Mya Tiger at Hotel Esplanade
Sat, Sun 9:30 am–3:00 am
The newly renovated Espy has brought a well-needed breath of fresh air to an iconic Melbourne establishment...the changes are well-considered, detailed, authentic, and pay respectful homage to its history, from a heritage perspective and as a culture landmark. Mya Tiger was like stepping into an old Hong Kong prestigious hotel, the decor is thoughtful and appropriate to both the Espy building and the theme of the restaurant and its cuisine. The food was sensational, and the table service (from Phil) was just right - not overbearing, but attentive enough to not leave us wanting. The ginger chicken dumplings were flavorful, but the texture did not please; the kingfish sashimi was a favourite, fresh and perfectly balanced with the soy truffle sauce; the caramelised honey eggplant was delicious but perhaps more appropriate on the dessert menu. We were a big fan of the signature Sticky Carpet gin highballs. Final three words: mango coconut pudding!
Thank you Espy- we've been waiting a long time for your return and you dont disappoint. Shared plates at Mya came very quickly after ordering in
a busy pre Christmas period and everything very fresh and tasty. Service especially good- no snotty wait staff here.
We celebrated the birthday of a staff member and the venue was perfect. Great food, wine and service and the renovation is excellent. We are a firm of architects and are high in praise for the architectural resolutions provided by Techne. We will be back again...and again...and again.
The speed of service (if required) lends itself well for business lunches.
Food was really quite good. You need to know tho everything comes out from the kitchen whenever ..Advice would be to order 3...eat then order 3 more etc.Small menu hope there will be more choices added ,especially more fish and vegetarian options.Lovely ambiance and great to shift to the bar for drinks after.
Delicious food, beautiful venue. Only criticism is it took a while for the cocktails to be served after we ordered them. Like 10-15 mins.
This was the most disappointing dining experience I have had for a long time. I was waiting with high expectations of the experience, however I could not have disliked it more. The food was reheated Foodservice at best. The Duck was served cold, we highlighted my wife was pregnant and they just reheated the same food. The eggplant was fried batter with honey and the sesame toast was all oil deep fried rubbish. Don't waste your money with this over priced pub imitation of Asian food. Cantonese is not an accurate description.
The food was average and not authentic Cantonese. Nice ambience and good view if you are close to the window. Competing with Lau's and doesn't come close
Limited menu, but food was good. Would love to see a few more choices of food and cocktails. Staff and service was ace. The new Espy decor is great and the velour banquette tables here make you feel special.
Great creative menu with service and ambiance to match. Well priced for great experience.
So disappointing. Won’t be going back.
The venue is nice. Service was slow. Food was cold.
Hopefully it’s just teething issues.
The food came out to fast and it felt as though we were trying to be rushed out for the next customers, which isn’t good!
Full service, great price and quality
Great quick and tasty lunch, we shared crispy pork bao, duck bao, ginger chicken dumplings and pork and prawn su mai. All delicious as was my frozen lychee dacquari was delicious. Service great too, everyone. Do make sure you book well in advance.
