Great interior
Some of the wait staff did not seem very interested in providing service and did so begrudgingly.
Food was good overall but not great. Chips were awful.
Drinks were very expensive.

Delicious, adventurous dishes complemented by attentive service make this our go-to spot for special occasions or hosting out of town guests.

Very disappointing for a restaurant with such a good reputation. Great staff, wine list and bar. We were served white bread jaffle with a virtually no flavour filling for $19 (this was suppose to replace the Yabby and Truffle on the menu previously).

Found Monster to be a wonderful, well appointed night out.

Knowledgeable and energetic service, extensive drinks list and excellent food. The share plates were wonderful. Potentially slightly limited in proteins for the mains but absolutely gorgeous food.

We were particularly impressed with the service and the ease of staff catering to our 6 year old. They have one of the better kid's menus I've seen, not just your boring old nuggets & chips!

Service was a little slow at the beginning, however the dishes came out fairly quickly. We shared most dishes, interesting food combinations and just enough for tasters. We were a table of 6 and we were sitting in the corner window, it was relatively quite and private. Food was good, will come back again.

Every meal is a masterpiece, in every way. Such a cliche! But really well deserved here.

I came here with my husband and thought it was just ok. The food is quite expensive and compared to other similarly priced restaurants I would say it was below par.
The service again was just ok. We weren't told the specials until after we'd ordered our food and it turns out I would have loved one of them instead of what we ordered. It seemed like the staff were a bit lost. We got a drink then we're asked 10 mins later if we'd received the drink. Again nothing terrible but not worth $100p/h.

Ambience, service and variety of menus were all great, however dessert was disappointing with the chocolate mousse having an overly-gelatine, rubbery texture and lackluster flavour. Mandarine purée was bitter and unappetizing.

Had a fantastic spot next to the window with views of the lake, and a round table which enabled us to talk together as a group of 8. Love the 1960s decor too!

The desserts were stupendous and good value for money. But the size of the one meat main we had had shrunk considerably since I last visited. great taste, but far too small for sharing (all dishes are sharing plates)

All the food was of the very high standard we've come to expect at Monster. We also enjoyed excellent wines from the very impressive wine list. We were surprised, however, to have all of the share plate dishes we ordered arrive at our table at the same time, leaving us to choose which dish to have cold. We were advised that this is not normal practice at Monster and it hasn't happened on our previous visits. It should not have happened this time.

Average appearance though with a palpable buzz, cool dude service, above average food. The degustation menu is good value at $70 and the shared mains are excellent. Terrible dessert - the 'soft ' chocolate. Overall a satisfactory experience provided one is happy to spend $100 per head.

Although a somewhat limited menu, the food was well prepared and tasty. Service was good. Unfortunately, I thought it was a little overpriced. At $35+ for a shared plate, of which you needed at least three plates. Wine $17 per glass.

Monster Kitchen and Bar did not disappoint! The architecture, ambience and design style in the setting of Hotel Hotel is eclectic, stunning and beautifully done. Love the 70s feel fire settings mixed with art and collectibles. Enhanced by warm friendly people and service who are committed to hospitality. The food was delicious and elements unique. The thought and care that was in the menu was on the plate and it will be a memorable dining experience for us. Highlights; trout, fish and eggplant!

The food was awesome and the waitstaff both friendly and knowledgeable. The only way to describe the menu however is wanky. Its trying too hard to cater for hipsters. While I greatly enjoyed the food I felt that it wasn't great value for money with fine dining restaurants nearby being cheaper and offering better ambience. So a mixed review. If you consider yourself a hipster foodie this is certainly a place to try.

I was struck by how perfect the noise level was. The restaurant was full but we could hear each talk, and hear the groovy music, but couldn't hear other tables' conversations or any bustle from the bar area.

Truly inspired menu - cocktail with squid ink? tick. Duck with guanciale? tick. And so on and so forth. Wonderful attentive and knowledgable service. Quirky surrounds. What more is there?

Fantastic restaurant; as soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a chirpy "Happy birthday", which made us feel right at home. The food, and the drinks were impressive, and I will defenitely be recommending the place to friends. One suggestion though is to check in on diners more often, we were waiting for a while in between orders etc. But overall, a great night, and we will definitely be revisiting.

We had a wonderful birthday meal at Monster kitchen and Bar.
The food was fantastic and explained to us by well trained, informative, friendly, fun staff. Its a really relaxed atmosphere and we felt well looked after but not hassled....
A good wine list with a selection of local wines which is important.
Love the eclectic mix of furniture and decor.

Everything about the place is great except the food
The shared plates are small. The balance is out
Bugs spoilt by too much vinegar on the cabbage. King fish dominated by the sauce and the very small duck serve ruined by a very salty black pudding
The dessert was a mess

Brunch review. Great venue, atmosphere, selection of food and drinks. However, staff taking orders without a notepad is a recipe for disaster, as we experienced, which means that someone's meal has to be prepared again and eaten alone. This was made worse by the staff member implying that the customer had requested the order in question to save face with kitchen staff. Gluten free bread delivery hadn't arrived and no replacement options. Smoked salmon not recommended. Ask for soft poached.
