Another amazing night at Monkitail! Their new specials are thru the roof! The crispy sea bass roll was ridiculous with wasabi soy sauce. Always a great experience definetly don’t miss out on Nokku ask Mike where the secret bar is !
Super expensive for a Hollywood restaurant. Food was good but I think they increased their prices recently. Better off Makoto in Bal Harbor, better food and better value.
And thank you to the hostess (this is where I get even) who tried to give us the worst table in the restaurant when I reserved beforehand and the restaurant was half empty. The table was at the end of a corridor, dark and an awful location. Shouldn't even be a table especially after spending over $200 in your restaurant.
Consistently good service and food. Not huge portions but adequate-- you can taste a lot of small dishes. Might be expensive to feed someone with a large appetite. Brussel Sprouts and Teriyaki Chicken are two of our favorite dishes and these are large enough to share!
Great food and
We came to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful time. Our server was Pablo and he made us feel right at home. We tried the chef's tasting menu and enjoyed everything that came out way. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was romantic. I recommend and would go again.
The items that were listed gluten free on the menu were not all true once at the restaurant. Very disappointed. Most of the food was average, a couple items were not as good as expected and a couple were better.
Amazing experience, start to finish. One of the best dinners we’ve ever had.
My husband and I were staying at the diplomat for my birthday and had dinner at Monkitail at the recommendation of everyone we asked! The decor is beautiful, very cool and posh without being stuffy at all. We started with the Monkitail cocktail which has a pretty cool presentation where they smoke the glass before pouring. Our waiter Claude recommended we go with the Chef's Selection and guided us to choosing a delicious sampling of the restaurant. Absolute must haves are the duck bao buns, scallops robatayaki, aged NY strip steak.
Sushi rolls and charred broccoli were delicious! Couldn't have been prepared better! The cotton cheesecake was the perfectly light dessert after the great meal. Service was very good as well. Would definitely enjoy again upon my return.
Amazing ambiance! the decor was tastefully executed , the food was extremely tasty. We had the chef special which consisted of 10 tapas style portions and I highly recommend it.
Amazing food can’t wait to bring family back next time we are in Florida!
It was a parting day for me and a good friend of mine as I am from Chicago , I am going back home to Chicago after three weeks in Miami , as for my friend-they live here. As a treat It was their first time here after living here for 16 years. As well as my first time visiting and dining here. Food was above expectations. The only
Complaint on the food would be. The grilled lobster tail wasn’t to edible given it was not detaching from shell and ended up being tossed as I didn’t want to be that lady attacking a small plate, I did let server know I wasn’t satisfied
Furthermore, As the business showed its eagerness to fully close by brightening the dining room and muting the music then finally giving me a half filled / made drink. I asked and paid my bill I waited for my final receipt and change . But Waited tooo long . I missed my Uber .
Ultimately I’ll say this .
Poor team management for closing
Poor customer solutions for complaints
Recommend further kitchen training for seafood.
As well as no short cuts in the kitchen.
As this wasn’t the worst place. I would recommend and give it another try . I’ll add it to my reasons to come back. Don’t hesitate on the desserts or signature drinks .. keep it up and perfect the craft from open to close.
Always an amazing experience! Favorite restaurant in Miami :)
The overall dining experience was fair. The dinning room is poorly lit and dark. The menu was confusing and needed clarification from the server. The quality of the food was fair but expensive. Cocktails were mediocre and were returned by two guests in our party. The restaurant does validate for parking.
Food was fantastic. We opted for the Chef’s Tasting Menu (10 selections -1 from each section plus dessert). It was a lot of food and we weren’t able to finish it. It was a pity as everything tasted great and we really wanted to eat it all. We made sure to try everything and we loved every selection. It was all fresh and great tasting. If I was pushed to pick favorites I’d say the Kobe beef robatayaki, lamb chop robatayaki, and yellowtail toro sashimi were my favorites. But really everything we ate was excellent. Service was great. It was a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to go back.
The food is fresh and delicious! The edamame dumplings are amazing. Crispy tuna rice rivals the best. As a world traveler we appreciate the exquisite dining. The staff is welcoming, and the food comes out quickly every time. The atmosphere has a modern flair with many lights to snap a photo of your monkitail cocktail or sushi ice cream presentation. There is an expansive bar and speakeasy in the back with lots of sake options and karaoke. The parking is complimentary.
Our waiter Henry was very attentive he gave us really good recommendations. Everything he recommended was delicious. Highly recommendable. Definitely will be back
The food was delicious, and the servers both times we went were very kind and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant and hope to come back one day.
Best food we had at The Diplomat. It was so good we went a second night.
Muy buena atención , muy buena comida. Súper recomendable !
