We enjoyed our meal at Popla but the concept of bringing out plates ad hoc has worn thin with us, especially when we would have liked to combine vegetables ordered with the chicken and the chicken came out by itself 10 minutes after the last plate had appeared. The advantage of the shared table in this setting seems to be all win win for the restauranteur rather than for the diner as the responsibility to provide the diner with any sort of cohesive eating experience is removed. I will also say that the "large plates" for sharing were not generous sizing for the price charged. The mushroom dumpling was not a large plate by any means. We have been to numbers of restaurants where the "shared plate" is king, and there has been more consideration to the diner in that plates have arrived at the table in (food) groups that make sense to the people eating the food. I will not voluntarily go to a shared table /tasting plate style restaurant again.

small meals, expensive, food was only ok. Seating was on bench next to people with about 30cm between you.
Chairs are like something from an outdoor bbq setting and strange decor.

I took my Girlfriend to Popla for a Date and it was beautiful. The atmosphere, the staff and the food was top notch. Thank you guys I got brownie points, we will be back.

Enjoyed every mouthful. Charred Greens was terrific. Good variety of unusual wines and beers. Definitely going back when next in the region.

Popla is Bello at its best. Amazing food, fabulous service and ambiance galore. What’s not to love about this little gem of a restaurant...we’ll be back!

Magnificent food, possibly the best thing you’ll put in your mouth. Awesome service, a bar that knows what’s going on and a groovy vibe in a beautiful old building.
You have to treat yourself and then you will be planning when to go back.

When I saw the menu I was a bit overwhelmed by the ingredients in each dish but my daughter (who is an ex chef) assured me they would be sensational...…….. and they were.
I loath meat and fruit together but the chicken, (which was moist beyond belief) in its plummy loveliness, was sublime.
Gnocchi is not a favourite...…………..I have changed my mind these little pillows of fluffiness were a joy to eat.
Prawns... so simple but the flavours were outstanding.
Greens...…………. oh so good and the soy beans on the dish were an added surprise.
Bread...….. warm, soft with a topping of thinly sliced potatoes and miso butter …. sensational.
My cocktail (Lemon Myrtle Collins) was delicious.
The wait staff were so professional, no mini skirts or mid-riffs showing, no grotty aprons. One of the ladies was like a walking piece of art that lit up the room.
Other than the sensationally gorgeous food I was impressed that there were NO CHILDREN in this restaurant, a pleasant change to be able to eat dinner without being surrounded by high chairs and having toddlers running amok.
I will return and next time I will keep room for a desert.
