Tucked away in an old sandstone warehouse on Hobart’s iconic waterfront, Peacock and Jones is a hidden gem that celebrates the beauty of Tasmanian food. If you’re passionate about local produce, give us a visit; from your prime position in the open kitchen you’ll see your food as it’s sliced, smell it as it’s seasoned and hear it as it sizzles. Or, if you’re the kind who likes to be surprised, enjoy a spot in the under-croft away from the kitchen and surround yourself in the remarkable relics of a jam-making enterprise. Our menu is constantly changing, because our dishes are driven by what Tasmania grows.

    Went out for my partners birthday and the staff were so accommodating, we both have mild dairy allergies and the staff went out of there way to make sure there was no dairy in any of the food, the food itself was amazing as well, I had the market fish and my partner had the gnocchi, both were exceptional. Some of the best food I’ve had for a while. They also surprised us with a little chocolate fondant with a candle for my partner 10/10 definitely recommend

    We chose the 6 course Degustation with matching wines at a cost of $330 for the 2 of us. The waiter was attentive once we asked for service having been ignored for 15 mins after being seated. His knowledge of the wines being poured was okay - he had studied the tasting notes however when asked for further information he was a little bereft. The serving quantity of wine was well shy of a standard serve - I registered zero on my breathalyser upon leaving the restaurant. The food served was delicious but minuscule in serving size - we truly left the meal hungry. At least 4 of the 6 courses were literally one mouthful. We tried to make it go further by seeing how small we could cut each sliver. We did say half way through the meal that we hoped the portion size for the lamb and venison were going to be larger - we were then told we had chosen the small option. We were not given an option for small or large servings. The couple seated besides us had choices from the a-La-carte menu and their servings were so huge they couldn’t eat it all whilst we looked longingly at their leftovers. I had read a glowing review in an article promoting the restaurant and Tasmania in the “off season” - the food served was delicious, however there needs to be a better balance in quantity offered for money spent. I wouldn’t recommend the Degustation for this reason, unless you’re looking to offload some dollars or on a “special occasion” diet.

    Not impressed at all. For what they are trying to achieve and showcase there was a disconnect with FOH and the kitchen. Took them a few minutes to greet us as there was no one by the reception. Kitchen staff just looked at us but no acknowledgement. This lack of acknowledgment then continued as we were trying to get attention from a young girl ( new or a runner?) that was serving drinks to the next table . She looked at us, smiled, then walked away. We ordered cocktails to start and chose a wine for the meal. A few minutes after receiving our cocktail, the waitress brought our wine even though we were still enjoying our full cocktail. She continued with haste to pour for the other people on the table without checking with the taster if the wine was satisfactory. The front of house staff did not communicate to each other at all and were unaware of what they are selling or even the taste as they were unable to explain it to us. There was a lady with the glasses that was able to articulate the dishes as it was served. We ordered the uni entrée which was said to have 2 pieces but it was one. The waiting time between the entrée and main was close to an hour. We had a two and a half hour seating and we had to rush eating the mains in 30 mins as we have another booking in for a wine bar . The dishes were delicious and highlighted Tasmania’s ingredients. We enjoyed the wallaby tartare and the fish. All the sauces were complimented the dishes beautifully. The use of the crispy seaweed texture or the ceviche that has the slight char on the skin. It is such a shame to have these beautiful plates of food to be served with a lack of service or care it deserves. There was a lack of ambience in the restaurant itself. There was a clear divide among front of house, kitchen and patrons that enhances the cold atmosphere. It had the aim of a semi fine dining price point with diner service.

    One of the best restaurants I've been in Australia. Highly recommend. We requested for a vegetarian and nut free set menu and every single dish was amazing.

    We experienced a great local food experience at Peacock & Jones. Friendly, informative and efficient service met with delicious food beautifully presented and prepared. Snug cosy surrounds. Great choice for a winter dinner.

    Firstly… great service & ambience! Thank you to the staff! Sadly however the food was such a let down in comparison to previous visits. The lamb was undercooked, fat still solid not melting, the pumpkin side was also undercooked (almost inedible) & for the prices charged, my family were very underwhelmed. I was lucky, my little meal of soufflé and wallaby tartare was delicious, but I was the last person I wanted to enjoy the evening as we were celebrating two family members birthdays. Sadly we won’t be returning any time soon.

