The food was excellent, the price for the entree's were ok. The bar had a selection of New York bourbons, I would have preferred more variety but this is a place for New York sourced items.
Another local CDGA hit or miss dining experience. I hadn't had dinner here for a while, but a recent family brunch that was delicious tempted me. This review is for the dinner, which was decent, but not a rave.
Husband had the best dish: giant meatballs with penne. The sauce was tangy, meatballs were not too dense given their size, only complaint was the penne - not al dente enough. For under $20, a good dish.
I had the steak frites with glazed brussel sprouts. I love this dish in general, but woe to the chef who serves me "just" a plate of steak and a side of fries at a $30 price tag. Unfortunately, that's what I got.
The steak was lovely - I ordered medium well, after a debacle at another restaurant recently where my request for medium resulted in a drippy rare steak; I wish last night I'd have ordered the medium, I believe they'd have nailed it.
The presentation though...the fries looked (and tasted) dry and bland, even though these are a central aspect of the dish. The aoili sauce was too thick, not creamy so much as goopy, and used more for contrasting color than to assist the flavors.
The brussel sprouts were a huge disappointment. What a great combination, especially the addition of some green to the dish. But there were only about 10 halves that again seemed more like color than a flavor and texture compliment. Especially not texture - they were too soft, as if they'd been sauted up from frozen. I hoped for a nice crisp glazed exterior with a little crunch left inside. And again, for $30 bucks, I also expected a side-dish serving on the plate, not a sprinkling.
Wow, that's a lot of complaints over steak and fries right? Hey, if the place us gonna use the restaurant to elevate there brand as a foodie central, then yep, I expect obvious attention to the details. That's the difference between my decision to stay in CDGA for a dinner date, or drive down to Geneva and spend the same $$ at Kindred Fare. Next time I'll probably make the drive.
Having music is nice, but band played way too loud for the setting. OK in dining room but way too loud in the bar area.
The experience was very good. The food was great and prepared and presented with imagination. The wine selection was very nice as well. Service was excellent. Servers had good knowledge and treated us well, willing to suggest and recommend when asked. The waiting times for service were near perfect. The intervals between servings were good. The prices are on the high side in our opinion; however, they were not over the top for what we received overall.
Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent experience here! We are so happy that you enjoyed your visit! Our mission at NYK is to promote all things New York State, therefore a lof of our dishes are farm to table style. We do our best to serve local, authentic food for our guests. Please do return soon!
The food was not as good as we expected. Became loud when a group with 6 kids were seated next to us. Waitress took forever to come back to the table to check on us and bring bill.
We appreciate your feedback on your recent dining experience here. We apologize for not meeting your expectations for the food and service. However, this is not our norm. Although we served nearly 100 guests in our small dining room the day after Valentine's Day, we can assure you that your next visit will not be a disappointment. We hope you will reconsider joining us again soon!
We were celebrating our 51st anniversary. When I made the reservation I had indicated that. We were greeted with “Happy Anniversary!” and they took to a table with a view. Service was amazing, food was delicious, and when we were having coffee a piece of sinfully chocolate cake arrived with “Happy 51st!” in chocolate around the rim of the plate. One of the best anniversaries yet.
Thank you for writing a thoughtful review! Happy Anniversary and thank you for choosing our venue to celebrate your 51st! We are so glad you had a great time. We hope you can return soon!
Always pleased coming to NY Kitchens
Great food and great facility. Would go back especially in the summer over the lake.
Hi Kendra! Thank you for your wonderful review! We look forward to seeing you this summer!
Always a good choice especially on Friday's that have music 1st come limited room in bar but diner tables are available for reservations not far from the bar, All the waitstaff is great and super busy but take good care of you😉🙋♂️
Hi Ron! Thank you for all your thoughftul reviews! We appreciate your feedback and devotion to NYK!
Great food, ambiance, and service! A spectacular dining experience.
Hi Jeff! We truly appreciate your feedback on your recent experience here! We hope to see you again soon!
I love NYK. Food is always good, but this time the service was really bad. We had a reservation at 7pm for
New years eve. We arrive on time, they served us water and bread and then they forgot about us. 35 minutes after my husband went to talk with the hostess and just then we realized that they totally forgot our table! the waiter came immediately and apologize but still I believe that for the price you pay here, service should be exceptional.
Good food and great menu for those with dietary restrictions. Our service, however, was awful.
