New Chapter Ratings and Reviews
Amazing service, incredible food and at such an affordable price for the lunch menu you really can't go wrong. The reputation of New Chapter is well deserved - the ambiance was wonderful despite a busy lunch time service - chilled, clean and comfortable but with enough modern fixtures and fittings about the place to really keep it up to date. This was a pleasantly unexpected fine dining experience!
I will absolutely be recommending this place to anyone and everyone...I have already made a list of people to drag along with me - specifically to try the unbelievable smoked ricotta starter. My friend and I were both blown away by the intense, beautiful flavour and it left us guessing just how it was done.
It is wonderful to have something so refined on your doorstep and so exciting to find somewhere that sells delicious, fresh and STUNNINGLY well presented food at an incredibly reasonable price.
The food was superb very tasty and one of the best meals we have had out dining in a couple of years, we would definitely recommend this place, it is so worth a try. Really appreciate all the hard work they have put in to make it a little bit special from the rest. Thank you.
Another return visit to have lunch with grandson home from university. New Chapter does not fail to impress - the menu is one where one of everything would be ideal! However, the choices we made turned out to be excellent - beautifully cooked and creatively presented. Service was first class - efficient and friendly. Amazing value for such an individual expereince.
Already looking forward to the next visit.
Disappointing return visit. Lunchtime service was not a par on the dinner we had here last September. We were running 10 mins late with elderly parents in tow. When we arrived we were shown to a table which was very close to the restaurant door, not really suitable for 80+ parents who feel the cold. A little initiative here would have helped. Also nobody offered to take our coats so we sat with bulky winter coats on the backs of our chairs. There seemed to be plenty of staff but little co-ordination. Starters of salmon, smoked ricotta, and soup were tasty but the salmon starter was tiny with three miniscule portions of smoked salmon. Mains beef cheeks were delicious but the chicken special really didn't work - a take on duck leg confit in a breadcrumb case with black pudding and jus sauce. Side of beans and hazlenuts arrived halfway through our mains. Puddings were delicious and a nice touch was added by piping Happy Birthday in chocolate to decorate my mother-in-laws sweet. All in all very disappointing compared to our previous visit.
A really delicious meal which was good value for money. Busy (Maundy Thursday) lunchtime with jovial atmosphere, although looks like would normally be quite quiet. Service was impeccable. No kids menu and perhaps a bit formal for children, but actually the service was very sweet with them - colouring in crayons etc and nothing was too much trouble.
Would definitely go back for work meeting, night out, treat lunch, although perhaps not with kids - not because they were made to feel remotely unwelcome, but I wonder whether other diners might presume it's not a kids place. Lack of kids menu was a bit of an issue, but we had a really lovely time. Attention to detail across the board was excellent.
From the moment we walked in, we were immediatley welcomed, choice of water offered, and then food and wine menu produced. Our choice of food produced an excellent meal, accompanied by a most pleasant wine. We will be very happy to return there at some future date (this is out fourth visit to New Chapter for an early evenkng meal).
We decided to try this restaurant after finding out about it on Trip Advisor. We had a lovely meal with my parents, the dishes were presented beautifully, my lamb was cooked perfect and the Ox cheek looked so good and just fell apart!. Perhaps the only minor disappointment was the cheesecake dessert being a bit on the small side for the price. We will be returning again though!.
The food was lovely but a bit expensive for the type of restaurant it was, it was well presented and imaginative. Service was good and staff were informative about the food.
Wine list was OK, although a bit on the expensive side.
The decor lacked imagination. We were sitting in a little alcove opposite the entrance. Fine for the people sitting with their backs against the wall, but for the people on the other side they just had a blank wall to look at. A picture or mirror or a painting on the wall would have made it a bit more interesting. Also at either corner there were what looked like wall mounted angle poised lamps that kept lighting up quite brightly, we all thought that it was to tell staff that a plate was ready as after a while they would go off again. Whatever the reason it was quite distracting.
I ate here with my fiancee during a holiday in Edinburgh to celebrate her birthday. The staff were fantastic, we felt comfortable instantly. I had given the restaurant late notice that my fiancee is lactose intolerant, however, they still had some fantastic dairy free options for her and the meals were fantastic. Would definitely return.
