Pampano New York
“Best New Restaurant in America” Esquire Magazine
Ernesto is a great server!!
Nice ambiance but a lot of the items on the menu weren’t available for lunch which was a little weird. Call ahead if your heart is set on sirloin tacos, black bean soup or salmon. They might not have it. They did try to make it up to us by offering us a free dessert. I would try it again but maybe for dinner so they have more time to get deliveries and be prepared.
An old favorite living up to our recollections of the food, service and overall hospitality
Food was hugely lacking and service terrible will not return
Despite reservation Took forever to seat us. Messed up order. Way too loud. Done w this place
Very nice meal
Pampano has become my go-to upscale Mexican restaurant in NYC. The food has an authenticity I truly appreciate given my Mexican heritage and time in Mexico. The flavors are refined and delicious. The tamarindo chicken, new on the menu and recommended by knowledgeable server Ernesto, is a winner and reflects the restaurant’s Mexican coastal roots. The guacamole and shrimp tacos are musts. I always leave looking forward to my next visit.
Love the food and the drinks. Very classy restaurant in the mid town east area
Great place - had our holiday party here. Great food. Great drinks. Only sad that it was snowing so could not sit on balcony.
The food portion are small.
Great food. Good service. Insssaaaannely overpriced.
Great service. Good quality good. Very good drinks.
Nice atmosphere, a little touch of Mexico in the Middle of Manhattan.
first time dining at Pampano and we really enjoyed it. The small plates/starters are an excellent way to build a meal. The food was outstanding.
Great service - Antonio does a great job!
In general the entire staff are doing great
Was great business meal but hard to talk. Food was great. Will return.
Inviting atmosphere, delicious food. Service was impeccable.
I have visited Pampano several times. This time my friend and I had to seat in the area around the bar because we couldn't go upstairs (personal reasons). Unfortunately, the Service downstairs lack everything I had been used as to upstairs. I have to ask for salt for my guacamole a couple of times. Once the salt came, it was this tiny container that barely had any salt, those used in Hotel rooms, which is fine.. if it had enough salt. Then we were not even offered fresh pepper, just the same tiny pepper container.. very sad. Once we started our meal, we needed to ask for ice water many times. It is like our table was not in a convenient place for them. If that is the case, please let us know that we will receive less than optimal service, after all, we go there for both: Good food and good service. The food, as usual, was delicious, no complaints there but the experience loses its magic when the Service isn't good. Then when paying our bill, the server did not want us to separate our bill, even though I have done this many times. We have to take our own calculator and figure out each other's consumption. I guess it was on our part. Last time I visited, Ii was not given a glass of water at the bar area either. I wonder if the bar area is managed by someone else and that is why it works so differently from upstairs. My friend was from out of town and love Mexican food. I was very disappointed since I wanted to give a good impression of a good Mexican place that can be found in the City. She was only visiting for one day. I guess next time if I go there, I will seat upstairs.. and request better service.. than the one I had this time..
Food quality was good/excellent but portion sizes were small for the price.
The waiter was
It is my birthday month. When I made the reservations it said any special occasion and I put down birthday. Too my surprise I was brought a delicious little cake with a candle and a big square frame with a birthday hat and a happy birthday written on the bottom of the frame. I put my face through it and the waiters sang happy birthday while my friend took the picture. It was a total surprise and will be something I will not forget. Pampano is a five star restaurant. The food, drinks, service and ambiance is not to be missed. It is a must try. Take it from someone who has been their many, many times and will continue to do so.
I will be back to try this again but something has definitely changed: New owner and/or new chef? While the food was ok, the plating was bland and lost all of the ambiance that it used to have. And sorry, but the sangria tasted watered down. Pity. Bring back some of the creativity of the “old” Pampano please!
As always, a great meal and fun time
Great food and service
The food here is simply outstanding! I have eaten in Mexico’s top restaurants over the past 30 years, and Pampano compares nicely. I try to order something new each time I dine there, and this time it was the shrimp tacos and the carnitas special. Both were standouts. I am already looking forward to my next visit.
Good food, attentive service, but it’s a shame they ditched the tablecloths. Now it feels just ordinary.