Just book a table!👍 great food & staff, beautiful clean location. Upstairs but has an elevator👏👏👏
A nice place for brunch -- could use more non-alcoholic and non-caffeine beverages (juices, milk,...) on the menu.
Always pleased at NY Kitchens
The meal was very good, and their homemade bread is excellent. There was only one waitperson on staff for the evening which made service slow.
We eat here regularly. Unfortunately, this meal wasn't up to their standards. It may be related to multiple events occurring downstairs, but overall, the experience was disappointing.
The mussels we ordered were sub par. So small that they almost qualified as sea monkeys. Our entrees were both luke warm and overcooked. The only thing that was tasty were the french fries. Kind of sad that the best part of our meal was the fries. For the money, I thought the meal left way too much to be desired.
This was our second visit to New York Kitchen. The food was delicious and service was great. We especially enjoyed the live music by Red Means Go. Great band.
I'm not sure why my reservation was confirmed because we got there and the restaurant was closed. Unfortunately we are not able to dine here this night
They closed due to snow and other restaurants in town open
Good place for dinner but way too slow for lunch especially when there were very few tables occupied.
In the spirit of helping NYK improve: Poor (no) signage so we didn't know where to parking in the large area on 3 sides of the building. Once out of the car, no visible entrance (it is around front, not visible from the parking area) and closest door we tried was "Emergency Exit Only." Walked all the way around the building in a cold wind. Found the door, yay! Big beautiful building, gorgeous! No one at podium in front of door. I paused, wondering where to go ... staff on far right at another podium said "Here to eat? It's upstairs!" So I hustled upstairs. Hostess had our reservation. And waved us to a table across the room without leaving the podium. There were about six empty tables in the direction of her wave. We guessed right, luckily! The table was visibly sticky. No placemats. Our waitress Amanda was super, friendly, knowledgeable, attentive! The menu has a great selection of sandwiches and some pizzas and appetizers, and truly the food was very good. Weird that no farm sources are mentioned in any item description, I wanted more of that information.
There are Campbell's Soup posters as the sole wall art in the restaurant. I get the nod to Warhol, but these were not that. Seems a weird choice in a restaurant branding itself as the headquarters of New York State farm-to-table fare.
Downstairs we wanted to explore the tasting room and classrooms. On a Friday in early November, though, nothing was going on, and it was deserted. The tasting room was a disappointment, small and mostly wine. The website describes "shopping" and "products from all over NYS." No one offered me a taste or sample of anything, although I asked questions and spent $40 on small spirits bottles and novelty cork lights.
Good service, food was OK but nothing special. Had cast iron pork few apples and onions no potatoes or vegtables? No bread or rolls or salad to begin with. On the pricy side $10 for a glass of wine? Can get whole bottle at my local liquor store! Would probably not to back.
It's difficult to satisfy my vegan wife but she was very happy with her entree. My club sandwich with delicious chips was also good.
All in all it was a pleasant meal and experience. There were a few details that could have been tweaked. My 3 brunch companions and I all ordered the quiche, but only 3 orders were left ( which was no problem for us). I ordered the wrap.
Honestly , the quiches were closer to a generous appetizer size than a full meal size. Perhaps if there was a side or two included, it would’ve been a more satisfying meal for them. Additionally, it was served on a large white dinner plate with only some apple slices and grapes which made the food look even more scarce. Perhaps include at least one side option next time? Flavor wise, my friends were very complimentary. I can say the same for the wrap I ordered, which, ironically, had a more than plentiful serving.
Our waitress was very good and prompt. However, when asked how large the apple fritters were, she described them as being just a bit larger than the quiche. Since we wanted to share an order, we immediately knew we would need to order 2 for the 4 of us to share. But when they were served, they were huge! And each one had a candle for our 2 birthday friends, which was sweet. We could have easily shared one. Certainly not a complaint - we had a laugh over it, as it kinda went along with the questionable quiche serving size.
Being able to use the app was terrific. It was a smooth and efficient process.
Excellent food, views and service!
We had a great time!
Nothing else to say. We just enjoyed the place, though the Andy Warhol giant soup cans are ugly and out of place.
We visited NY Kitchen last summer and had good food and good service. Brought our son and his girlfriend here for a birthday dinner last Saturday and unfortunately, our second visit was not as enjoyable. We were seated at a high top in the bar area - not what I requested on the reservation - but not a big deal. The lime wedge on my drink had brown spots and the sticker from the grocery store on the skin. The appetizers (calamari and buffalo cauliflower) were tasty and the portions more than enough for sharing. My son's burger was ordered medium and was closer to well done. My risotto, which I loved on our first visit, was luke warm and pasty. Food runners were coming out and taking food to the wrong table or standing around asking each other if they knew where the dishes went. We ended up being there for 2 1/2 hrs - although nice, our server was not very attentive. I do not know if there will be a third visit to this restaurant for us.
