Our meal was disappointing! The soup came missing key ingredients. The Kale Salad and an entry were just not good. This judgement is both against an absolute standard, but also based on comparisons with what we have previously experienced at this restaurant. We have had excellent dishes here before and this night they were just not up to par. The manager came to our table and was most gracious in adjusting our bill. I would hope this experience is the exception and does not become the norm. As I said, we have had excellent meals at this restaurant in the past.
Thanks Richard. What we hope is that you are a patient customer who also realizes that like you we can make mistakes and that we are always striving to do our best. There are no absolutes in restaurant as in life. The best part of your review is that you said something when you were here and we responded when you were here. And hopefully you left somewhat satisfied with our ability to recover your experience. Let us know if you happen our way again. Brian
this is a very comfortable environment and the service was quite good. But the food for all 3 of us was average at best. Nothing wrong with average but not better than average for sure.
Appreciate the time you took to review us. Thanks, Brian
Many of us had heir smoked tomato soup which was very good. Those who had Branzino also fel it was very good. My sonmhad the catch of the day which was dry. The bread pudding was very good.
Hi Alan, The smoked tomato soup will be on the new fall menu paired with a grilled cheese so stay tuned for that one. Appreciate the nice review! Thanks, Brian
served tater tots when i expected french fries. tots were terrible.
service- very slow.
Hi Mitchell, Hope you let the server or manager know that you would have preferred fries. That's an easy fix for us. You could have had both or even the sweet potato fries which are also available. Thanks for trying us. Brian
Very pleasant service and oh, what delicious french fries come with their burgers.
We appreciate your nice review and the fries! Brian
Upbeat, fun atmosphere ....food is delicious, setting is quite attractive, but most important to me is that the service is friendly and very attentive. Everybody smiles. All in all a delightful experiece.
Thank you Rhebe!!! Always enjoy having you here!!! Brian
The kale salad was very good however the fish of the day was dry and over spiced, same goes to the Israeli couscous, expected more for the price
Sorry that you didn't enjoy the fish. Hope you let someone here know so we had the opportunity to fix the issue or take care of the dish. Thanks, Brian
Alway interesting, good food. Very pleasant, nice service.
Appreciate your kind words! Thanks so much! Brian
Nice place. We were there with friends for a pre-theater dinner. Very good food. Wait staff was very attentive. We’ll be back.
Was disappointed that the lunch menu was not available on Saturday, instead only the brunch menu. No notice which would have been easy for NVG to do when confirming the reservation
Hi Janet, Our brunch menu has many lunch and brunch menus and is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am til 3 pm. The menus are also available on line for folks who have never been here. We have been offering brunch for several years so it feels like something that is known about us. Hopefully you found a lunch item from the 3 sandwiches or the 5 salads that you could enjoy. Thanks so much! Brian
First the server poured water over my purse and on the table. Did not appreciate that.
The food was not very good. I had a Caesar salad with salmon. the croutons were not crunchy, the salad itself was not very good...as I left half of it on the plate, did not even want to take it home. The server suggested the strawberry shortbread, which came with a pot de creme...well the creme was all there was...a couple of crumbs, and a strawberry cut in half...I told the server that I did not like it, and he was kind enough to take it off the bill.I will not hurry back...
Hi, It was actually the manager(me) that dropped water mistakenly on the chair where your purse was. As you remember I apologized and we saw that nothing was damaged as not a lot of water went in, thank goodness. Next you know that I paired wines for you and one of your tablemates, offering you a few choices to taste as a gesture of good will. And yes the dish is a pot du creme. You had the menus that I dropped for you. Not sure how that got turned around. Thanks, Brian
We were excited to go there - but the food turned out to be pretty mediocre and highly overpriced. They also charged us $22 for a simple Margarita, which seems like a rip off. You can get better food for a fraction of the price in this area.
Hi Max, Not sure about your margarita. Ours are $14 at the most unless one really embellishes with gran marnier and the highest end tequlia. We didn't rip you off. Our pricing is in line with every restaurant around us. What's more, we have the best Happy Hour in Westwood. There are many drink specials available there for folks looking to pay a little less than the standard LA cocktail pricing. I go out with my wife and seek out just such places. Thanks for trying us out though! Brian
Just average. Nothing to write home about.
Thanks for giving us a try! Brian
Great overall dining experience, if a bit pricey.
Thanks so much. See you again soon! Brian
One of the best lunches I've had in a while. The roasted squash salad and the cheeseburger, split between two of us, were the perfect bites of yumminess! The butterscotch breadpudding was just the right amount of sweet that makes you keep dipping your fork into it while promising yourself that is the absolutely last bite you're going to take...and then.... Thank you NVG for the wonderful service as well!