Always wonderful! Very special place for a very special evening. Terrace was fabulous!
Absolutely delicious. Try the paella and the coconut shrimp. Several great gluten free options. You won’t be disappointed! My favorite NYC restaurant!
I've been to Pampano several times and they used to be much better. The guacamole used to be made at your table, and this time, they bought it out pre-made. The food was not as good as before, but still decent.
Pampano has a great atmosphere and excellent service. The plates are presented beautifully and the server was great at timing the meal. The issue we had was that the price point was not reflected in the quality of the flavors of the meal. Based on the taste of the food I feel like we overpaid for our meal. I think the atmosphere is great and the restaurant staff is excellent. A bit more time may need to be put into the seasonings of the food. We started with the guacamole (medium heat) and it was very delicious with what seemed like homemade tortilla chips. I got the black bean soup. It was okay, but not unlike other black bean soups I’ve had before. My husband ordered the “Filete Pompano” and he says the steak was cooked perfectly on the inside, but the outside tasted like burnt grill. The risotto that came with his was the best part of the meal, but the sauce was comparable to a spicy creamy ketchup. We think the food could be improved upon, especially considering we did order one of the most expensive plates the restaurant offered.
Excellent all around. Would definitely dine again.
Booked this to celebrate mine and my dads birthdays and have heard great things so we were very excited.
Unfortunately, the was horrendously slow and we had multiple waiters and bus boys who didn’t seem to communicate and took forever to bring us food, drinks and the check. And our reservation was 6:30pm on a Tuesday so it’s not like the place was packed.
Food was okay, I ordered the tuna and it was really dry and over cooked. Guacamole was good. Waiter made up for it by putting candles in the desserts and gave us a complimentary after dinner drink which was nice.
Glad I experienced but not sure if I’d go again.
Pampano never disappoints. Was able to eat outside and it was terrific. Tacos are some of the best in town and dessert just rocks it!
I used to frequent Pampano very often until moving biz and home location. Well back to the neighborhood and we were thrilled to return. Same great food and beverages with great outdoor space. The only thing less than par from the old days was the service. With a light crowd, it wasn’t from being over worked and understaffed. That said, when we were attended to, each staffer was very cordial and accommodating. They just have to be more aware of the time spent away from the table.
Amazing ceviche, beautiful atmosphere.
I recommended Pampano for a biz dinner and told everyone about the lobster tacos (which I get any time I travel to NY) and the corn and dumpling soup to learn that the new chef took both off the menu. What a shocker! Any time I have suggested clients go there this is what they get so I would think that would be a big disappointment for many customers.
I’ve been a huge fan of this restaurant but this time I was not impressed with the menu changes. The soup and lobster tacos were something I’ve never seen on other menus which was a big reason I went to Pompano in the past.
I hope the restaurant will reconsider. Why fix something if it isn’t broken? Make menu changes but don’t take off the items many loyal customers loved and differentiated you from the other million places to eat in NY.
All That said, our waiter was wonderful and apologetic about our disappointment.
Place was below par when compared to a year ago. It was a hot night and the door to the patio was left open. We had to ask them to shut it so that the A/C could do its job. The guacamole portion was half the size we enjoyed in the past. The wine selection was weak and after tasting 3 different whites which were not good we decided on beer. The service was extremely slow and we were told it was because there was a big table needing attention. We shouldn't be penalized for that, rather they needed more waitstaff. The entrees arrived and we were surprised at how small the striped bass portion was, compared to the past. In short, we always look forward to eating at Pampano but based on our experience last week we will not be back.
I just love this place. I had the striped bass and my friends had he octopu and taco platter. All amazing. Skip the overpriced guacomole - they push it on you - just say no. Go for ceviche instead
I have been to Pampano over the years and usually dine there at least 2 times a year. The food is always good but we were completely shocked at the extremely poor level of service. Our server could not remember anything we ordered, they were trying to take away our appetizers before we even finished without even asking us if we were finished. Honestly the most shockingly bad service I have had which is unfortunate as I have enjoyed the food.
Food was great. I had the sea bass and my friend had the salmon. Both were delicious. Our waiter, Arturo and the rest of the staff were very attentive.
