Nobu started as a business partnership in 1994 between chef Nobu Matsuhisa, his partners actor Robert De Niro, producer Meir Teper and managing partner Richie Notar. With the original restaurant in New York, the Nobu brand is now currently established in many locations around the world including London, Tokyo, Las Vegas, Milan, Hong Kong and Waikiki.
Nobu restaurants continue with unprecedented praise and rave reviews from such notable publications as the New York Times, the Zagat Surveys, and the Michelin Guide. The restaurants’ perennial popularity and devoted following are a tribute to Nobu putting his own personal spin on traditional Japanese cooking.
I was very surprised by how disgusting the food was as nobu has such an international reputation. The food was really bad and it definitely was not worth the many pennies I paid for it. While the staff was pleasant enough and did remove one of the items from my bill, I would not personally recommend someone going there.
First time at Nobu and loved it. You get what you pay for and it was fresh and the sauces were amazing. Fantastic service and great location.
Food was amazing, top class and elegant - it got a little bit noisy at certain times and it was rather cold where we were sitting so had to keep my jacket on during dinner which isn't ideal
The food was great as it usually is. We had returned for the amazing cocktails too, but was so disappointed when we were asked for ID we didn’t bring as we were both 30 and had not used it in the past 10 years! It was more frustrating that we were asked to show ours, and yet the apparently teenage looking girls next to us were not. It seemed we were the only ones around us that had been asked. This ruined our experience here and it’s unlikely we will come back again.
Always happy with the service and the phenomenal food
Always love going to Nobu and the bar afterwards is always great for a night cap
Great unique food, beautiful presentation great taste
Was nice food for my wife's birthday. The waiter didn't just take our order blindly as he mentioned that we might have ordered too much hence he will wait a bit to see how we go with the existing portion then come back to us later. That was a nice pleasant gesture as we hate wasting food. He was the older Asian gentleman with glasses. Just missed his name.
I live in a remote part of Australia and when I come to Melbourne I like to try Nobu. I’ve been a few times now and I think it’s overrated and really expensive for what you get compared to other fine dining restaurants. The service was great and the food was good but not amazing. I tired the signature spicy tuna, it was good but wasn’t spicy. My husband really liked his wagu tacos but they were tiny for the price. We left hungry and our bill was nearly $300 for 2 people. I think it’s a bit rude.
Food was amazing and service even better. Would recommend!
Food was great as always
Expected better from a restaurant with Nobu's reputation. Especially, very disappointed with the service. It's well below international standards.
Due to my accent, I have been asked questions like: Are you a visitor? No, I live here. Will you be staying? In fine dining restaurants, I expect waiters to focus on the perfection of their service rather than asking such questions to clients.
Our sushi and sashimi order came out incorrectly.
No one was there to fill empty water glasses.
After being greeted by a surly head of house and shown to our table which was a sticky table on the lower level set amongst large group bookings we finally met our waiter. Unfortunately our waiter didn’t assist with menu ideas so we settled for the 6 course degustation. Drink orders did not arrive until half way of first course Food was fresh and tasty but lacked finesse and the final meat course was over cooked and should have had a side. Disappointed.
By far the best place to eat in Melbourne. Everything on the night was outstanding and has been for over 10 years that I have been going every time I am in Melbourne. From the welcoming happy and smiling face at the main reception desk to the bar staff to the servers all night, FIRST CLASS across the board. Now the food, WOW!!! Have been to NOBU over 20 times and it never ceases to amaze me and my guests.
The waiter was great help, the food was amazing would definitely come back and would recommend worth a try!
Such an amazing experience! We did the Nobu Signature Omakase - just incredible! The service was impeccable, couldn't recommend this place more for a fine dining experience.
Always the best
Fabulous place to eat, food was amazing
Amazing food and great service
Ive been to 4 other Nobus worldwide. This was my least favorite. We were sat downstairs where the ambiance was nothing special. Thw tables were sticky. We had the chefs 8 course menu and the food came out too quickly. We ordered a cocktail and wine and everything came out the same time. It felt very rushed. The food was good, not great and one dish with cold noodles and somesort of prawn was uneatable. The dessert was really basic aswell. The restaurant was so loud that i could barely hear
It was incredible!
An overall great experience from the moment we walked in. The food was excellent and we didn’t have to wait long for it to come out even when the restaurant started to get busy. Will definitely be going back
Delicious food and service. Did not wait long for the food to come out, everything was nice and fresh!
Service level was lousy. Waitresses are not knowledgeable on wine and food
Sorry we wanted to love it! Not the vibe I was expecting for a premium restaurant, the food wasn't bad but it also wasn't great for the price!
Consistently excellent food and amazing service
It was a special Birthday & when I went to the toilet and came back - they had served dessert with the candle & not bothered to wait to see where I was and serve when I was there... was very poor service for what is supposed to be a high-end restaurant.
We have been to Nobu several times now and yes the prices are high but the quality of food is amazing. I could not compare it to anything. Wine selection is good and the deserts out of this world.
The service is attentive but not a nuisance. The noise level is a little high but that could be just us being old.
We dined at Nobu for a special occasion, foolishly expecting a similar quality and exceptional dining experience of that when we dined at Itoh Dining in Kyoto. It wasn’t a special dining room feel, we had the signature menu expecting to be surprised and delighted... and we weren’t!
Remembering the moments gave way to “yes but our local modern Japanese in our country town has given us better mouth moments”, which was pretty sad! We enjoyed our night celebrating but decided we wouldn’t return!
My daughter was visiting Australia from London
Nobu Perth is my most frequented restaurant & Melbourne Nobu was not even on the same level.
Food was average. Seafood was not fresh. Biggest disappointment was the Abalone. Paid $60 for a dish that was mostly mushrooms & when you finally found an abalone it was overcooked tough & unenjoyable. Lacked any flavour - I ended up soaking in soy sauce.
The atmosphere not great, like being in a basement with other tables on top of each other. To end, bill was just thrown on the table.
Have been coming 1-2 times a year since Nobu opened in Melbourne.
The decor, furniture, bathrooms are all outdated, time to refresh. Nobu is no longer unique in its food and beverage offering, competition is on-par to better than what Nobu offers. The menu is also old. I know you keep the best selling and customer faves.
Just as I remembered it to be from 2010.
Love the energy in the restaurant and yet you can have an intimate dinner without much distractions.
Food is as good as I remember, just get the regular Nobu Omakase set is just enough to keep you satisfied. Pair with either their amazing selection of sake or white wine, both of which I feel goes better with Japanese food.
Food quality was excellent
But as a quiet dinner definitely not the place to go
More like busy Bourke Street ambience
Tables are too close to one another such that you could hear he conversation on the next table
We thoroughly enjoyed our Nobu experience. Food was exceptional, as was the service and knowledge of the food.
Amazing food every time!
Atmosphere fantastic , Food amazing , Service also very good
Great food and service
Fantastic evening. Couldn't fault food or service.
Great atmosphere and service, food is ok but definitely not worth the price, portion sizes are a joke for the beef tacos
