Mr Crabby’s Craft Kitchen + Bar
Food was excellent, service was excellent. We will definitely be back!
Went early to have a couple of drinks excellent bar. Had the king crab legs, by far the best in the area. Price is great as well.
Very disappointing. Felt like we were in a chain restaurant and we're not a fan of chain restaurants. Food was not that great. My wife ordered the fish and chips which had no crunch at all to the batter and was pretty bland. Chips were bland as well. I had the grouper special served over edamame risotto. Ordered it blackened, came to me pan seared and once again I'd describe it as lacking a lot flavor. The risotto was good though. On a positive note the service was friendly and attentive and the free chips and pickled peppers and pickles were very good. It seems like the big attraction here is the happy hour at the bar that offered discounted drinks and apps. This was a one and done visit.
Food is better than the ambiance. Definitely talented kitchen staff - creative dishes, fresh seafood, generous portions and well presented plates. The staff did a good job. However, harsh, bright lighting and full surrounding of large TVs, some of them on channels that prone to ruin appetites, would make us think twice before coming back....
Excellent food and cocktails. Service was very responsive.
This was our first time at Mr. Crabby’s and we went because my boyfriend wanted the “Best Burger in Morris County for 2019” the bacon eater. We started with the buffalo chicken dip appetizer which was delicious but definitely a bit of a smaller portion than we were expecting. Then he ordered the bacon eater and I had the short rib Asian tacos. None of the food was bad by any stretch of the imagination but to say it was outstanding wouldn’t be accurate either. The burger was not as wonderful as he was expecting although it was ok. The tacos were also just ok. Lacking any big flavor at all.
The standout for our evening was our waitress- she was wonderfully accommodating and friendly. One of us had an incorrect drink and she immediately rectified the situation. She was attentive and personable.
The ambiance is nice- not too loud, open and a nice mix of restaurant with bar.
To be fair, we went to a seafood restaurant and neither of us ordered seafood so it’s quite possible that had either of us had a seafood item this review would have been more outstanding.
The service was not well managed and we did not receive our meals until about an hour after we placed the order.
This is second time to Crabby’s; first was in summer with outdoor seating and was pretty pleased with the ambience and food- but had had quite few drinks. Went again last weekend with friends to see band but food was inedible. The lettuce wraps were interesting but the peanuts were stand alone and not already in sauce.. luckily I ate those. The crunchy tuna rolls had barely any meat and was all rice. My friend and I had the scallops on risotto - which was nowhere near risotto and the scallops were so fishy and salty that we couldn’t eat it. The manager did come out and had the chef redo them... they were a bit less salty this time but still didn’t taste right, which was disappointing since that was supposed to be a signature dish. I just wrapped mine up and the waitress did take the meal off of my friends tab. My husband had the Oktoberfest special.. it’s hard to mess up German sausages but it was mediocre and the spaeztle was anything but that. The dishes looked amazing when they can out but the taste did not measure up.. I will say that my other friend had the filet and the veggies were pretty good as was the filet mignon.
The other thing which is the reason for the low rating was the service. We made reservations on open table which indicated that no seating was available from 7-9 so we went earlier than desired at 6:45... and then place stayed half empty the whole night! Actually it’s a good thing that we did because we barely got out in time to pick our daughter up by 9pm. We were having drinks and you would think the waitress would have been eager to sell us more but more than half the time she was nowhere to be found and we had to flag others down or order another as we were getting delivery for the last one.
All in all, I will likely not return here to eat.. way overpriced for the quality of the food ... and there are so many other good restaurants, so why bother
Simply put "AWFUl". Chowder was over seasoned so much that the clams were hardly noticeable. The Lobster in the Lobster Roll was so dry it was tasteless. The fish in the Fish and Chips was bland. The fries, however, were delicious.
Food was good but plates were awkward and too small.
Menu was inventive
Chips and aioli were addictive!
Burrata appetizer was great, as were the scallops and salmon, the brusssels sprouts
Drinks - merlot and an Octoberfest beer - were reasonably priced but the plastic cup the beer came in was awkward to drink from
When band comes on the background music should be turned off. We paid extra for the band, we should have been able to hear them clearly. We are hoping the 80's Revolution returns to Mr. Crabby's!
The food was perfect, as usual, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous to sit outside. Our only critique would be of the host who sat us. He was gruff and unfriendly. He tried sitting the 5 of us at a table for 4. My husband asked if he could put two tables together (we always order lots of food!) and so he did.
Fun restaurant with a nice combination of a casual family restaurant with open air seating and sports on tv and a separated bar area for adults with music on certain nights. The king and snow crab are excellent and all the meals we had were great!
The singer on a Sun. afternoon was to loud. My swordfish tasteless, ravioli dry and the clam chowder served with it was watery. We were 7 and about half enjoyed their dinner. The server was very attentive refilling drinks etc.
Good food, great service.would highly recommend. A little noisy with live band.
It took 20 minutes to get water and over 1/2 hour for beverages. The two meals ordered for the two children with us were given to someone else. The rest of our dinners came 20 minutes before the kids. We were only given 4 sets of silverware for 5 people. We had to ask for another when our food was served. A manager had to be asked for a second round of drinks. We were there 2 hours and didn’t even have dessert.
We had a 6pm reservation seated promptly upon arrival. Our server was attentive and helpful. We ordered the special Pan seared Salmon with Sesame ginger sauce with rice and Bok Choy. The Salmon was flavorless and the sauce was extremely salty. It was served on a long and narrow plate which made it impossible to eat without food falling off the plate. Bok Choy was basically a garnish. The second entree Slow braised Short Ribs over mashed potatoes with summer vegetables was excellent. We were offered a complementary dessert. We choice in house maid Chipwich. They were absolutely delicious. Mt Crabby is hit or miss, we will not return.
