From humble beginnings in 2011, Noir has slowly developed a reputation for uncompromising quality and grown to include a beautiful bar and dining room upstairs, ideal for corporate and private functions.
Our kitchen led by chef patron, Peter Roddy, offers playful takes on regional French food, where exceptional produce takes center stage. A seasonal menu of outstanding Australian ingredients are sympathetically handled to create visually striking dishes of terrific flavour.

Great food, great service, and a wine list to die for
Excellent service and food was beautiful despite smallish portions
Food is always delicious and the wine pairing was very good. Highly recommended and always love the tasting menu.
Very well looked after. Food and atmosphere were great. Too hard to pick a favourite dish. Loved it all. Can't wait to return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our ladies lunch. Delicious food and excellent service.
A family get together with our grown sons on a Sunday lunch was a great idea to celebrate my husband’s birthday. This is the third time we have been to noir and have always had great food, we had the Sunday roast , great value for money. On another occasion we have had the degustation which was delicious and good value. My only suggestion would be to change the degustation menu as we would like to have variety and it would seem it’s not been changed for two months , maybe it’s a seasonal option
Amazing meal for our anniversary. We had the tasting menu with matching wine. Even though I have a fish and seafood allergy this wasn’t a problem. Each course was delicious and the wines were matched well
The food was a disappointment after our last experience when it was more fine dining which it is not now
Food and service was lovely. The ambience is nice but it is a bit too hot inside on a warm day. Perfect restaurant for cooler days.
Food was very standard, didn't suprise us! Booked for our anniversary, was recommended by friend, but was a bit disappointed! Services was good
Very pleasant staff, delicious food. Overall a really good experience.
Highly Recommended! Delicious food with some interesting twists and every course was enjoyable. The duck with smoked cinnamon and the rosemary Panisse with Compte custard and mushrooms were standouts. Top billing however, goes to the raspberry and white chocolate souffle- creamy, brimming and hot from the oven- an absolute knockout and easily the best souffle I have ever had.
The service was excellent and the chefs clearly know their stuff!
Excellent.
Fabulous noir, I love the menu, service and a wine list. Highly recommended.
Main disappointment was menu on open table is old and lot of food that is on it is no longer available.
But other than that food was excellent.
Great food and service! Was recommended and will go again for sure!
excellent as always. The tasting menu and the 2hr bottomless house wine selection is my choice. This time we had an extra cheese course as well. There was a potential discrepancy with one of the courses so I was accommodated with another choice from the a la carte menu as was a friend who preferred the souffle. All good, service and helpfulness exemplary.
A lovely restaurant that serves amazing food and awesome beverages. Staff are super friendly!
From a first date 8 years ago to now, thus restaurant has maintained a high standard of great quality food, service and value. The duck is my favourite however all other options are fantastic too. We keep returning because it us hard to beat on all fronts.
Excellent French food and attentive service. Try the duck.
The best service we’ve had in Melbourne. Great French food, especially the duck! Crispy skin on the leg and perfectly cooked duck meat.
I’ve looked at dining here for a while, as recommended by friends, so it wasn’t a disappointment at all when I dined there for the first time, with my clients.
Thank you
Perfect place to catch up with friends and talk. We selected the menu of the day - tasty and light. I appreciated the quiet, the understated elegance of the decor and the friendly but unobtrusive service. It was a mild day so it was lovely to have the door open with fresh air circulating. Also full marks for sustainable cloth table napkins and baskets of freshly laundered bathroom hand towels.
Wonderful food with friendly service
So good! Chefs menu was delicious and seasonal choices. Wine list was also really good. Servers were great!
Another fabulous night of excellent food, wine, beers and ciders. Highly recommend the the prawn linguine.
Fabulous as always. First time back since lockdown ended and it was wonderful. We always have the degustation/set menu and the $30 bottomless house wines(Yarra Valley sparkling, white and a Bordeaux red)make it perfect. Staff pleasant, polite and professional.
Great service very personable and professional
Great food
Just love this place for any occasion
Amazing food and great wine list. Because we were sitting outside the noise of Swan St was a little distracting
A small refined menu which is delicious and high quality. The service is both friendly and sophisticated
Noir was a favourite haunt of ours when it opened, and we spent many pleasurable meals being looked after by Ebony and Pete. Having returned from overseas, my partner and I took the opportunity to revisit the restaurant for the first time since 2014 when we left, and it was still just as enjoyable - the service great (thanks Alice and Evan), the food still exquisite, and all in all, a great way to while away the afternoon. The fact the restaurant has survived through the recent ravages of COVID, and was still alive and kicking was initially a surprise to my wife and I, however, perhaps more a testament to the quality involved, the equal of the better known restaurants in Melbourne, whilst somehow still fitting the bill as the relaxed "local".
Cudos guys.

Noir was a pleasant dining experience for our group of diners. The mains menu is limited. Entrees had a larger selection and it may be wiser to choose two from this list to gain a more French dining experience. Wine list is extensive but very expensive. Our group of five had a main course each, one bottle of wine and two glasses of Chardonnay. $330 seemed fairly pricey. Service is excellent and ambience very pleasant and not noisy.
Garlic prawns- amazing among everything else.
New Year’s Eve dinner for 6 friends.
Absolutely loved the place! Great staff, food is one of the best French restaurants we’ve eaten at and the ambiance and location are fab! Absolutely will be back!
Outstanding all around.
Alex our waiter was brilliant. Can’t wait to return.
Excellent food and service with a level of wine knowledge from
the sommelier which truly improved our dining experience.
Well done
The best duck and crème brûlée I’ve had this side of Paris.
The service from Alexander was fantastic. We will be back.
I had such a great night at Noir! Service was excellent and food was amazing. More than happy to pay when it’s worth it!
Excellent in every way. Each course was outstanding in preparation, taste and presentation. Excellent wine list, and very attentive service.
Amazing local French restaurant. Always beautiful food & wine. Waiter was especially charming and fun. It’s our favourite local for a special night out.
Great quality modern French Australian food. The wine pairings were delicious. Nice and quiet ambiance as well.