Thank you very much. Thanks for the kind words!!!! Glad you had a great time!! Brian
I used to always look forward to eat at this restaurant. However, this time I was extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. It appears there is a change in management, service and chefs. Tables outside were left dirty. The daily soup was terrible and had nothing to do with french onion soup. Salads were very mediocre. Had to wait for the waiter for so long to place the dessert order and pay to go back to work. The menu selections were not good either.
Hello Uno, So sorry that you didn't enjoy yourself yesterday. I think I remember speaking with you and had no idea that things weren't going well. Please reach out to me directly at the restaurant so that we can attempt to recover this last episode and make it more what you would expect from us. Thanks, Brian Cousins, GM
Bronzino was well prepared with good taste. However the onion soup was ok but could be because I wanted minimum cheese, which they did. Bread pudding was good. Service & ambience us very good
Glad you enjoyed the food. Appreciate the nice stars!! Brian
The food was fine but the service was sub par. The waiter forgot my ice tea. I had to remind him3 times. Then when we were try to make a toast to a friend who just got a promotion he came and interrupted us to tell us about the specials. The right thing to do is to wait till we finish since it doesn’t take long it was just a toast. I find that very rude. Also he somehow disappeared for a long time. The whole service is just not good.
Hello Empress, Sorry about the awkward service. Not sure how things got off so badly with your timing. Reach out to me the next time you are in so that we can make sure you are enjoying your visit with us. Thanks, Brian Cousins, GM
The restaurant is beautiful but the food I had was mediocre at best. What a shame. Their so-called Caesar Salad was boring - some cut lettuce, soft croutons and the dressing was probably from a bottle. I had the pasta dish Bolognese; it was okay. The menu is limited and most of the entree choices are pricey. I can't comment on what the others had at the table, except that my wife was unimpressed. As I said, it's a pretty place but they need to get a good chef.
Hi Alan, Thanks for your thoughts. The Caesar dressing is made in house. We usually get very high marks for it so we will taste it carefully in the future. We are not an inexpensive restaurant. Our value is in the ingredients we use which are a very high quality. Glad you enjoyed our décor. Thanks for coming in! Brian
I usually come here for happy hour about which I have no complaints--it's one of the best deals in Westwood and the food and wine are good. We went for dinner in the restaurant this time and I was disappointed. It was noisy--the open kitchen sounds like they are throwing pots against the wall--and the fish special we ordered was over priced (38 dollars) and over cooked. We were offered free dessert because we were headed to the Geffen and it took so long to come we had to leave before it came. The changes to the restaurant menu are disappointing--fewer choices, pricier, overly elaborate. Happy Hour is worth it, this wasn't.
Hi, Not sure what you didn't see as far as choices. We have 6 different seafood options and 8 different meat options for dinner. Sorry that your fish wasn't cooked correctly. Thanks for pointing that out. We can fix an issue like that. Thanks for your comments as negative as they seem, they make us improve. We do pay attention. Also thanks for the HH plug. It is the best in Westwood. See you again, Brian
The food was salty and undercooked. We were almost late for a play. It was overall mediocre and really disappointing.
Hello Violet, Sorry that the food was not to your liking. We hope that alerted a manager so that we could fix the problem while you were here. Thanks for giving us a try, Brian
My boyfriend and I love going there for brunch and dinner.
Thanks so much!! Brian
Great experience overall! Great food, ambiance & service! Highly recommend.
Thanks so much! Brian
I came Saturday noon and expected regular lunch menu and instead was given brunch menu. Very disappointed.
We offer brunch on the weekends. The brunch menu has 3 salads and 3 sandwiches as well as appetizers all very lunchable. And yes there are plenty of yummy egg dishes and bottomless mimosas as well. Thanks, Brian
Made a business lunch reservation for three a few days ahead. Requested quiet table where I could talk.
Arrived 15 minutes before reservation to get set up and make sure things were on point for my guests.
Apathetic hostesses literally put me in the center of their noisiest room. They would not let me have any of the empty booths around the perimeter because they were 5-tops. Ultimately they didn't want to be bothered by my requests. I scoped out another table in a quieter room -- but next to the kitchen with heavy foot traffic. They sat me there and it worked out -- even though far from ideal.
Ultimately, no help from hostess. Very expensive lunch for decent food and average waitstaff.
Why bother paying $40 per person for lunch with crappy service? The food wasn't that impressive....
Hi Mitch, Sorry for your experience. We do have a lot of nooks for a somewhat quieter table. We are an open space though so we are not always the quietest place. It seems as though you found a spot. As for the value of your lunch, we generally see our average per person around $27 for lunch. Not sure if you all had cocktails or wine, that could have brought the bill up some. Thanks for giving us a try. If you do come back, let a manager know so we can take better care of you. Brian
Disappointing food with a large price tag. Curry wraps were bland and stale. Salad uninteresting.
