Altogether an enjoyable experience; the amuse bouches and sweet treats were excellent, but the beef was slightly dry and a little tough. A nibble of my friend’s omelette was most rewarding!
The downside was a very noisy table next door - extremely intrusive - I wonder if the acoustics might be improved to a more compatible dining experience?

this is my 3rd visit. Small menu selection but all good and not very noisy - a big plus when you want to chat and enjoy good food.

We were greet favourably by a member of staff. We then were offered a choice of tables and selected one to our satisfaction. The menus were presented. It was a Sunday lunch, luckily (for us) the restaurant was not full. We could hear our conversation quite clearly, and had a view of the street activities. Our entree selection made, whilst enjoying a dry vermouth, were the oysters with champagne granita. A new experience for us, the granita that is. They were excellent, deliciously fresh and the granita prolonged the taste experience. Meanwhile we had ordered a bottle of Pinot Gris which, when sipped, assisted with glorious effect. For main course we chose the rocking. This was presented with great care, in addition we had a basket of pommes frites and a green leaf salad which had been doused in an imaginatively concocted dressing and confetti like Parmesan. The service was attentive at all times during the meal. For dessert we shared a portion of date, ginger and toffee pud. The coffee served was correctly heated (not boiled to death). The bill reflected our various purchases, and this we gladly paid. We were bid farewell and surprisingly left to open the door ourselves! Is this a French behavioural trait, or did we expect too much?

Have dined at Noir several times and NEVER been disappointed! This time we dined with foodie friends who’d not been there. As always superb and delicately prepared food with each course delicious for all four of us. Friends will be beating a path to Noir’s door again soon! For me. A lovely birthday dinner!
Everything was spot on. Reasonably priced tasting menu, gorgeous food and great service. I can't believe I haven't been before. One of the best overall dining experiences I've had in recent memory. I'm a 30yr hospitality veteran so this praise doesn't come lightly. Its a very good restaurant.

Noir has been a favourite of ours since it opened. After Hermon & Hermon VIP events we would always bring our guests here afterwards for dinner and they were always impressed with the evening.

Been there last night for my boyfriend's bday. Quite disappointing experience given all rave reviews. We had a 6-8pm slot and while I do understand that tables must be cleared for other reservations at 8pm, this was done in a really rude and unprofessional manner. At 7.15pm sharp, 45min until the end of our reservation, we have politely asked to have a moment to decide on what to choose for a dessert which allowed plenty of time given that they were very quick with all other courses we had. The waiter rudely told us that we better hurry up and decide on the spot as there's someone else coming at 8 (?!). The waiter kept rushing us for the remainder of dessert and with the bill, and we were finally rushed out of the restaurant at 7.45pm although people who were supposed to come at 8 haven't even come yet! Overall, the food was ok and their menu was quite creative which initially made me pick this place, however portions are way too small even for French restaurant standards. I had a very nice fish pie and spanner crab tortellini, but my boyfriends pork cheeks were totally unseasoned. Don't bother to order a steak tartare unless you have a microscope to find the pieces of meat on their plate, plus the seasoning and condiments were very average compared to what we had in other French restaurants in Melbourne.

Generally food portions were generous, nicely presented and flavours were great, fish was a bit overcooked (dry) and fries weren't hot when served.
Food was great, but the noise spoiled the experience.
There was a table of 15-20 people behind us and we could not hear ourselves speak.
Atmosphere was more Pub like than restaurant like which is really unfortunate.

Noir is my favourite restaurant in Melbourne, and it even beats the restaurants we ate at in France.
Fabulous food and great service.
For an Irish chef, this man puts many French chefs to shame! The duck was perfect and his steak tatare was subtle, smooth and beautifully cooked (haha no, it was raw of course!). The only departure from the 'usual' was absence of condiments like Tabasco. The lettuce salad and the brussel sprouts were brilliant, so good we took home what we couldn't finish - a Chinese tradition comes to France!
Sadly they ran out of wine from Cahors, a favourite place of ours, but the red from the Loire was very pleasant and the wine list in general had good coverage.
I missed the Tarte Tatin which I thought they had, but by the time dessert came around, we were full, although I did indulge in a coffee with Calvados - sheer luxury.
Overall, we were well looked after, though slow to begin with. Staff were attentive, informed and polite. Décor was functional but comfortable and the noise level was fine - we didn't have to yell to be heard. This was our 2nd time, but by far not our last.
Only disappointment was we didn't get to sing the Marseillaise, given it was Bastille Day!
We had the tasting menu. The food was beautifully presented and being able to taste so many wonderful flavours was a perfect way to explore the food. We will definitely be back and bring our friends.
We were a large group and arrived a little early for our 8 pm booking. The table was not ready and we didn’t feel particularly welcome. After we returned 15 mins later, we were seated and enjoyed a delicious meal. We can recommend the chicken liver profiteroles to start, both the pork and steak as mains, and the soufflé was melt in your mouth. Would recommend.
We had the shared menu which was absolutely amazing. Great ambience and service as well. Highly recommended
Food was good however a friend’s medium rare Steak was over cooked. To their credit it was taken back and a new one prepared. Other food was very good. I like the fact that it is BYO Wine and a fair price isn’t charged for corkage. Will be back.
Food was delicious and well proportioned. The ambiance was cozy but not claustrophobic. A good wine selection but I would have like to have seen a greater variety of French craft or micro brewery beers on the menu. Thanks for the great evening, will definitely be back again.

Beautiful food and service. We really enjoyed the 3 course lunch.
Smaller than I thought but that’s not a bad thing. Manager wore a deadpan expression all night without the hint of a smile. The entree of beef tartare included some bizarre ingredients such as spiced pear but a poor choice of cut which was rump cap, very sinuous. Returned the main which was “crispy” pork belly and jowl. Most of the belly was not crispy a over cooked and tough, the jowl was forgettable. The bread and butter was nice and thankfully so otherwise we would have starved. The manager tried to remove the last piece of bread without even speaking. Very poor dining experience.
Brilliant food and friendly waitstaff. The apple and causing soufflé with muscat ice cream was stunning and all else was excellent.
