Philhellene, in Melbourne, celebrates traditional Greek cuisine with dashes of Cypriot and Middle Eastern influence, served in its relaxing and welcoming restaurant. The fried Philhellene calamari tossed with evoo and lemon juice and the kalitsounia pastries stuffed with mizithra cheese and fresh mint make great starters. Some of Philhellene's larger plates include the classic chargrilled chicken souvlaki with mint couscous salad, the roast leg of lamb with roasted potatoes and broad bean and pea salad and the fetta prawns fried with white wine, tomato sauce and fetta cheese with saffron rice, all of which are prepared to perfection. A delectable array of vegetarian dishes, like the vegetarian moussaka with layers of potato, eggplant and zucchini with lentil salsa topped with bŽchamel sauce, are extremely satisfying.
End your meal at Philhellene with the loukoumades Greek donuts with honey, walnuts and cinnamon and a rich coffee.

Food was fantastic- only disappointment was I was called to advise my sitting was from 6pm -8:10pm which I could deal with as it was the first time I could spend time with my parents for quite sometime. So to have the waiting staff come to us at 8pm and TELL us we had to leave because the next party arrived was rude & a tad disappointing.. 10 mins may not seem much but given it had been 10 mths since I’d seen my folks it was a long time..
Amazing food as always and the most lovely service! The staff are so passionate and accomodating and I couldn’t recommend this beautiful restaurant more. We will continue to return for years to come.
Splendid flavors; authentic; fresh. Friendly, thoughtful, informed and energetic service.
The dips, sausage, and bread were really nice. The main course was very disappointing. The calamari was pale, potatoes ordinary, lamb tasted like it was slow cooked rather than roasted as the menu said. The dessert was served well after the tea and coffee were consumed. The dessert itself was cordon part and warm in other sections. Mentalist at payment. Didn't seem concerned. Was charged a surcharge fee despite using savings. If tap is going to incur a surcharge kindly advise the customer to insert card instead.
Great night, great food, great value & great atmosphere
The food is the best Greek cuisine in Melbourne.
The entrees are especially good.
We had the classic banquet and it was just great - there were 6 men and 2 women in our party and we all had enough to eat😊.
Tasty traditional greek food, lovely atmosphere, great prices and exceptional service!
Food wasn't great.
Whilst our experience was okay I cannot say we would visit again. Entrees were lovely, although we did not receive all the items listed as being a part of that banquet. Possibly a misunderstanding with the waitress as I had requested an extra item to be added. We got that item but at the expense of missing something else.
Mains were unfortunately a disappointment - my chicken skewer was undercooked to the point I did not want to risk eating it. The lamb skewer was overcooked. The lamb shoulder, whilst very tender lacked flavour as did the other meat dishes, all very bland. Lemon potatoes - again no flavour and seemed to just be steamed baby potatoes dressed in a bit of lemon and oil. Two I did not touch as they were showing greening of the skin - these should never have been served up !
Dessert was the highlight although too many of the donuts.
We have eaten Greek many many times and this fell far short of our other experiences.
Would have been nice upon paying the bill to be asked how our meal was ☹️
The Lady owner though was lovely both upon arrival and leaving.
Food was fantastic! Took a while for the second course to arrive..
Found 2 of the mains overcooked (Lamb shoulder and Bifteki). Service was very good they were very attentive, I liked the posters everywhere. Wine list was great and we enjoyed the Assyrtiko (Santos from Santorini). Entrees were good (stuffed zucchini flowers, saganaki, dips and the sausage with peppers). It's just a pity about those 2 mains :(
Beautiful authentic Greek food and warm friendly service. Always an enjoyable experience.
Thought the quality of the food was average.
Had heard good things about this restaurant but was disappointed.
Welcoming, friendly and extensive menu. A little noisy being seated by a large group.
