We also import our green tea directly from Japan, our green tea is single origin and organic, try the 'gyokuro' our favourite.
Beautifully presented and very good service.
Firstly, loved it! A charming fitout with a vintage vibe. The menu is not the predictable "Aussie" Japanese but with plenty on there for the traditionalist. I skipped breakfast so jumped into a bowl of fries (who would have thought?) and a bottle of chardonnay while we decided on our lunch dishes. Loved the salmon carpaccio with the most divine dressing - so good my partner was tempted to order a second helping, the raw tuna dish equally impressive, beautifully presented with cubes of avocado and hot pink wedges of sweet pickled (radish?) - the avo was a little brown, my only complaint for the day other than only one server who was doing very well but clearly run off his feet. The food has a feel of a master home cook - beautifully presented and constructed with love. The wine list is short and sweet but well considered. I would happily come back with a group of friends to sit around one of the lovely antique large tables and work through the balance of the menu. Wish I had have poked my head around the bar to acknowledge whoever was working their magic in the kitchen - won't forget next time!
I think this is the first dining review I’ve ever written.. I felt like I had to because this place was just so good - I’ve worked in aquaculture for years and I can confidently say that all the sashimi was really fresh and of amazing quality. Presentation was excellent too. Also loved the tofu ramen. Atmosphere is chilled but funky, non pretentious, tasteful music. Prices are more than fair - do yourself a favour and get down here as soon as you can!
Absolutely outstanding. Service was great, good exceptional, and amazing drinks. Will go again and again!
Wonderfully warm and generous hospitality, with some more traditional cuisine interpretations with a twist of contemporary. Delicious home brewed cocktails. A gem
Great Food, great staff
Thoroughly enjoyable dinner - highly recommended !
I am delighted that MONOU is a local eatery! - delicious Japanese food
Lovely place for a small catch up with friends. Amazing Japanese food, so flavourful!
Excellent local eatery with High Class food but still casual.
Great wait staff
Beautiful and creative fresh food and lovely attention service
Cosy Japanese restaurant for a romantic date.
Highly recommend for people on restricted diet as most of dishes are light but delish.
Thanks Monou. We will be back❤️🌸
I recently had my birthday hear and it was amazing. Wonderful staff good food and sake. I will be coming back again!! Thanks heaps!!
Everything's fresh and tasty, tofus dumplings are impressive, just hope they can be browned a bit more.
And maybe better to have pics menu since some customers may not understand some Japanese dish names, more attractive for people to order.
Staffs are so nice.
Definitely want to try the cocktail menu next time.
The food was delicious and the service excellent. We really liked the decor and ambience.
Unique refined, sophisticated flavours that seem to be effortlessly created. Just tasty delicious food at very reasonable prices. We are planning on visiting often.
It’s our second time to have dinner in MONOU, very enjoy it always, food is delicious, staff are so friendly and take care of customer as well, the environment is very comfortable, definitely go again.
Quiet relaxing restaurant serving quality japanese food. The staff were so lovely I can't wait to go back.
Lovely cosey place in Sth Melb. Gorgeous food and great service.
The only downfall that I would have to make is the amount of wine that was poured in a standard drink. (Very minimal) We had to have a laugh. Besides this, everything else was fantastic.
The food, decor and atmosphere is lovely, the selection of ingredients could be of a better quality, then the place would be ideal for a secret Japanese spot
Authentic Japanese food but with a twist. Lovely owner and staff. I can recommend the shochu infused with fruit made by the owner’s mother (also a restauranteur but in a Tokyo).
The food was delicious - higlight being the eggplant. The ambiance was lovely too, we had a great time & will be back!
I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered. The fish was fresh & delicious, the combination of flavours in the dishes were just right & the staff were attentive. I will definitely be returning.
Fresh, layers of flavour and beautiful presentation. High quality Japanese cuisine
The food presentation was very creative, nothing I have seen before!
I'm generally skeptical of Japanese fusion places as I prefer the traditional Japanese flavours and often find fusion places disappointing. But Monou takes the Japanese flavours to another level by keeping the traditional flavours with modern Western cuisine. The dishes were super innovative - I was particularly impressed with the tuna and parmesan cheese plate. The flavours burst in my mouth without conflicting each other and I really enjoyed the textures on the pallet.
The prices were very reasonable and will be going back in the near future
It was a lovely experience - we enjoyed the food and the place very much.
Lovely restaurant. Feels relaxed yet sophicated. Went for lunch and they had a special lunch menu. A la carte menu looked great too so can’t wait to go back to try it out. School prawns were crispy and very tasty!
