The Squire’s Landing Restaurant - Sydney
The restaurant is currently closed but there is nothing on their website to let you know and reservations are still open. We organised to have a hen's celebration here and had a confirmed booking. It wasn't until we arrived to closed restaurant and the phone number disconnected that we found out. I understand that a lot of places have closed due to COVID but having the bookings still open made it seem like you were still open currently.
I booked a table and received a confirmation, we arrived and the place was closed on a busy Saturday night in The Rocks. This was for a milestone birthday, and left us struggling to find a place that could serve us. Portside had apparently been closed for months but didn’t update their account on OpenTable.
Great dinner catch up with friends and to see the QM2 ocean liner in port. Servings were just the perfect size, food quality and presentation very good, and staff were really excellent and friendly. Will definitely return.
Lovely lunch setting with spectacular views accompanied by delicious food.

I was impressed with the flavours infused in my Barramundi main meal and the simple combination of tomatoes and string beans salad was a perfect side dish.
My husband was delighted with his pasta choice, and he is hard to please when it comes to pasta dishes.
Staff was attentive and friendly, considering the high patronage on a Saturday night at the Sydney Opera House.
We often use Portside for pre show dining.
On this occasion our experience was impacted by
a) difficulty with making phone phone booking finally confirming reservation after 3 days of leaving messages on Tuesday prior to Saturday booking.
b) table for 2 located in a corner next to a construction hoarding and behind a tour group of 36 seated at 3 one tables.
c) menu has not changed for some time and did not excite.
On plus side our waiter was excellent (service and anticipation)
The food was inventive and very tasty. We enjoyed the 2 course pre-dinner with a nice glass of house wine. It was located conveniently close to the Studio where we were attending a play.
An excellent location for pre-theatre dining. Great location by the harbour, good food and wine and excellent service. Meals arrive promptly and a well-balanced menu. Don’t tell anyone or it will get busy!

We were unfortunate to initially be "served" by an arrogant young waitress. Requesting clarification about whether the lemon, lime and bitters drink on the menu was made on the premises or came in a bottle prompted an eye roll that really sealed our negative impression. Thankfully, by the time the rest of our group arrived she had finished and we had a very capable replacement. The pasta was really undercooked but the sauce was delicious.
Food was delicious
It was necessary to reorder our cocktails since our dinner was brought out before our cocktails came. The fish was cold and just dropped down in front of us. We were never asked if we wanted anything else, even when we requested the check. Having dined in other venues close by, this was a most disappointing experience.
the menu was relatively limited and while adventurous and had a 'fun' theme, lacked sophistication fitting of the price and the venue.
Enjoyed the food, service not quite so attentive. I think possibly new staff.
Why take a booking for 8.45pm and the kitchen closes at 9pm.
I have eaten here on many occasions pre show so I thought post Designing a Legacy a supper might be nice.

We were moved inside with a late request due to extreme heat. So appreciated that they accommodated our request. Fantastic staff - always great staff !
Only 2 small criticisms. - the outer doors to the inside opera forecourt/car park were open the whole time and the air conditioning at our end couldn’t cope - also not very environmentally friendly to have open doors. Secondly we shared the Beetroot ravioli & there were only 3 ravioli - you should serve 4 for the price & for sharing!

We were in a hurry to see the opera, so had to rush our meal when a hot version of our meal did arrive.

