Food, bland and overpriced and overrated. Very loud place and stuffy.
The upstairs dining area may be better but we were in the lower spot and it wasn’t very enjoyable. The food was average. We were disappointed overall.
fun restaurant. Great food and ambiance. We will be back again.
Service was fabulous.
I am definitely bringing my next outing here.
Food was beyond expectations, especially the porkbelly and octopus.
If the restaurant isn't busy, perhaps they do a good job?
I had a 615p reservation however, they were clearly slammed. Took over 25 mins (and a complaint to the maitre'd) just to get a drink order in. I was hungry and every aspect of service was torturously slow.
Food was fine but the experience was not.
The food here is delicious and the drink selection is wonderful. Good service, but slow in bringing our check and cashing us out. Would go again.
Food is expected to be shared, so go with a big party. Everything was excellent.
Another over-priced brunch spot. Not impressed. The server warned us that they bring the food out when each dish is ready but not all at the same time. We sat on the second level and there was this banging sound we kept hearing coming from below that was so loud and disruptive. We heard it periodically the entire time we were there. The food didn't live up to the price.
Well Preux and Proper impresses, with a top-shelf, southern inspired meal that was an absolutely joy for all four diners. Admittedly, when we walked in and saw gumbo for $44, our collective grandmothers rolled over in their graves. The price point seemed high, but after a round of two first courses and two mains, the group of us were stuffed. I'd recommend ordering family style here, even though that's not quite clear on the menu. First up: cauliflower, perfect. A must order. Andouille with beans was a southern classic, with a sophisticated approach to sweet beans that worked. The catfish was a huge plate of crispy fried delish, ample for two, balancing the heavy flavor of catfish with the right crunch. And the pork chop was gorgeous, smoky flavored, enormous, and served over sweet beet greens. The veggies deviated from the southern formula, maybe a bit too sweet, but the dish lasted a total of three minutes at a hungry table. Banana pudding was a TBT hoot. Dear P & P, no decaf coffee? Bummer. Great service and thanks to the chefs for a memorable experience.
The food was not good at all. The host who sat us down was so kind and sweet; she made the dining experience nice. We keep seeing bugs on the wall next to our food. The food was not good. Honestly, was turned off by the bugs.
Before event at Orpheum theater. Perfect spot. Delicious food. Attentive service.
I was ambitious and ordered catfish, andouille sausage, corn, and crab hushpuppies. Everything was tasty although the hushpuppies were fried hard - tough exterior and somewhat doughy interior.
Great! Except the restaurant was closed an
Amazing food. Great cocktails. We loved everything we tried. Service was slow and it was super cold when we went, buy loved the food.
A wonderful experience. Drinks and shared plates were all well prepared and very tasty, although we all ate too much.
One diner in our party had some food allergy questions and when our waitress wasn't 100% sure on some of the ingredients she brought in a manager who took great care of us and returned multiple times to ensure we were well taken care of. Very enjoyable evening.
Cornbread and Poutine were faaantastic - and the Tiki drink for 2 was served in a big copper piineapple adding to the festive feel. Fun.
Date night dinner here before a show at the Ace Hotel Theater- perfect meal (gumbo), great drinks, close location, just a great choice all around.
Amazing food and drinks. Servers were nice. Nice environment. Great for a date.
Amazing & eclectic food!
Enjoyed dinner here before a show at the Orpheum. Early enough to take advantage of happy hour drinks and appetizers. Everything we tried was wonderful. Will be back to explore the menu further.
We stumble upon this place while in LA. Quite the neighborhood find. They had an extensive happy hour special/menu. We tried the Carolina bbq cubano, fried Mississippi catfish, baked mac and cheese, braised collards and beignets. While I would have preferred less meat in the greens, overall the food had a great taste and was well seasoned. The house wine (Wycliff brut, I believe) paired well with our meal selection. Our server Chuey was very attentive and provided superb customer service. I would highly recommend for every day dining or special occasions.
Not a great place. Save your money, and fly to New Orleans. ;)
Overpriced, extremely small portions, bland cocktails and food.
Ran out of oysters before we arrived. Terrible service.
Downstairs stunk and the place was sticky. Thank god we only got desserts, which we did not even need. Glad we ate a huge meal before because the smell was a total turnoff.
Cool, hip vibe but the place is small and loud. Food was good but pricey, drinks were okay but the service was impeccable! Will be back but will try to hit happy hour and maybe grab a table outside on the patio.
Just have to differentiate the upstairs "Propper" from the downstairs "Preux" menus. "Proper" has the more diverse menu.
Great food and great atmosphere. Perfect for a date night.
Definitely recommend - such a find in the middle of downtown. Great for pre-concert, or post concert...excellent bar and amazing space!
Other than the oddity of needing to go upstairs to get a table downstairs, the atmosphere was nicely casual, the service timely and the food quality excellent. Sitting near the door does tend to punctuate the evening with the period boom of the shutting door, but that's easily overlooked thanks to the quality of the meal.
Perfect for anniversaries! The best customer service I’ve ever gotten.
Food is very hit or miss. Some dishes are delicious, some not so much. Overpriced for what you get—for these prices I’d rather go to Bavel or Majordomo.
Food was good, however the menu did not accurately reflect the menu posted on Open Table. There were not as many options unfortunately.
I ordered the hush puppies, which tasted pretty good but, on the menu, was listed as a $22 entree. When it came out, it was served as a small appetizer and I felt ripped off. I had ordered this as my only course thinking it would be enough to serve one person. I’m not sure why the waiter, who was very friendly, didn’t point out that what I had ordered was small and more like an appetizer. If I had known, I would not have ordered 4 small balls for $22.
Another thing that wasn’t so nice was the seating. The only option for chairs are bar stools crammed up against the walls. This was okay since we weren’t there long, but I could imagine it being very uncomfortable for older guests or small kids.
Overall the experience was nice, but not somewhere I would return to due to what felt like overpriced food and the fact that downtown parking is minimum $15 on top of what we paid for the food.
Great meal as always. Only problem was deciding what to order from the incredible menu
I always have a good experience when I come! The food is AMAZING, the opens definitely set the vibe, and service was fast.
Good environment. Quite enjoyable.
Sunday family brunch.
The skillet corn bread is fantastic!
We ordered a couple of the Bloody Mary versions and they were really good.
The shrimp and grits were okay , the grits were coarse ground- would have been better if creamier. Flavor was delicious.
The crawfish roil was good too and on the proper grilled bun!
One of us ordered the egg and sausage dish- it was delivered to our table long after the other dishes and hubby was not impressed. Eggs were over cooked and the sausages were dry. Hoping that was unusual.
Overall is was a good experience, would like to try the dinners.
Flavors that we have not found in any other restaurant. Bravo.
This was a cool place. Good crowd. Food was good with interesting textures and tastes. I didn’t realize it was a share plate experience but the portions were very generous. I tried a really good drink that was a gin pineapple mule type thing I loved! We skipped dessert but I wish we hadn’t. The beignets looked amazing!
Too many items on the menu to try. We'll have to go back and try more. Didn't quite understand the crush in the lower lobby/bar; upstairs there were many empty tables. We had reserved a table for two but decided to eat and drink at the bar. The wife ordered an Aperol spritz and reported it was light on Aperol; I can confirm it was also light on prosecco because I watched it being made. I had an old fashioned, and it was well built but, like most old fashioneds, mostly ice cube. The moules were good and nicely seasoned; crab hush puppies excellent; squash blossom chile relleno very tasty; and the house andouille sausage more like thuringer than andouille but still good.