Your server Brooke is an absolute asset to your business, she was so pleasant, well presented, knowledgeable and very attentive to all of your customers. She is such a happy person and really made the experience lovely. Unfortunately the food on the day did measure up to the service, coming from a Greek background and haven eaten at many Greek restaurants I found your food to be tasteless on the day, I have seen that you have had some great reviews and I’m sorry I couldn’t give one but hopefully when we come again (and we will) it will be better. Please thank Brooke for us and let her know how great she is.
Great food, service and wine
Disappointed that we were greeted with a note that we needed to be out by 7:20 because of a party. We had not been told this. The waitress replied that it was indicated on our booking that we had but we had no recollection of being told to be out by 7:20pm. We had booked online over a week earlier. Only time available was 5:30 pm. They indicated we could move to another area where we could stay till 8pm. It was the area where tables had table clothes. Why were we not given seats there earlier? Much more pleasant area.
It seemed like others had booked later time slots. Why was only 5:30 pm available? Is it because we booked online? Do you prefer telephone bookings?
I gained the impression we were an inconvenience.
Whilst I’ve enjoyed Phillhellene in the past and this was the 3rd time this summer I won’t be rushing back.
Fantastic food and service. Modern Greek without pretence. I will be going again.
Excellent food and lots of fun as there was a live band & dancing & people were so happy and enjoying themselves so much their passion was contagious. The food is very nutritious and healthy and so simple & delicious. Will definitely go back again & make sure to attend live music days for extra fun
If looking for authentic Greek cuisine, this is the place to go!
Unfortunately we were rushed and told to order straight away, the waitress just wanted us gone asap, the noise level was out of control couldn't here my dinner partner across from me.
I can’t recommend this place enough...everything was 10/10...I have been there about 5 times in the last 2years& I’ve never been disappointed. The food is amazing& very fresh& so delicious. All the staff are very friendly& helpful. I went there Monday night with some friends& we had a banquet& they are very generous servings. We will be back!
Great service great food! Great for small and big families!
Outstanding service, very welcoming staff, food was delicious, fresh, great portions, highly recommended, will definitely be back!
terrific food, great choice, lovely taste, rippa venue
Great restaurant authentic lovely owners everyone should visit for amazing Greek Food
Corona virus restrictions. The place had very little traffic. But everything was very nice.
Great atmosphere. Very friendly and capable staff. Seafood platter was outstanding.
The service was good ,The food was very bad it was smelly no fresh at all.
First dining experience since COVID restrictions released. The homemade aspect of all the food is so clearly evident. Their Shared entree platter is to die for. The dips are homemade and I recommend the fava highly. Better than my mum's. Sorry mum. We then went on and chose the yemista ( stuffed vegetables) and the lamb frikasse with artichokes ( specials board). By then end, we felt like we've been fed at someone's home. Warm and comfortable and delicious. The service was unobtrusive and the wine list is plentiful and varied. Don't come here to have the mixed grill...dive into the real Greek cuisine. You won't regret it. Price point was good too and servings generous.
Amazing food, atmosphere and extremely educated staff
Never disappoints. Lovely service and delicious, authentic food. One of our favourites.
Great food and friendly service
Always a good experience at Phil
Authentic and high quality food. First choice once restaurants reopened and didn’t regret it!
This is the restaurant I've been to more than any other anywhere in the world. The food is always excellent and the service attentive without being obtrusive.
Over the years, I have introduced many of my friends to this place and I always look forward to returning. Indeed I'm salivating as I type this!
Such good fava, same for the skordalia. Loved the baked lemon lamb. If the YiaYias take the time to go here, it must be good, because they would always think home cooked food was superior to that which you could eat out, but yesterday there were quite a few YiaYia’s having their lunch. Says it all.
Family place with fresh food and tasty menu
Great food and service. I told the staff over the phone I was going for my partners birthday and as soon as we got there they knowledge him and put a candle on desert to sing happy birthday. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the music. It actually turned me off. I’m not Greek but my partner is and he couldn’t believe how boring and old fashion the music was. Otherwise it was a great night. Thank you
Beautiful food, excellent service. Looking forward to returning
