Food was quite good. Ambience was relaxed and the service was very good. The risotto starter was excellent with a lovely mixture of herbs.

Excellent meal, the staff were superb and very professional. I would definitely recommend No.8 to anyone visiting York.

Good food and service let down by the ambiance. When we arrived we found the area a little off-putting. Once inside we didn't feel comfortable - the floor didn't seem really clean, there were crumbs on the floor and on the bench where I was sitting. Some maintenance was obviously needed with the flooring inside the front door. Before we left we saw there was a back room and a garden and our experience might possibly have been different had we been seated here. As it was, we didn't feel the ambiance was right for the long, leisurely dinner that we usually enjoy. Having said that, the hake dish was very good. It would not take much to improve the front area - new flooring, light blinds on the windows and possibly some form of soft lighting or lamps.

Bistro no8 is a wonderful Restaurant that serves top quality dishes. It's worthwhile the visit! One of the best in York!

A nice, and unusual little restaurant, with good service. The food was good but not great. Considering the OK level of the food, and the décor (basic café with nothing extra spent to make it a restaurant), the meal was very expensive and a bit of a disappointment.

The food was excellent the staff were exceptional. The atmosphere was fantastic. All in all a great experience. Would go back in a heartbeat if we were ever in york again.

First time eating here which was for my partner's birthday. Had three courses each for £27 each and every course had a lot of great options making it hard to choose and every dish we had was amazing, coupled with great service and a really nice atmosphere, this was a great find and made for a really amazing meal.

Fantastic couldn't fault it. The chef catered for a gluten, dairy and sugar free diet without any fuss and it was perfect. Will go back on our next visit to York. Well done no 8.
