I have gone here since it first opened. Have always enjoyed the fact that will take into consideration your dietary needs. The dish I ordered was different than I thought it would be. I would have liked more noodles. For dessert I had the Sorbet. I have had this many times. This was the first time there were ice crystals in it, never had that before.
There is a group I come with of 5-10 people about once a year. They love the food and we always go here. The service is excellent.

Am a regular guest at this location, where the food is consistently very good. Even though the server knew I asked for gluten free meal, the kitchen placed croutons all over my salad. Otherwise, other visits we had outstanding food, so may stick with the salad meals in the future to ensure gluten free food.

We were seated outside next to the door so there was a lot of activity, yet we were able to have a nice conversation. Our server was excellent.

My friend and I had lunch here yesterday and it was delightful in every way. I had the wedge salad with the beef grilled medium rare and my friend had the turkey club. Both were delicious! For dessert we shared the key lime pie which was quite generous. My husband wanted me to bring home the Chocolate Mousse Cake ... I decided to get one for myself for later. I'm so glad I did!! The portions were large but we were both happy we had our own piece since it was OUTSTANDING!! Some cakes like this are much too sweet for me but this was just perfect. I can't wait to go back to try the carrot cake ... I may just have to make a special trip and bring it home :)

Avery helped us with our order and kept up with all of us, as we were a bigger table. He didn’t skip a beat and had a great attitude. He made our dining experience better than it could have been even, with great conversation and jokes! Food was great and timing too!

Have eaten here many times and always received great service. But, on this last visit the service was horrible! Whenever we would ask for something, the waiter would give us a look of “really?” And my friend and I weren’t asking for anything out of the ordinary unless you consider more water and a dessert menu out of the ordinary. Didn’t check on us once our meals arrived.

Service was friendly but pretty slow. Bread was not as fresh as it had been on previous visits. It was busy so no reason for it not to be fresh. Rice in the jambalaya was a little crunchy but the other two entrees were good.

Bar area was great. Good view of the French Open on TV. Paired with food and Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA, cannot complain. Waitress was very nice, but new, and not knowledgeable about the beers on tap, but she did get us a couple of samples.

Impossible burger is great, hard to believe it is plant based.
Quinoa stir fry is also great.

There are reasonable vegetarian and whole food plant based options here on the menu.

The service was minimal at best. We barely saw our server and when we did it was as he walked past and we flagged him down. After getting our meals, he said “enjoy your meal!” as he strolled passed our table. Never asked if it was ok or if he could get us anything. A friend ordered the coconut shrimp as an appetizer and was never asked if he was ready to order an entree....so he never did! My chicken salad was deli meat! Paid $15 for an overly sweet deli meat salad. Not impressed and won’t be back.

Great place in Reston that has consistently good service and plenty of menu options. They are adding/changing menu items each seasson which is nice. Plenty of healthy options and good beverage choices at the bar. I am a frequent visitor as there is always something for everyone to eat.

We have been to NYAJ many times before. I used to love this place mainly because the food was good and i could get Gluten-free options ( i have Celiac).

This time, the guy didn’t bring out the GF bread and we had to ask him again. The sun it did come out it was too small rolls on a small plate. I used to get gluten-free rolls in the wire basket with the olive oil dipping sauce in a separate. I told him I needed a separate bowl with separate olive oil and that I could not share with the others in my family. The waiter seemed annoyed. In fact, the waiter seemed rude, did not smile, forgot to ask us if we needed anything, and when the food came out, he didn’t ask us if we needed anything. The worst service we’ve ever had at that location. The food was not that great either. My chicken was over-cooked and tough. My daughter’s salmon was also over-cooked and my husband’s Brussels sprouts were burnt. What happened to this place?

While the meal and service at Not Your Average Joe’s was good, it was the experience by one of the guests in my party that leaves me somewhat disappointed. My guest was a young man named Joe and he noticed that the restaurant name was on the pen when he signed the credit card slip. While leaving the restaurant, Joe asked one of the waiters if he could have the pen and the waiter said that the waiters have to pay for the pens so he asked Joe for a quarter. Neither Joe nor the waiter had change so Joe ended up paying a dollar for a Not Your Average Joe’s pen! I didn’t learn of the incident until we were back in the car. After such a fine meal, I was stunned by the petty requirement by the waiter. Joe could have just taken the pen and not said anything, but, by being an ‘honest Joe’, he was treated poorly. BTW, Joe’s wife was unaware of the incident and also asked at the hostess station for a pen which the hostess gave to her freely. So, I am not sure if your policy is to charge for a pen or if you just had a disgruntled waiter. Either way, before I recommend NYAJ’s, I will be relaying the story of the of 25 cent charge for a pen!

We sat outside, service was OK. Had to continue to ask for water, silverware, plates. Two of us ordered the wedge salad with steak. Steak was very rough. Neither one of us ate it, took it home for my dogs. Usually we are happy with service and food, but a Friday was not good.

So I did with place with a party of 12. We were sat rather quickly outside which was set up nicely the waiter got our drinks quickly and started off pretty good. Understanding we had a large party it took abit to get all the food, but we came to notice 1 person didn’t get their food due to the server having dropped it. He did make us aware and a new one was on the way, but by the time everyone else was finished eating it still never showed. We complained to the server finding out they had forgotten about it and didn’t even make a new one. Manager finally came out and delivered a new one while giving us some certificates and taking it off the bill. While I understand servers get backed up I was disappointed in how they handled the situation and took us to fully complain in order to get a salad. Other than that it’s was a nice restaurant, food was good and nice place to go. Just next time the server should’ve asked for help or have 2 people assigned for a large party like mine.

We had about 10 friends join us for dinner to celebrate my 65th birthday. The reception crew were friendly and offered to take the cake we had brought with us to a refrigerator. There was a small wait for our table however it was not due to anything the staff had done. Drinks were brought to our table quickly and while we’re ordering the waitress took her time with each of us to explain anything we had questions about. Valeria was just wonderful and delightful. The food was delicious. I had the salmon which was succulent and perfectly done. This was our fourth time at the restaurant and they made my birthday just wonderful! We will be back!

I've always had a good experience at Not Your Average Joe's. The food is great with a lot of variety, especially for special dietary needs, the service is excellent and the location is very convenient to meeting friends and colleagues. A manager is frequently circulating, asking if everything is going well with our dining experience.

Mother's day at 6 pm reservations so they were busy, but we walked in and our table was ready. Rarely happens in the DC area so things started off very well. Food and service were both excellent. Love the new menu items with the lower calorie counts. It is nice to have a restaurant with quality food in a family friendly atmosphere.

The restaurant used to offer the best New England clam chowder available, but the recipe now has been "gooped " up" with heavy instead of light cream, and it has lost a lot of taste. My manhattan and my wife's drink were only about 50% strength, and my scallop dish included a tasteless salad-like accompaniment. My wife's spaghetti squash dish was also tasteless. Service was good, but the ambient noise level was intolerable. Not going back.

It was Mothers Day so a very busy day in any restaurant. The food was very good, but took a long time. The service was barely mediocre. Normally Joe's is much better than this. Chalk it up to being short staffed on a busy holiday.

I really like NYAJ. I’ve been several times and usually have a delicious meal. This last time I had the chicken pesto and I will not have it again. The grilled chicken was over cooked, dried out, and difficult to cut and chew. My husband had the chicken shrimp bowl and he enjoyed it much. We also had the raspberry goat cheese salad which was so good.
I recommend NYAJ, just stay away from the grilled chicken.