Beautiful place, just very noisy, we pick the chef menu but think that charging per person is too much for just a sample If I knew this would order by Dish, for the rest was a good experience.
Good experience and tasting menu good at reasonable price but the desert is only a joke... The atmosphere is really enjoyable and Sake cocktail tasty...
Try it for sure...
Absolutley amazing restaurant . Food is amazing, services to. Thank you so much
Absolutely the best meal I have had to date ! Our waiter Matteo was accommodating, friendly and made the experience even better !
Claude was a phenomenal server and his recommendations were spot on. He walked us thru the menu and explained the differences. Great food with wonderful flavor.
This restaurant gives you a great bang for your buck. I highly recommend the tasting menu. If it’s your first time, consider their cinnamon whiskey cocktail. It’s a pretty neat presentation. Make sure to come in with an empty stomach (the 9 courses really are filling).
Amazing Food Experience👍
Great service....We will return
Maxi excelente mesero comida buenísima súper recomendado maxi y el restaurante
Delicious food! Great service. Great Ambiance... Will be back again!!
Our first visit. Loved the small portions! Cucumber and avocado rolls we're very tasty!
The food, servers and overall experience were EXCEPTIONAL! Looking forward to coming back! 👍👌
Outstanding food, our favorite is the kobe steak, pork belly , sea bass and shrimp fried rice. Great quality!
I have mixed feelings about my dining experience on my birthday, Sunday night, 7/21. Our waiter, Tonnie, was very helpful in explaining how the 10 small plate (most very small) $65 per person tasting menu works. Once I was ready to order, our waiter was tending to another table with 3 diners. Between serving them drinks and answering their questions, we waited about 20 minutes before we could get his attention.
Now about the $13 per small plate tasting for 2. What did we really get? To start they serve 2 courses at a time. Not a problem because the 4 quarter size rolls (one plate) and 2 small yellowtail sashimi went down quickly. Next 4 small spicy tuna mousse dollops on a tasty cracker. Same as 2 robata grilled shrimp (overcooked with head) and 8 tiny thin nuggets of sirloin steak in garlic sauce on small sticks. Then a nice bowl of Chinese noodles with shrimp. One bowl to share. Then came the much-anticipated duck Bao buns that we read so much about. We were served one apiece. But much to my surprise this was not pure duck meat on a Bao bun. Rather it was ground up like a slider, deep-fried, and served on the bun. It was tasty, but in a way that masked much of the flavor of the duck. Finally, we were served two final dishes. One of sliced ribeye steak with bean sprouts and scallions, the second a very nice and delicious sea bass. The last 2 dishes being the only ones worth the $13 per plate cost. Dessert consisted of 4 tiny ice cream cones in two different flavors. A very nice touch.
Now, I don't want you to think we had a bad time. We did enjoy the experience. We met a wonderful family next to us, and shared great conversation. But, we would not order the $65, 10 course tasting again. We will return to sample their regular menu.
Food was fantastic, but a bit expensive
Our service started very slow and the tasting menu vs regular menu definitely needed further explanation. I’m still not sure if the a la carte portion sizes would’ve been the same as the chef tasting menu portion sizes but since it’s tapas style I can only assume so- which if is the case doesn’t seem to be a very good value at all. They seem to push you in the way of the tasting menu but don’t let you pick and choose which categories you’re actually interested in. You have an appetizer, small plate, meat, fish, fried, etc. and you can’t swap one for the other which would have been nice in moderation. We also got cocktails- one off the specialty menu and one not- the specialty drink was delicious but the vodka cranberry, not so much, and our waiter did nothing to remedy it after we told him he just laughed it off. The food itself was AMAZING and everything tasted good, even things we weren’t sure about. Overall, the experience was great and you’ll leave full but I don’t know that at $65 per person and then some it’s worth it for the portion sizes, menu, and somewhat lackluster service.
This place was a nice sight but the variety of the food was poor. There wasn’t a variable selection to choose from. Not my favorite at all. “Okay” at its best.
What an amazing dining experience. We did the Chef’s Dinner. Enjoyed every course!
The service was excellent! Romario explained everything and was very nice and fun. The food was delicious with a great presentation. We got the chef’s tasting menu, and every dish was outstanding. The ambiance was lively. Really enjoyed it and highly recommend it!
This was our second visit, and we have ordered the chef's tasting menu each time. We've also been fortunate to have had Mateo as our waiter both times--he's a gem! He expertly guided us through the various menu selections and encouraged us to try dishes that we wouldn't have picked ourselves but that were delicious! Food, service, ambience--all wonderful!
The food is delicious! I ate here 2 nights in a row because I couldn’t get enough!