    It was our 21st Wedding Anniversary, husband had been here two months ago and said it was great. Well, it wasn't! We were taken to a table outside right in the middle (not very romantic) so we asked to be seated inside, which they did - so that was good. Sat down and waited for someone to come and take our drinks order (was given water straight away) - it took over 5 minutes. Ordered two glasses of bubbly, and told the waiter it was our anniversary - which I had put in the comments section when booking the table as well as indicating that we would be doing the set menu with wine pairing. Was then asked if we were ready for our bottle of wine! We asked why didn't they know what we had booked?! Then it came to the food... fig tarts, OK; Ceviche, so bland and tasteless the only taste was the Kimchi, but we had to ask why it was on the plate as it highlighted how tasteless the rest was; sea urchin on brioche, nice but so small! Then we were given the red wine for the venison and we waited... waited... waited. All waitstaff had disappeared! I had no water for 15 minutes! One waiter walked past 3 times but did not even look at us let alone give us water! By then our wine was finished. Finally the venison arrived and they refilled our glasses but only as we complained about waiting. Venison was cold, tough and barely two mouthfuls; lamb came next, well a tiny lamb cutlet, one quarter of a parsnip, half baby witlof and a bit of onion. At least it was warm. Dessert was a buttercream ice cream - whoever was on dessert shouldn't be, the quenelles were different sizes, one maple toffee thing looked like a complete mess, no finesse at all. All in all it was a complete and utter disaster. I told all this to the waiter on the night and all was said was "it's a new menu & we'll take that onboard"! Maybe they were having a bad night although the restaurant was quiet and not busy at all! So if you go to this restaurant, good luck & I hope you have a better experience.

    Chose this venue for my husband's 70th birthday. The food was great and the service excellent. Overall the atmosphere is really relaxed and very welcoming. We both enjoyed the wine pairing with the food and thought the whole experiences was great value for money.

    The staff were outstanding. We requested a cocktail not on the menu and it was no issue. They had the hotel bar make it. In the meantime they gave my mum a complimentary drink as our degustation was about to commence and her drink had not arrived. The food was also outstanding and the octopus, pork jowel and venison and dessert were outstanding. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Total value for money. $95 for 6 tasting courses. I would definitely return. Ambience is lovely and not too loud which was important as I took my elderly mother for her birthday.

    I was really looking forward to eating here after reading the reviews but it didn’t meet the hype for me. We elected for the set menu and the food was extremely slow to arrive. We spent close to 3 hours in the restaurant. Some of the dishes were nice like the kingfish and the lamb but the venison was extremely dry and over cooked.

    The food was very well prepared. It felt like the chef paid a lot of attention to the details of the dishes. Staff was friendly and informative. Overall both food and service were amazing. We had an amazing dinner there with their tasting menu.

    To begin with there was an issue with the table available for us despite making the booking. I did not expect to be sitting near the exit door in front of the kitchen at fine dining restaurant…. Sparkling water never arrived to the table, another glass of wine was a long wait and I had ti actually ask for it again. The entree was very tasty, full of flavour and generous portion but the octopus was chewy. Nice experience has finish when mains arrived, 2 cutlets of lamb very chewy and barley as if it was not even cooked, not pleasant to eat at all, almost as if I was eating some raw rice. Husband had the steak also very chewy, the only nice thing there was the horseradish cream, not to mention side of potatoes, dry like some yesterday’s leftovers. Very disappointed for what it was priced, we ended up leaving without eating the mains….

    Fig tart - complex blend of sweet and savoury - sublime! Succulent pork jowel. Sword fish main - delicious! All beautifully presented. Loved the Heritage decor. Great atmosphere - simultaneously sophisticated and cosy! Wonderful evening - thank you!!

    From the moment we walked in and greeted at the front and taken to sit in front of suspended fire, the 6 course chefs tasting menu(excellent food and matching wine) made the whole experience. Staff where knowable of the menu and took time to answer any query. Amazing night

    Absolutely loved our dining experience. The staff were lovely and very knowledgeable of each dish. We did the 6 course dining experience and each dish was delicious! We'll definitely be back next time we're in Hobart.

    We loved the ambience and vibe of the restaurant. Staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. The restaurant appeared to be very well run and warm. Wine was excellent. My husband enjoyed his meal. I had the vegetarian tasting menu but felt it was not good value and did not enough enough variety and food. The following night I had the vegetarian tasting menu at Aloft and felt that was better food and excellent value. Two of my courses, leeks and cabbage are not filling vegetables and though tasty I felt there were other autumn vegetables you could have also made hero’s of and included with them. I appreciate lots of work goes into creating your dishes but wondered had anyone actually ate the whole vegetarian menu. I do not like to voice criticism at restaurants as we have family members who run them and know how hard you all work and how challenging the last years have been. All that said I would like to come to your restaurant again if in Tasmania. Your staff are first class. Many thanks for reading this. All the best. Jenny .

    So happy we made a reservation in advance as they were fully booked and turning people away. Every aspect was amazing. Dining for a friends Birthday. They even surprised her with a slice of cake with candle. Will rave about this place for months to come..
