Mr Tompkins is a classic European-style restaurant with a modern twist using Native Australian Bushfoods. Our head chef Eric Kwek, previously from CODA, has carefully curated the menu with quality local produce.

Our paperbark Roasted Murray cod is our signature dish.
Paperbark is traditionally used by indigenous cultures as bedding and to wrap proteins in before tossing them into the fire and we have adopted this method to cook our Murray Cod. To impart the very unique smoky flavor we light the bark on fire to release the aromatic smell in the smoke.

Mr Tompkins is located at 318 Flinders Street Melbourne, opposite the iconic Flinders Street Station in the Melbourne CBD and a short stroll to famous landmarks like Federation Square, MCG, and the Rod Laver Arena.

Food showed a lot of skill and talent. The service was incredibly lacking. The restaurant was very quiet yet we were attended to very slowly and were discouraged from sharing our dishes. I had the sense the staff were trying but management had not given them the tools to excel at their role

Very quiet with only three tables having guests. Waiter was extremely nice and attentive. Food was fantastic although dessert did drop it from a 5 to a 4. All in all, a definite recommend

Mr Tompkins provided us with just the night and experience we were looking for - a quiet evening with beautiful food and old-world charm. The staff were very attentive to our needs and were extraordinarily personable. I couldn't recommend this lovely restaurant highly enough and will definitely be returning.

A wonderful hidden gem. I had the ribeye and it was done just right. My wife, a real stickler for properly done fish, had the Red Snapper and was delighted. The wine pours were quite generous. The only mark down was on ambience, because of how few people were there.

We were staying at the hotel and decided to book at Mr Tompkins for dinner. Service was fantastic from our waitress. My partner had the cheese soufflé for entree and it was delicious. He ordered steak which was very tender but my chicken was a little dry. Could not fit in dessert unfortunately.

Reserved a table at 6:30 pm there were only 7 others in the restaurant at the time. The waitress kept coming out apologising for the delay in the end she brought ou a bowl of red rock chips to keep us going It was 7:40 when my starter arrived. Wasn’t sure whether to cut my losses and go find a burger joint or persevere I finally got my mains about 8:20 the rump I ordered was full of fat and not cooked to my liking very disappointing and would avoid this restaurant in future

There is a very limited menu with not a lot of choices. The prices are very expensive considering and there is little value for money. There was a considerable wait for a couple of steaks with only a few people dining at 630pm. Our sides for the mains came out several minutes before the mains themselves. The food was cold. When asked by the staff about our meals, we said the food was cold, however, there was no reaction. There seemed to be no one in charge. There are much better dining experiences in Melbourne for this price.

Cactus and her fellows hosted a fabulus night for us. The services and foods were so increbidible that I decided to publish my first foodnotes for the restaurant. It's a fusion European restaurant. Like its description, the chef serves polyphony cusines by creatively decorating the old soul with ingenious elements. Though I didn't pick the dishes in a specific principle on purpose, I could still feel the harmony in the whole set and found the miniature of European forest and ocean. If you want a relaxing date or small group party, that's your chioce.
