 25 mins (and a complaint to the maitre'd) just to get a drink order in. I was hungry and every aspect of service was torturously slow.
Food was fine but the experience was not.

Another over-priced brunch spot. Not impressed. The server warned us that they bring the food out when each dish is ready but not all at the same time. We sat on the second level and there was this banging sound we kept hearing coming from below that was so loud and disruptive. We heard it periodically the entire time we were there. The food didn't live up to the price.

Well Preux and Proper impresses, with a top-shelf, southern inspired meal that was an absolutely joy for all four diners. Admittedly, when we walked in and saw gumbo for $44, our collective grandmothers rolled over in their graves. The price point seemed high, but after a round of two first courses and two mains, the group of us were stuffed. I'd recommend ordering family style here, even though that's not quite clear on the menu. First up: cauliflower, perfect. A must order. Andouille with beans was a southern classic, with a sophisticated approach to sweet beans that worked. The catfish was a huge plate of crispy fried delish, ample for two, balancing the heavy flavor of catfish with the right crunch. And the pork chop was gorgeous, smoky flavored, enormous, and served over sweet beet greens. The veggies deviated from the southern formula, maybe a bit too sweet, but the dish lasted a total of three minutes at a hungry table. Banana pudding was a TBT hoot. Dear P & P, no decaf coffee? Bummer. Great service and thanks to the chefs for a memorable experience.

I was ambitious and ordered catfish, andouille sausage, corn, and crab hushpuppies. Everything was tasty although the hushpuppies were fried hard - tough exterior and somewhat doughy interior.
