Sicilian-born, award-winning chef Lino Sauro (Gattopardo, Singapore) opened Olio Kensington Street in early 2017 to show Sydney why Sicilian is the new Italian.

Olio Kensington Street (Italian for olive oil) is located in the beautifully restored The Old Rum Store with a contemporary indoor dining room and lush rooftop terrace overlooking Chippendale.

Sauro comes from a long lineage of self-sufficient Sicilian farmers where he grew up with meals that were created with the quality produce grown on the property. This translates into Sauro’s menu with dishes that reflect a strong connection to his Sicilian roots and passion for fresh and sustainable produce.

Keeping it in the family, Sauro sources his olive oil – the base of all his dishes – from the family’s Sicilian farm.

Can not fault the quality and taste of food but when will restaurants charging above average prices learn that small portions don’t cut it. Value not there. Staff certainly friendly but no attention to detail. We moved from a table next to a baby continually crying so why place the next couple through the door in the same seats when numerous other tables were available? Unlikely to return purely on value for money.

Had a birthday dinner here and the food was exceptional! Ordered the zucchini flower, scallops, capellini, chitarra and we were truly impressed by every dish. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back.