We are not regulars, but have dined here several times over the past 5 years. Our latest visit was "basically OK", but did not come close to our previous experiences.
We came back to enjoy a farm-to-table menu with culinary adventure combining seasonal choices that excited the chef and worked that day. The new reality was a standard menu and a fish-fry special.
We chose a shared appetizer and individual entrees from the standard menu. The appetizer and my entree were seriously overcooked.
We will keep watching and hoping what was so special before will come back.
The ambience and service was outstanding, even the bartender Rob brought me one if his signature cocktail personally. Amanda was a great on time, funny attentive server, waitress. Everyone has their own personal favorite foods, mine was great, my wife's was satisfactory, my son didnt touch his, but hes a picky eater anyway. Overall was a nice experience,
My girlfriend and I had been there in the summer time and it was a much enjoyable experience. We were able to sit on the balcony and overlook the lake. This time we had to sit inside which was fine, but it was very loud and we could barely understand the waitress as a result. One of our drinks was wrong and they didn't even have bread to give us with our dinner. Overall it was still a good experience, but certainly not as good as our first experience in the summer.
Never got bread with the meal (every other table did). Service was on the slower end and food did not come out hot
The food was excellent, but there was 4 of us and it took 2 plus hours for dinner seems a little long. It was also very noisy inside. I would recommend asking for a table outside when making a reservation.
Such beautiful scenery to dine over ! Loved our waitress Amanda as well!
Had high hopes for evening & it fell apart. 2couples, not a busy night
Starter was calamari & charcuterie board. Was informed no more calamari (res was at 6:30!)..so sub angry shrimp. They were awesome! But 15 mins later, they had calamari again!
Dinner. I had butchers cut pork chop with risotto and grilled peach. Pork chop was perfect, risotto was good but a bit over salted (was edible). $23 good value.
My hubby had special...chipotle spare ribs..good but looked like they had been taken from a package. Sauce was too perfect on the ribs. For $28 was expecting better.
My friend had walleye. Also good but thicker end of fish was undercooked. Did not complain since portion was huge & it was just a few inches on the end. $28, given potion size, good value.
Her hubby had lobster Mac & cheese.....INEDIBLE. Way over salted. I didn’t taste it but his wife did & when compared to my risotto (borderline on the salt) said the Mac was like eating pure salt. Sent plate back & split the other 3 plates to him. Our server did apologize.
Now in most restaurants, you send a dish back, the manager pays the table a visit. In good restaurants, the chef comes out. Nothing. My friends hubby sought out the manager after dinner to be sure she was aware of the issue & her response was “we didn’t charge you for it”…...WHAT? No apology at all. As we were sitting there finishing our wine, something must’ve clicked. Our server brought glasses of champagne & manager stopped by to apologize saying she had a rough day. She offered a gift card which we accepted. One thing she mentioned was the wait staff ate the dish we sent back & it seemed okay. DISGUSTING!
Not sure who is running this place but it is not a professional staff. There were other small issues as well. Not a cheap meal & we expected so much better. Won’t be back. Trip advisor reviews not good either. Wish I read them first.
Only for the other features of the Center, not for the restaurant. We enjoyed the wine tasting and seeing the classrooms. Food took a very very long time to arrive and was tepid when we received it. Our server was apparently overwhelmed by the number of tables he was assigned, because we observed the other servers bringing our orders in a timely fashion. Sandwiches were overpriced for the value.
We were greeted in a timely and friendly manner by our hostess, Olivia. The staff...Rob, Sean and Amanda were very welcoming as always. Amanda gave excellent table service and met all of our food requests. A very welcoming and enjoyable evening as usual. Thank you. Beth and Ed
Had the vegetable lasagna entree. One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Service and am since is always good. Have been coming to this restaurant for many years. Always first rate!
Awesome Food, great service, great ambiance. Crab lobster fondue was delicious. Walleye dinner was spiced with rosemary and chive and was delicious. Joe our waiter was on point and offered great service. Outside views of lake added to special dinner. Bourbon toffee creme brûlée topped off the evening with a constant background of great wine. Coming back soon.
Very nice, food took a long time to come out but was delicious when it arrived