Mark was our server and very enthusiastic and helpful. Food was pretty good, enjoyed our time
Food, service, entry and exit were fantastic. Maybe it is me, but I could not hear all people at my table, so volume control is all I can offer for advice. Beyond that, fantastic.
Unlimited crab on Tuesday!!!
We stop here periodically as it's very close to our home but unfortunately, we consistently find the food to be underwhelming. The service is never good and it's also pretty loud so nearly impossible at times to have a conversation.
The food is great as well as the service but the band was incredibly loud! So loud that we had to yell at each other during our meal. For a Tuesday evening it was louder than I would have expected. We were seated at the opposite side to where the band was playing and it was still deafening! It did impact on our overall experience and we left as soon as we had finished our main meals without even considering dessert or coffee...
Food was mediocre. Service was lacking. They had open mic that night (we didn't know it) and escaped to the outside patio after our dinner. Waiter was attentive when we got there and didn't check in as much as we thought he should. We were able to stay and chat which was important to us.
Mr crabbys is a fun place to get a bite to eat. Staff and management is amazing. Food is very tasty
Food was very good but service was only okay especially once they got busy. The waiter was very nice but he forgot things we have requested, and just seemed like he was rushing to get away from our table
I have been to Mr. Crabby’s three times and it’s hit or miss. I would suggest going when it’s quiet and not when it’s busy. The most recent time I went was a Friday night and it was a mess. Food was coming out of the kitchen and being brought to the wrong tables. I ordered two of the same entreè for dinner and only one came out. The server told me he would have one immediately made up and it came out 20 minutes later. This was not the experience I had when I went on a weeknight. If I go back I will go on a weeknight and not on the weekend.
My wife and I were completely disappointed. Expensive, which is not the issue... quality of food was the issue. I am sorry to admit, this was the worst dining experience of my life.
Food only ok, and very highly priced. Weird exchange with waiter where he brought the wrong crab cake dish and asked if we just wanted to eat that one since he would have to throw it out. He charges us $29 for the dish instead of the $17 of the dish we actually ordered. When we asked for an adjustment he said the manager would make him pay the difference. When we asked to speak to the manager he said just not to tip him or take it out of the bill.
We wound up paying more money for the dish we did not order and tipping the server, but it was a weird exchange.
Small group dined for an early dinner. Restaurant was fairly empty but became nearly full as our meal progressed. Service was very good. Server was helpful with drink selection and even brought a sample of beer on tap to try - very appreciated! Raspberry mojito was light and refreshing! Good beer selection. Tuna tartare and fried calamari were nice apps to share. Love the complimentary potato chips with aioli and veg. Everyone was happy with their meal....crab cakes, fish tacos and lobster mac and cheese. Key lime pie is good and intensely flavored. Oreo mousse jar was also yummy! Good food in a casual dining setting. Will return.
Tried it. Wouldn’t go back. Not a great experience. Better website than experience.
As frequent visitors to other establishments from this restaurant group, we are once again disappointed with our visit to Crabby's. While we never expect a high end meal from these more homey places we usually can expect consistancy....but crabbys is consistently poor. All three meals were problems. Mine just lacked any flavor and had 5 small overcooked shrimp from their "new shrimp and pasta" offering with all butter as broth. My wife asked for the crunchy fished tacos with no chipotle sauce, add avocado. Came out with wrong fish. No avocado and with sauce. When we sent it back we got brown avocado..for which of course we paid extra. Daughter had hair in her first lobster roll. When that was sent back the removed not only the hair but most of the lobster..do she had a hot dog roll for dinner. Manager was unapologetic....hey Dean and group...you have lost some long time customers
Great seafood spot that we stumbled on. Service was great, food was also good, snow crabs were a bit pricey but we enjoyed the food.
We had a great time at the restaurant. The food and service was outstanding. We had family from out of state and the seafood was excellent. Thank you! Even our desserts were excellent.
Birthday but one kid was not feeling well so we just ate entree and left! Nobody’s fault!
Food was very good. Menu has a lot to choose from. Will be back :)
The food was not as good as in past visits. Main course was overly salty. No accompaniments were offered. No one offered to replenish our water glasses when empty.
Pasta course contained no color and no veggies.
Had heard many good things about Mr. Crabby and had been to Morris Tap & Grill a couple of times. Swordfish was a bit over cooked though accompanying lobster ravioli and the mushroom risotto side was outstanding. Service & all else was terrific.
Terrible service and terrible food. Our appetizers even took 45 minutes to come out. Entrees were cold. The waiters barely acknowledged us the whole time.
Really crowded on Fathers Day. An hour wait for food. The staff just wasn’t prepared for the crowd. Very nice servers, food decent
We went here for Father’s Day with a party of 5 (plus a toddler). Food was pretty good but the service was horrible.
Busboy wanted all the smoke and was about to get dropped if he kept up his attitude. Word of advice to Mr Crabbys: Your customers are not here to collect your empty pint glasses and appetizer dishes.
I’m a pretty easy going person. I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with a busboy in my life. After 13 empty dishes and plates on our table, I finally asked for the busboy to clear the table. He copt an attitude and snapped at me “That’s what I’m here for” (but apparently not - because I have six empty glasses in front of me and my waiter keeps delivering drinks left-and-right). Honestly, I thought the kid was on drugs. He kept asking us if we were alright but then would freak out about “busy the kitchen was” when we would ask for a glass of water.
Mr. Crabbys is a decent spot. Just watch for the burnout chubby busboy and you’ll be fine.
The food is wonderful and the service is outstanding. Difficult to carry on a conversation but if you’re looking for a vibrant atmosphere, it’s fine.
