The restaurant features a vibrant, casual bar and dining area within a clean, warm space featuring wood floors, subway tile, zinc cladding, and industrial steampunk elements. The kitchen opens onto one of two dining rooms and the two-sided soapstone bar is built into the facade, serving 50 craft draft beers to a large bar area inside and a 60-seat beer garden outside.
We made a reservation for Friday night. When we were seated, we were not waited on or even greeted after 15 minutes. We got up after getting no kind of service and left to find another place to have dinner.
Even with a reservation, we were still not able to get service from any of the staff.
It was ok. Yes, the hosts were lovely when we walked in. However, once we were seated, it took forever for a server to come to our table. At least take our drink orders! My parents were visiting so it took my mom loudly stating "Wow! Where's our waiter?" as the host walked by to have someone come take our drinks orders. Ugh. I was embarrassed because I picked the restaurant. We were finally served beers and put our apps in. I then had the best salad of my life so that was something! Beets, goat cheese and salmon cooked medium/rare. It was delicious. There was a group of Happy Hour folks over in the corner who were incredibly loud so that was distracting. All in all, the food was good, it was too loud and I should've picked another place since my parents were visiting and I wanted everything to be perfect for them. So, it's a mixed review .....
Good food. Amazing beer list! Nice ambience. Poor service.
It could have been a great experience, but service was lackluster. Our server was downright rude.
Perhaps she was having a bad day. So, will probably give this spot another shot.
The mussels, salads and drinks were very good. My salmon was very undercooked and needed to be sent back. Burger and fries also very good. Crispy shrimp sliders were good but had too much sauce. The service was just awful. Took 20 min for someone to come greet our table and take drink orders and that was after we asked another waiter to send our waiter over. Took another 20 min for drinks to come and for waiter to take our dinner order and then starters and dinner came at nearly the same time! Then waiter wanted to clear our plates while we were still eating and drop our check (with no pen for signing). I write this detailed review because there were a lot of positives and I am hoping they will take care of the missteps.
To start with the fish and chips, very big disappointment, the grain bowl was not fresh. Service was very slow.
We made our reservation on Open Table then received a email saying we did not show for our reservation not only were we there 15 mins early we spent a lot of money that was not worth it this is not the first time something went wrong with this place!! we will not be returning!!!
Owen’s has an incredible selection of both beer and food! Could not recommend more.
Large beer and food menu. Perhaps too much to be really good at everything. However, food was good across the board, and beer options were plentiful.
Loved our server; made us fell like valued “clients”!
Love this place for consistently great food and beer selection! Service is always very friendly and helpful. It's a bit noisy, so not a place to go for quiet conversation.
The food is great, fresh and delicious flavor. Our waiter was very helpful for making choices.
The food was really expensive for the quality. Fondue was bland. Salad was bland. Mixed drinks were chemically tasting. My husband liked his beer but commented that you could go to a pricey restaurant for the same money and find much better food.
This was our first time here. The restaurant was overly crowded and understaffed. The guy at the front was great and somehow managed to get us a table within 15 minutes of our arrival. (But he forgot to check me in on OpenTable! 😁Something that we rectified easily enough.) Our waitress was overwhelmed when we got there as many of her tables were either lingering and ordering more drinks, or paying their very complicated tabs. We waited quite some time for her to take our drink order. Overall, the service was bad, but the beer and food were delicious! We each ordered a burger: one vegan, the other an actual burger, and both were actually worth the wait. We will be back. Maybe on a weekday during lunch... 😁
We had a reservation though OpenTable and arrived on time. We waited 12 minutes at the host stand without being greeted or seated. We left due to this disrespect for us and our time.
There were several groups waiting and in 12 minutes only a single server came by the host stand but oddly didn't say a word and immediately left. No restaurant should leave the host stand unattended for that long on a Friday night. We won't be back.