Service was incredible. Ambience was great.
Our food usually gets better noticed than this. Sorry you were disappointed. Hope to see you again! Brian
Love this place. Excellent and highly recommended. Always a wonderful experience with some of the best food. Lunch time is busy so make a reservation or head in early.
Hi Robert, Thanks so much for recommending us for lunch. See you soon! Brian
Although it was Father’s Day the food and service were good. It was a little noisy and the prices for some of the entrees were a bit high.
Hi Fred, We are indeed a restaurant with a buzz. Even with high ceilings the noise level can get up there. Thanks for coming! Brian
Graduation and Father's day at the same time....very cool
Thanks so very much!!! That is a crazy mix for sure...dads and grads... Brian
Our evening celebrating our son’s graduation from UCLA at the Napa Grill was perfect. The food and service was fantastic. There were 5 in our party and each entree was wonderful. We began our meal with the roasted Brussel sprouts and chicken liver pate.
Now I’m not a pate person, HOWEVER this dish was delicious .
We look forward to returning to the Napa Grill soon.
That's terrific. A graduation and a new dish to love. They are of course not on the same plain but it's wonderful that you point it out. We are so happy that the gathering went well. Congratulations again to your son and your family. Brian
UCLA graduation celebrations so noisy and crowded. But food and wine was well worth the crowds. My go to place when in Westwood
And we are blessed to have those amazing UCLA celebrations. Thanks so much, Brian
We celebrated our son's graduation from UCLA. It was just perfect. Our waiter, Ryan (the one who looks like Bradley Cooper), made our evening so much fun and memorable. He's the best!!
Hi Catherine, We are thrilled that your celebration went well. It was a very busy week at Napa and we tried our best to keep up with things and not get in the way of families and new graduates. We will let Ryan know of your kind words! Thanks again, Brian
My perspective may be jaded by my expectations. We established a reservation on the patio to celebrate our daughter's UCLA graduation. The restaurant called twice prior to our arrival, first to confirm the reservation details and second to gather information about her graduation, including her name and her degree. When we arrived they said they couldn't sit us on the patio and we ended up sitting in the aisle-like row of tables between booths. They never mentioned our daughter's graduation...I'm still puzzled about why they called. The food was fine, but is standard American fare. The staff filled out water glasses periodically and the food was served at appropriate times. However, they spoke more with one another than they paid attention to us. In short, I had high expectations and they delivered a ho-hum experience.
Hi, The patio was booked for a private event on Friday so we couldn't accommodate your group out there. We did and do have a gift card for your daughter and that is why we were reaching out to you. It got a little crazy for us as you can imagine with so many families there, that we did miss a few. Please have your daughter reach out to us (ask for Brian) and we will get it to her. Hope you enjoyed being with family and celebrating your daughter's major accomplishment. Thanks, Brian Cousins
Service was amazing and the staff made us feel as though we were the only family dining - it was UCLA Graduation night and they were packed ❤️
Thank you very much! It was wonderful week for all of us. We really enjoyed celebrating with you and the other families among yours. Major life events are a fantastic way for us all to be reminded of how we all fit in together. Congratulations to your family!! Brian
We had an enjoyable evening and an uhurried dining experience, but were a little disappointed in selection as we both remembered a menu that provided at least a couple vegetarian selections without having to concoct something special. That said, we could have checked the menu on-line ahead of time and so have to accept a large share of responsibility for our moderate disappointment.
Thanks for your note Sal19. We do have some basic items but we really want to create a personal dish for the vegans and vegetarians that come in. We do this for many of our allergy customers as well and it seems to work well. See you again, Brian
Can’t rave enough about Napa Valley Grille. It was my parent’s anniversary, and everyone there made it special and memorable, especially our server Tara and manager Dave Meyers. An unforgettable experience. Highly recommended.
Hi Rachelle, That is such good news!! We will let our team members know of your parent's great occasion with us. See you again soon, Brian
Experience is good, very noisy even at lunch. Location is great. Staff is very nice.
Hi Connie, So glad you had a good time! Brian
Dropped in for a nice quite dinner after visit to Universal Studios. On day 2 of family vacation down south. Food & beverages were great, Tara was amazing with recommendations. Manager dropped by table table couple times to say hi. Everyone is very friendly and make you feel very welcome. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks Napa Valley Grille!
Hi Michael, Thanks for such a kind review. Very happy we added to your vacation time. See you when you return!! Brian (the manager)
Lamb chops and flat bread was so good
Thanks Barbara! So glad you had a good time! Brian