We ate at Portside on Australia Day for lunch. Allowed us to get close to the action, have a great lunch and then wander around the Opera house for more sites of the water activities afterwards. All worked well. In addition, the food was great, loved the lamb dish, and they don’t charge a surcharge for weekends, the way many other restaurants on a Circular Quay do!
The view is wonderful and the atmosphere pleasant. The main meal options are varied and good quality however the deserts were not at all inviting. The total cost was expensive so we were clearly paying for the excellent view!!!
The staff were professional and efficient. The food choices edged toward the pretentious for what is little better than a cafe. If it weren't for the views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House location, there would be nothing to recommend Portside as a destination. The decor of the cafe provides no sense of occasion. It is, however, a quieter venue than the eating places along the concourse.
Had a fabulous evening meal at Portside, top marks for excellent food, great service and magnificent view. Only downsides: tables are way too small for four people, not enough room for plates, drinks, share food etc. Ok for 2, not 4. Also ambience was lovely until loud music began halfway through dinner. Hard to hear conversations, might as well be at Opera Bar, chose Portside because it is usually quieter. Overall a great night with friends, but some things could be improved.
My biggest disappointment at this venue considering the SOH is an iconic venue in the middle of Sydney Harbour where overseas visitors are very likely to come is the poor showing of Australian wines on the list. Why are we promoting New Zealand wines at such a venue? NZ wines are inferior to Australian wine varieties particularly in the lower priced categories. Portside, you need to consider.
Pleasant staff. Nice outlook to bridge. Reasonably quiet. HOWEVER we booked for 6pm for an 8pm show. Entre came okay but main course still nothing by 7.15pm. We yelled finally. Mains arrived 10 minutes later. Fish okay though pasta rubbery. Manager was v apologetic - evidently the full order did not get "printed out" in the kitchen (but the entre did?). Anyway she waived the charge which was v nice and we did a run for the show. And, yes, David Suchet was as excellent as we had hoped.
had the pre-theatre menu which was two courses a shared side and a glass of wine. Entrees were good however main, pasta, was really ordinary. No really worth what you pay.
Lovely view of Luna Park, the Harbour Bridge and the city skyline. There was a huge cruiser leaving so that was fun watching. Food is always lovely here. We dine before shows at the Opera House
Would have provided higher overall rating but really disappointed in customer service. Our initial waitperson was distracted/disengaged/no interest and that's not a good look for visitors, especially coming to Sydney for first time.
Everything was pretty much perfect except for the service. Service sucked, absolutely sucked. Had to flag down servers in what is a small boutique eatery that was 30% full with ample servers. Our table was dirty with hair on it, menus are not swiped clean. Unacceptable for a venue like this. Our appetisers arrived before our drink orders, for which we had to ask, where are our drinks? Our table was within 1 meter of the bar! Kitchen is good, as food was fabulous. But the service sucked.
Two course fixed price option was perfect for pre-show dining. Starter and main provided a filling meal.

Food was good. Service was not, staff were busy and had to request items multiple times. One main meal served without the listed vegetables but no adjustment to final bill made despite being advised
Close to opera house, expensive, poorly trained bar staff, no olives for martinis.
Expected to have a choice to sit in or outside it was a windy teatime but only outside was open.
It is a great spot but could do with a wider choice on the menu.
The Beetroot ravioli - delicious.3 other starters were very generous with lots of bread/crackers - something often lacking e.g. on cheese platters elsewhere. Not super up-market but not as noisy or as tacky as other outside places at the Opera House. They take bookings - a big plus when matching meals with show times.The reservation web site gives an apparent option for indoor dining which I chose but told on arrival in no uncertain terms,does not exist.
I wouldn’t recommend it at all. Lady I believe was the manager was rude. Service was terrible. Didn’t have part of the brunch we had booked. Had to constantly order drinks even though it was meant to be bottomless brunch and they’d take 10 minutes to pour a glass of champagne even though we were the only table. Absolute waste of money.
A beautiful outdoor setting looking towards the Harbour Bridge underneath the Opera House. The Beetroot Raviola was delicious!
Food is a little disappointing barramundi was not very hot and lacked flavour.
We dine at Portside 4 times every year before the ballet. The food has really improved over the last year. This last visit was by far the best due to our lovely waiter. A young man from Mexico who has been in Sydney for 4 months. He said he was new to hospitality. You certainly couldn’t tell. He was friendly, professional, efficient and attentive. The best service we have had!!!
This is a great place for an early dinner before a show at the Opera House.The food was delicious and we had a delightful waiter.