Waited over an hour to be seated and we had a reservation. Once seated took over 15 mins to get a waiter. We received free apps and drinks after complaining and the manager got involved. Too little too late
Waited an hour for table even though made reservations
Very enjoyable evening. Service was top notch. Loved the flatbread pizza. Went for a craft beer event they were holding. The event was handled very well. We will return when in the area.
Service was below average, especially considering restaurant was empty.
Excellent service, good food and a nice wine list. Saw several families with small children enjoying the night out.
Fun place with a very good menu.
The food was amazing! Will definitely be going back!
The name is appropriate. The food is just ... ordinary.
We’ve been to Owens a few times and we keep coming back because the food is great, the service is awesome, and their drink list is nice. We love their charcuterie platter and their entrees. I would definitely recommend it to a friend or family.
Never had a bad meal at Owen’s. People that give it a poor review seem extremely nit picky. It’s pretty decent value for a place as expensive as Bethesda.
In the mall area where it is located, there is a lot of variations on the same concept. While this is a general gatropub, it has some interesting choices and a great beer selection. The fondue is a great starter. Our server apparently isn’t normally a server but stepped up as they were understaffed. He was really helpful and had outstanding recommendations. An OK choice for an evening out.
The food was good. We switched tables to a less loud area. There was a large party in the open in a separate area next to us they were very loud whistling several times. There was another large group in the middle of the area we were in. Apparently they had some issues with a bill or something. It took our waitress about 20 minutes to correct it with the manager. Meanwhile we had been served and we had a hard time to help us with some of the food came out wrong. We have been to Owen's Ordinary several times and liked the place and the food. It is always very loud but this time it was over the top. The food, when we straightened the food mistake, was very good. The waitress was very apologizing but it was the worst experience we have had so far. I am willing to try it again because of the food.
We go to Owen’s Ordinary weekly for trivia night on Wednesday’s. The service and food are excellent! I highly recommend it.
Food delicious....service excellent. Everything prepared exactly as we requested.
Definitely going back! Our table was big so the food take a while to come but our overall experience was very good. Big shout-out to the hostess Douglas! He made us feel very welcome and everything go very smoothly.
we had a group of 10 in a reservation and they were so accommodating! we had a small private room in the back with sliding doors. the servers were excellent and the food was delicious! we had a variety of different "eaters" (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and none of the above) and everyone was satisfied with the options and their food! would definitely recommend and will likely go back!
Was expecting more considering it overall has good reviews. The place was run like a ghost town, our orders were messed up, and the food was decent at best. Would not recommend dining there especially if before 5 pm because then all they offer is burgers and salads.
A great resturant week menu and football Sunday specials in the bar. Huge selection of beers.
Love the place the food and the selection of beer. The manager was awesome and we had restaurant week so we went to try it where one eats for dinner $35 per person but I don’t think that’s worth it because with food, beer for two we spent $100 and the enter are expensive so I would not go I would just go for the beer.
Good food at fair prices. Amazing service! It was also restaurant week, so we enjoyed the specials and the bottomless mimosas!
Friendly staff! Went there for brunch restaurant week. Only had 2 courses instead of 3 but you got a free mimosa, blood Mary, or brunch punch
very good american bar food; great beer selection, upbeat if somewhat green service. danny meyerish.
We love Owen’s Ordinary, and this visit showed in every way why it is a great restaurant. We received a confirmation call a couple of hours before our reservation, and the host asked for our seating preference, which was accommodated nicely. Our service was excellent, and the food was delicious. We love the vast and changing beer menu. We highly recommend Owen’s Ordinary, both for dinner and their delicious weekend brunch.
I was three on Wednesday with a group of six for Trivia night. Fun! The Restaurant Manager, Brian, was very prompt in fixing the kitchen's error, (missed the Portobello mushrooms in a dish), and refilling our glasses. He is such an asset to the restaurant that makes up for some of the flaws in service. Overall, a great experience.
Brought two new friends to try and they loved it as well. Great location to parking and as always the food and service was great. Great menu.
Owen's has many great beers and good food as well!
We had a great time and terrific food/service. Very festive atmosphere. Appetizers were the best! Creative and yummy.
