We have two of Australia's most exciting young chefs at the helm of our open kitchen. Charlie Vargas (previously Frasers, Balthazar and 1907) is supported by Vince Conjaerts (previously Fervor, De kleine zavel, L`épicerie du cirque)
We really liked our meal at New Normal and we will return. Beautiful presented shared dishes and great combination of flavours, it really was delicious. Only marked down as the confit duck leg special, price not advertised, turned out to be more expensive than the beef.
Second visit with an interval of 10 months in between. Better than I recall. Less affectation about reducing waste appreciated. Special request at reservation cheerfully accommodated. We had the Chef's tasting menu which was terrific but a communication issue meant that two of our party who were keenly awaiting the pork belly were disappointed because one of us does not eat pork so we all had duck substituted. Had we known we would have ordered the pork from the a la carte menu as well. But duck yummy. Service very attentive and friendly. Think wine list could be expanded a tad. As a Shiraz drinker not much choice.
Simple and elegant .. very stylish and service was fantastic .. we accidentally forgot to mention that one of our table was pregnant and couldn’t enjoy the beef unless it was cooked well done.. they graciously cooked another serving for her which was very kind and much appreciated ..

Firstly, LOVE the concept, All WA sourced, minimal waste.
Proving you can make delicious flavourful food without massive waste, a leaf each restaurant should put into their book.
The waitress was able to recommend a wine which matched with our food. I am not good with words but if you haven't been and are reading this. Get your butt there, everything from bread to dessert. Tasty, tasty, tasty!!

Amazing service and food, special attention to my dietary requirements with min fuss. Bonus points for complimentary canapé and their amazing sourdough. 15/10! Highly recommend for intimate dinner, tinder dates and groups!
The noise in the restraunt was so overwhelming with music blaring and restraunt bursting at the seams, i felt like i was in a nightclub and a chicken barn all in one. it was the worst experience i have ever had in my entire life, ans I have dined in many.
i will never return, and I hope the owners are reading this. because they need to address the accustics and the style of music and volume.
Unfortunately i was dining with friends, hence i could not just get up and leave.
Further more, the menu went on to be explained to us, as if we were with our maths teacher. too complicated!

Friday lunch with a friend was a delight. It had been some time since I have been here, and I made a resolution to come more often.
The staff were friendly and welcoming; the menu perfect for lunch, but I would have some problems with the limitations for an evening meal.
It is charming to able to be aware and almost a part of the kitchen brigade. Their enthusiasm noticeable.
The best restaurant I’ve eaten at for a long long time
We had booked dinner for our 28th wedding anniversary, I requested a table for just the 2 of this time as we wanted to have an intimate and private dinner this time round. We were seated against the wall which was great. Nothing new about the food, it was astounding as usual. This place never disappoint. Waiter's Sophia & Dimitri looked after us superbly taking our cocktail & food orders, while at the Bar Darryl mixed a perfectly balanced G & T, and Small man syndrome (I just had to try a drink called this) as we as taking us on a wonderful journey through our amazing wine regions here in WA to pair the perfect wine for our meal. He was awesome! Head chef Vince supplied us with wonderful food, such as eye fillet, broccolini, and scallop potatoes . While we were waiting for desert we were presented with a delightful pre-desert of ice cream, rubarb and chocolate. Such a thoughtful touch and made our night. Love this place and their staff and will keep coming back. Thanks guys for a wonderful and memorable night.

Felt the menu and the best way to order could have been explained more fully.
We went with great expectations given that New Normal came which such rave reviews. The ambiance was lovely. The value was poor from the very start. An offer to have some bread and olives was fine, until you realise that the bread is charged $3 pp and olives were separate at $7 for a tiny serve. The rankin cod, stingy in size for $44 and we had to question the staff with regards to its freshness and texture. Rather than firm but flaky as it should be, it left a bad taste being a tad fishy, chewy and tough. The broccoli and squid were also very average although the potatoes and beetroot were to our standards. I don't think we will be back. We went next door for dessert.
Absolutely love this place - the chef's are fabulous, we enjoy sitting at the bar and interacting with them while they cook. Innovative menu, creative food.
New normal is a beautiful place to dine if you want to be looked after by an experienced and inviting team. The chef's feed us for the nights with an array of delicious fresh produce paired nicely with wines chosen by our section waiter, Darryl. I would highly recommend for a nice night out, with a medium to high price point. Very much worth it! Thanks crew ;)

Our meals were delicious, beautifully cooked and each plated dish presented like a work of art. We chose Chefs tasting menu and enjoyed a range of vegetable dishes, two fish dishes - cuttlefish, and Cod - a beef dish then three desserts; all served as share plates.
Love the food philosophy using locally sourced seasonal ingredients, as well as natural and sustainable materials - cloth napkins, handmade ceramic dishes - for example.
We'll be dining there again soon I hope, and perhaps starting with a drink on the upstairs terrace.

Our evening at New Normal, was wonderful. The service was fantastic despite the majority of the restaurant being used for a large group booking.
I appreciated the phone call to warn us of the large booking on the night we had our reservation. We were given the option to reschedule, but as it was a birthday celebration, we declined. Nevertheless we were made to feel special and given lots of attention sitting at the bar watching the workings of the kitchen.
The food was sensational and the concept of reducing waste and encouraging sustainability really work in making it an experience not just another meal out.
We enjoyed the food and the wine, but the servings were too small. We spent $150 and left hungry and hade to make dinner at home. We couldnt fault the ambience or service, but the meals are just too small - when you are sharing dishes you end up with a mouthful per person - and there was only enough chips to have one each at the table of 7. More generosity and we would definitely be back

The dishes of seasonal and local produces is outstanding.
The table we received was terrible. After several requests they were unwilling to place us elsewhere. The booth/seating was right in front of the kitchen entrance, was noisy and really uncomfortable. It made for a really unpleasant experience. A simple request denied shows how unwilling they were to satisfy the diners needs. Poor client service.

I love the option where you can pay per head and let the chefs make you a variety of share plates and they will keep coming out until you’re full! Includes 3 amazing desserts as well. We must of had 15 plates of amazing creations plus 3 desserts! Everyone including the chefs were incredible! Oh and the wine list? That was outstanding too! For what we got, value was outstanding!

There were many customers hence the service was a little slow and the table beside us, who came later had their food first.
Fabulous restaurant. Enjoyed chatting to the owner (who was our waiter) about how he is supporting local suppliers, reducing waste and providing a great experience for customers. Cocktails at the roof top bar pre-dinner added to the whole experience. We sat at the high table facing the kitchen so were able to be served by the chefs and chat to the them too.
Wonderful food and service
The menu is not very extensive but every item on it has been carefully chosen and is cooked and presented perfectly. Our wait staff were very friendly & knowledgeable and encouraged us to taste the wine before choosing. We were too full to order dessert this time so will have to go back soon to test that part of the menu! Overall a great night out.
Place is great for a date for two, wouldn’t recommend sharing plates for a larger group. Would have been nice to have a few plates at a time. Wasn’t really suitable sharing the asparagus plate (first plate to come out by itself) between four people - would have been nice if it came out with a few other plates at the same time. Overall nice experience.
The food is delicious!! The ambience is a bit loud for conversation or larger groups. Service very friendly and informative. Lovely vibe.
