Portside at Sydney Opera House
Portside, located at the world-famous Sydney Opera House in Sydney Harbour, crafts globally-inspired and ultra-refined contemporary Australian cuisine in its elegant and welcoming restaurant. The warm tartlet with asparagus, caramelized onions and ricotta cheese and the tuna poke with avocado and macadamia nuts make superb starters. Some of Portside's specialty main dishes include the beef short rib slathered in tangy mustard butter with warm potato salad, the Atlantic salmon with artichokes and broad beans in a saffron and tomato vinaigrette, the lamb shanks with smashed peas, sping onion and mint salsa and the vegetarian-friendly fusilli pasta with smoked mozzarella, hazelnut and broccolini, all of which are sensational served alongside a premium beer or hard cider.
Portside also has a full kids' menu, making it an ideal dining destination for the whole family, as well as the premier pre-Opera restaurant.
Lovely. No complaints
Food was different (not a potatoe in sight)
but we has a lovely meal. Lamb with kumara with orange and purple carrots Yummy.
Very limited range of beer on offer and they could not supply and lime cordial for my lagger. Nor could they supply a tomatoes juice. I think they need to improve their drink range.
Service was not outstanding had trouble understanding the waitress.
Positioned right across the water from the international cruise Terminal offers great views to the harbour bridge. But bring a hat because you are looking straight in to the setting sun.
The staff are extremely friendly and polite and enjoyed a laugh. Food was exceptional and value for money.
Arriving at 850pm for our 830pm reservation, we struggled to even locate the restaurant in the busy area (opera bar etc) Portside has no signage, and when we found it, the host advised us that the kitchen had closed!! There were no people at any tables still eating, everything had been put away, it was pathetic!!! 100m away Opera bar was pumping and yet this place was totally closed.
Perfect for our pre opera dinner. Great value for money, efficient service and 10% reduction for Opera subscribers.
Had a wonderful evening watching the lights come on the bridge while enjoying a good dinner with good service. Would recommend this restaurant.
We ordered the pre theatre two course menu and the food was delicious. The view over the harbour bridge and Opera House was to die for. The service was friendly and efficient and I would definitely recommend Portside for a drink or meal.
I came here with a friend for dinner before a show in The Playhouse. The staff could not have been friendlier and helpful. The view was the Harbour Bridge....idyllic!! The food and wine was fabulous! Really lovely ambience.
Good food served promptly to get you to the opera on time. Early lunch bookings ate a great idea.
We really enjoyed the food.
Fresh and creative.
Well priced for the quality
Perfect location for a night at the Opera House
Due to the rain we requested a seat inside. So didn’t get to enjoy all the venue had to offer.
We are looking forward to going back on a sunny day and sitting outside to enjoy the total package of great views and great food.
The best place to eat before or after going to an Opera House performance. The setting is magnificent and you can make a reservation which makes life easier.
The menu is varied, many good choices. I have never been disappointed in a meal. I had the Barramundi which was delicious and we enjoyed a Cannellone bean dip as starters.
The staff are always friendly and helpful.
Highly recommend Portside Restaurant.
We have eaten many times at Portside and it never disappoints.
Last night we took a friend and unfortunately it was not up to its best. Slow delivery of drinks (but very helpful about choice of wine). Having to ask for the bread and butter ordered. However, all that minor when compared with the wait for our main courses. A wait of one hour after repeated requests, as we were going to an 8 o'clock concert.
Perfect for a pre-theatre meal, as they know the timing of when they need to serve you by. The menu is simple, but good and the food delicious. View is of course magnificent.
Great service, very tasty food, priceless location. Very happy to return.
good choices on menu, staff efficient and helpful. Barramundi was a bit overcooked.
perfect spot for pre-theater or for relaxed excellent drink and food alongside picturesque Sydney harbor
Loved the food and interesting menu at this venue. I often dine here before a show and the value and quality of this food never disappoints.
In fact the poached chicken (with brown butter, hazelnuts and truffle polenta) was amazing. I will keep coming back for great food and the fabulous views as part of my theatre experience.
Food was delicious and the service qas great.
It was a very hot day and there was no cover so it was very unpleasant and hot to sit in the sun.
I would not recommend Portside for the food or the service- but if you’re just after a glass of wine with a spectacular view of the Harbour Bridge, then it’s a great spot.
The food was fine, but nothing exceptional. We went at 6pm for dinner before a show at the Opera House, and they were sold out of oysters.
Service was practically non-existent... they didn’t seem to have been trained or have any idea about hospitality
Had my 30th wedding anniversary here yesterday and both my wife and I loved the food and the service was fantastic. Looking forward to my next visit.
We went to dinner pre-show so it was quieter at 5pm. Food was lovely and we ordered from the 3 course plus a glass of house wine for $68pp. Ambiance of the place is quite basic, nothing flash but the view is great and not too many people walking by.
Have already sent my review direct to Portside
Restaurant was hard to find due to the absence of signs. We had,a new waitress who had to be coached, but in the end, all was fine. Food was very, good, but there could have been more chouces for the fixed price option. We did not enjoy the background music.
The night was great, staff amazing, polite, attentive though “not in your fase” the only comment is that the chocolate fondant was dry the other meals great especially the Barra thank you
Went with a group of six pre balletdining. Food was delicious, and service quick and friendly. A great dining experience
The food was very good however we were at the table at 6.10pm for a 7.30 performance. Our meal (one course) arrived at the table 45 minutes later! Very disappointing.
Delicious food... compliments to the chef but staff waiting tables seemed either bored or preoccupied. Not at all attentive. Disappointing as was special occasion... my 50th birthday away from home UK
Fabulous evening with great food. The waiters and waitresses were attentive and excellent. Could not fault them. Thank you
Early dinner before the ballet, service was great, meal delicious, our group very happy!
We were happy the service has improved .
We enjoyed the 2 course special ver much
Pre-theatre Table service excellent & staff friendly.
Menu needs to be changed more regularly.
On last visit meals & side dishes came out of kitchen at all different times so some of us had nearly finished while others were only getting their main meal & the side dishes which were for all of us - we were only four on a Thursday night at 6pm & the restaurant was not full .
It was embarrassing as I had made the booking for my visiting friends. I often dine at Portside but will try elsewhere.
We've been here twice and had reasonably different experiences, yet funnily ordering the same thing.
I have a number of food allergies and ordered the tomato and zucchini stack without cheese, but the second time I dined, the dish was literally half the size of the first time.
The service on our second visit was less prompt and there was one particular waitress who seemed very frustrated.
The food tastes delicious but it would be excellent if they were consistent with their servings.
It was the third visit with my girlfriends. Food always excellent. Staff courteous and attendant. And no better way to relax and enjoy Sydney Harbour.
We had very good food, very tasty Gnocchis, good salad. The 2-course (or 3-course) is a good deal, the wine was ok, prefer Shiraz.
Ambience pleasant but we had THAT rainy day/night.
Portside is extremely convenient for pre-theatre dining at the Opera House. Service was good with a couple of minor lapses (forgot some items we'd ordered), and food was good without being outstanding. It's a very pleasant place with great views - Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Overseas Terminal. Watching the ships manoeuvre as they depart is always entertaining!
Always enjoy visiting Portside. The standard of food and service is excellent and consistent. We were particular fortunate last night with the waitress looking after us. Superb. Sorry I didn’t get her name.
Good food, good service
Good food ,excellent service, and wonderfully convenient for a before theatre meal. Couldn't ask for better.
The food was fine. The view is unmatched. The service, however, was very spotty, bordering on unprofessional, and extremely slow
