Monster Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Always great food, 100% delicious, 100% of the time. Just that this time, we had to ask to be served, we had to remind the waiters about our drinks order twice... service had dropped from the last times we'd eaten there. Service was totally professional & quality... just the attention was missing this time. But everyone can have an off night, so we'll be back for sure!
Drinks in the bar were great, however when we were moved to a corridor for dinner wasn't impressed and had to ask to relocate which was onbliged.
That first table for 2 to the right as you exit bar is poorly located and lacks any of the otherwise created overall feel.
We have dined at monster a number of times now and unfortunately the usual fantastic service was absent. When we arrived we were greeted by 3 different staff, all of whome were unable to seat us even though they approached us while we waited in the appropriate spot. Only after about 5 minutes someone from behind the bar noticed us becoming frustrated and was able to seat us immediately.
The wait staff were generally fine however after most of our dishes were delivered to us and explained, we were left uninspired and unexcited. There was also a couple of instances where the wait staff did not know what the dish was.
The food is good and the menu varies which brings us back. Unfortunately for this occasion we were rather underwhelmed for a restaurant with a Hat. Consistency is key and our time at Monster was less enjoyable due to its absence. We will definitely be back and hope to experience the service we have before.
We had to be in Canberra and I took a chance on 'Monster' for my husband's birthday and we had a wonderful evening. The decor is eclectic and interesting and the ambience feels good - put simply, it's nice to be there and that's before you experience the lovely food. It's also great value - we had a delicious and opulent, in the culinary sense, degustation .
We ordered the beef tartare, quail and quince (dessert) absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We also ordered the flank steak which was okay, it just needed a sauce-it was dry dish which was disappointing. The staff were friendly, professional and quirky which is always welcome! I would go back and try the other dishes! 👍🏻👍🏻
The vegetarian options here were sub par. Everything tends to have some kind of animal based addition (bonito soy for instance)
Agedashi tofu was good but similar to what you would get for half the price in a decent sushi joint. Eggplant with goats curd wasn't quite right in terms of flavour profile.
Perhaps their meat bases dishes are better.
We had 2 dinners and one breakfast here while staying at Hotel Hotel.
Excellent interesting food choices, innovative and delicious. In particular the Mulloway dish on the dinner menu, was exceptional. Also the duck parfait , a perfect accompaniment to the 2004 Great Ron shiraz we were recommended by Sommelier Rob whose advice was excellent, helpful, knowledgeable ( esp about local Canberra wines ) and informative. We enjoyed our conversations with him and relished his suggestions for cellar doors to visit.
Breakfast was fabulous. The Quince dish with ricotta was outstanding.
We have no hesitation in recommending Monster Bar and Kitchen.
What a wonderful evening. Our server, Nathan was fabulous. Friendly, informative and encouraged us to try new things!
Neither of us had tried offal before and the beef tongue was to die for!
We selected two items each from the bar and main menu and seriously I cannot fault a single thing. It was all melt in your mouth, delicious!
Will definitely recommend and be back again. thank you!
What an outstanding venue, ambience, service, and menu! Everything about Monster Kitchen & Bar and it's setting inside Hotel Hotel stimulated the senses. The first thing that hits you is the marvellous architecture and decor of the building and restaurant. The menu was interesting and sounded so good that it was difficult to decide what to order. The artwork and artefacts are amazing! I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. A definitely 10 out of 10 rating overall!
Upmarket, different style of food but very nice. Great environment. Not the place to go for steak and chips dishes more like you would find on Masterchef. Vibrant flavours great taste step out of your comfort zone and experience Monster. Great setting friendly staff
Love the creativity, the art. Appreciated the personalised service dedicated to us, looking after us, friendly, professional. And LOVED Eden's descriptions of the good - an audio and imaginative experience that blew my mind!! Almost didn't have to eat it - that was an experience in itself! So sensuous. But we did, and it was delicious, not so sure about the pumpkin, but as always, the eggplant!!
Martinis were a bit ... flat?
Could have softer lighting in the lounge area for more intima
Totally surprising. The food was fabulous. I previewed the menu and thought that I wouldn't like anything. Our wonderful waiter (Emma) encouraged me to try some things I would never normally try (raw steak, blood sausage) and it was delicious. The desserts were superb!
My husband and I had a brilliant dinner experience at Monster.....the food was delicious....we enjoyed every morsel. We love food with lots of flavour and textures and our meal certainly delivered. The staff were warm and friendly and clearly knew their stuff....the atmosphere lively and vibrant. Wonderful.
Service was a little slow at the beginning, however the dishes came out fairly quickly. We shared most dishes, interesting food combinations and just enough for tasters. We were a table of 6 and we were sitting in the corner window, it was relatively quite and private. Food was good, will come back again.
