Authenticity is the order of the day with the best meats in town prepared front and centre for all to see on a traditional Parilla (barbecue) and Asado (pit of fire). Both are expertly tended to by Porteño’s very own Goucho, Adan Abrahanowicz (yep, that’s Elvis’ dad) who has been barbecuing in this uniquely Argentinean style since he was old enough to play with fire... and he was an early starter! Just as well considering the slow cooked pig and lamb spend 8 hours splayed out over an ironwood bark fire before they hit your table.

Fantastic service, great vibe and sumptuous food. French and Italian dominate Sydney’s fine dining scene so this is a refreshing option if you’re looking for something a bit different.

Absolutely loved the experience as much as the food. There was a really lovely buzz and we were well looked after. The food was amazing and as we were only two people, we were so glad we chose the banquet option. It was wayyy too much food but we got to taste so many dishes. My favourites were the grilled octopus and the sirloin. The bread is not to be missed!

A tale of two restaurants , Food outstanding , service not so good , could not fault the food flavours great highlight bone marrow.
Service disaster no personalitly, always felt rushed on that first sitting would have spent a lot more another bottle of wine some more sides , dessert perhaps ,
Heard a lot about the restaurant was looking forward to going but would hesitate to go again

Expensive but worth it! We shared 2 mains between 3 people with an entree and 2 sides. It was plenty so overall, even though the individual dishes were expensive, they were big enough to share and it didn't cost us too much as a group.

Made the trip from Canberra to experience the menu at Porteno's in Surry Hills.
Was not disappointed!
The food is absolutely amazing - everything we tasted melted in our mouths. The Chancho a la Parilla is a must try!
The service is unmatched - very sharp!
Highly recommend and very much look forward to returning in the near future.

A bit of a clunky start as our table wasn’t ready at the reserved time and it didn’t seem to be a priority to make sure it was ready. 10 min wait standing in the door way with no info on “that’s your table but the previous guests have over-run on time” was shared - when it easily could have been. However, when we did sit the service (by Adam) was by far the friendliest, informed and welcoming one could imagine. Good info on food and portions and recommendations. He saved the day and helped make the night. Food was great - high quality meats, cooked brilliantly and tasty sides. We left very happy and satisfied on a human and consumption levels!

Everything quite enjoyable but we especially loved the bone marrow and brussel sprouts, and the morcilla and woodfired cheese were good to try too. I did find the pork belly just a tad gamey, and the entrana not as tender as expected. Service and ambience were both lovely, so it was a positive experience overall!

We have been going to Portenos for our family's birthday celebrations ever since they opened the first Portenos. The food is outstanding, cooked to perfection and very tasty.
The service is slick and the wine list of Malbecs brilliant.

Food was great and the waiter good.
The major negative was that we were moved on very quickly at the end of the meal . Given that tables were so close together and social distancing obviously not an issue - why are they still observing 2 hour sittings ? Restaurant was packed so I suspect Covid is being used as an excuse to maximise revenue opportunities by retaining the two hour sittings .

Don't be afraid to share the food because portions are large. Great service but they need more soft furnishings to dampen the sound. People tend to shout quite a bit.

Chimichurri!!!!! it was not . It was a bowl of oil with what seemed parley and garlic powder. Had the banquet, meat served all at once so it got cold. In Argetinian this is served to the table in grill BBQ table server or one at a time. The only dish i liked was the squid. Its way over priced for what you get and how u get it. St thelmo in Melbourne can show you how its done.

The waiter was a bit rude. He started winging when we told him one of our friends won't be able to make it for the dinner.

Rest everything was great. If the waiter would have been a little nicer I would have given five stars to the restaurant.

Overall, a good experience. Might come again in the future.

The quality of food was excellent which the prices reflected, however this was not matched with the uncomfortable noise levels. For a party of 6, having to almost yell across the round tables is not comfortable at all. The soundproofing needs to be improved. I will not return until I hear the soundproofing has been worked on. This would be my recommendation to friends.

Food was really good but poor customer service. Waiter didn't seem to care about explaining the menu and was rude to us after we decided to order only one dish and make a decision of ordering more later om. We felt uncomfortable and disappointed as we were paying a substantial amount of money to be treated this way.

I love porteno and bodega ,great atmosphere fantastic service and amazing food to compliment the experience. Also the memorabilia of past legends and teams of past time gives you a piece of Argentinas passion. A glass of red and tango that's all you need.

Been 3x now and food has always been mouth watering. We had the blood sausage and nine marrow w/bread for entre, then the wagyu for main (special), ending it a traditional choc icecream. Never been disappointed!

Hands down best food in town, I didn't know chicken could be so tender... restaurants usually neglect desserts and have them for the sake of having them... Porteno... holy cow, they put in into TURBO! Not much you can fault here, consistent throughout the years!

Delicious meal with informative and friendly restaurant host. We were a large booking and shared the banquet, which was a real feast. Allergies were catered for with alternative entree. Wine recommendation was perfect. Highly recommend
