ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE!
We were celebrating our 38th anniversary. We were greeted and seated in a most welcoming way. We chose a shiraz wine however while perusing the a la carte menu my wife had to ‘sort out’ a mosquito on the glass next to our table. Our natural oysters arrived accompanied by a blowfly which we continually had to chase. When the waitress collected our dishes she managed to knock over the bottle of wine.....all over the table...and...all over my wife’s slacks....yes they were white and no table cloth to help absorb anything. The manager?....supervisor?... arrived and offered her a complementary drink. My wife vehemently suggested that a complementary bottle of wine was in order. The manager quickly complied. Our mains arrived (we both ordered the New York Strip with Diane sauce and broccolini with shaved Parmesan). The sprinkling of Parmesan was barely noticeable. The steaks were beautiful and tender but the ‘diane sauce’ consisted of something akin to a red spare ribs sauce which completely dominated and therefore totally spoiled them. We both scraped off the sauce after having enquired if we had been given the correct meals.....the response was...”Yes, this is our Diane sauce.” We perused the dessert menu. There seemed to be nothing ‘specially prepared’ by a chef. We opted for the Cheese Platter for two. The waitress asked, “Which cheese would you like?” I verified with the manager that our understanding of a cheese platter being a selection was correct and she agreed. After ‘discussing’ the bill including whether a $9.80 offer for dry cleaning was appropriate or not we went home....anniversary celebration totally ruined.
Great food, nice service. Some points need improvement such like timing of service.
The food was very good happy to pay the price lovely little Italian waitress
The only complaint i have was when i tried to change our booking from 6 to 6.30 through open table...it said nothing available till thursday! The resturant was empty!
This was actually the third time that this family has inter-acted with your operations - once some time ago you catered for one of my granddaughter's high school graduation, something I did not attend but both her and her mother were not impressed. The second time, not so long ago, my other granddaughter looked at your organisation to cater for her wedding, due next year, but she, a very good cook, like her mother, thought that the value was not there and went elsewhere. Our recent foray then was the third strike I am afraid.
For a start, it took an inordinate amount of time to actually get a drink once we sat down, and even longer before our initial meal arrived. None of us expected a KFC/McDonald's type turn around, but the wait for the food was inexplicably long, particularly considering there were few diners in front of us.
As to the food, my daughter's chicken was under-cooked for her taste and she made it clear to the waitress that she wanted cooked chicken. My granddaughter's steak which she ordered medium rare was not and whilst the bouillabaisse which I ordered was reasonable, I have had far fresher seafood at various eateries up and down the coast. Finally, I find it amazing that in an establishment that touts itself as "French Fusion" your waitress was unsure whether you served a café royale coffee or not. The one saving grace was the cheese platter which was good
Food and service was exceptional for our group. Nothing was too much trouble, very enjoyable.
The oysters cold, clean and delicious. The Lamb tender and flavoursome- cooked to perfection. We enjoyed our night out and would definitely recommend.
Definitely that special place to celebrate our 38th Wedding Anniversary. Enjoyed the many gluten free options.
Great service and the food and wine were fantastic.
Very good menu with a fine degustation offer and exceptional wine list. I ordered a special bottle and unfortunately it was corked, but they took it back without question and I was able to order a different exceptional bottle no problem. Nice serving sizes and very well presented and beautiful food - the eye fillet was very fine. Service is very attentive and well turned out. They did have a propensity to take away finished diners used dishes before everyone had finished which is unusual. Our mains arrived before I had finished entree which is not great, but in defense, I am a very slow eater. The noise levels were quite high but most of that was from the street. We will be back for a degustation at some time.
Great food and wine. Friendly and efficient waiter.
I was very impressed with the amount of gluten free options on the menu, especially the dessert menu. It’s not often that there is such a choice in gluten free dining.
Had a great evening out. food was outstanding. Great out door dining area. Great service.
Great food. Excellent and thoughtful service. Highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
We thoroughly enjoyed Michel's, Our waitress was lovely and very attentive.
The food was delicious and service was quick.
We love that you have some round tables, much better for everyone socially when dining in a larger group.
Although you did have one large group on a huge long table, I find this form of seating very sociably restrictive on guests, and they were right in front of the doors and kitchen area, so it restricted people moving around to talk to their other friends as the waiting staff was constantly moving in and out of that area with drink trays ans food.
Being on Palmer street where parking is hard to find, we found it wonderful that you have parking in the rear for your customers.
We will definitely return.
Understaffed. Slow service. Tasteless food (except for the fish of the day ).
Food was phenomenal!! Could not fault a thing! We will definitely be returning.
Not my first visit to this beautiful restaurant and won’t be last - food is always amazing and wait staff were very good
The food was Fantastic food we had a great night there. Only thing we were disappointed we didn’t have enough room for the delectable sounding desserts
The service was excellent the waiters were helpful and the food was fantastic
The food was sensational! We thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. We have chosen Michels to do the catering for our wedding and I am now positive that we have made the right choice :-)
Friendly, attentive staff from the moment we entered until we left. I had the crab and sweet corn pate which was outstanding. My wife tried the stuffed zucchini flowers which she has been waiting to try. She was not disappointed. They were wonderful. My main course of 500g OP rib on the bone was a slight disappointing in that it was a little undercooked ( I ordered Med and it was MR-R) and not a good cut, but the gentleman beside us ordered the same and cleaned it to the bone, so I was just unlucky. My wife had the chicken and said it was beautiful.
Dessert was my highlight with my wife having the crepe brûlée and wanting another. I chose the glazed oranges and filo and honey sauce. Superb but very, very sweet. 😁
Short notice business meal that included foreign guests. The menu was perfect for this to show case some excellent Australian cuisine wines. A few Australian cocktails followed by the Wirra Wirra Shiraz topped it all off. And, of course the service and ambiance topped off a great evening and we look forward to future events.
Once we got our meals, they were great, just had to wait a long time as our order wasn’t put through till I asked why we were first there and last to get our meals. Other than that, always a great dinner at Michels.
Great food, great atmosphere, would happily return again for more delicious food.
This restaurant is suppsedly French, but there is not much evidence of that.
My duck main course was not balanced. The duck itself was good, but the meal lacked vegetables, which are the cheapest part, so why not be a bit more generous. 5 sweet potato chips does not cut the mustard, nor soak up the gravy.
My partner liked her chicken.
Thank you Michel’s for a fantastic experience. I took my partner here for his 25th birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed it!
Excellent service and even brought over a complimentary dessert as a surprise for his birthday - that not even I knew about!!
Thank you for a great night!
Service and table position were excellent. Ambience was very pleasant. Japanese shooters are to die for and I would order as a main course. My wife had the duck and loved it. I had the steak and it was cooked perfectly (rare) but was quite sinewy and tough. Enjoyable night.
Michel's has always been our go-to restaurant for class and consistency, but perhaps they have lost their way. The staff serving us were not experienced (did not respond to eye contact to get attention) and the tasting menu (degustation with wine) was quite a let down. The starters were great as was the desert but the lamb dish was so chewy I ended up spitting it out. The wine was not noticeable either way
Whilst the food was good my husband and I thought the service was apalling. As a fine dining restaurant (which of course is not cheap) we expect the service to be commensurate with this level. Instead, it was very ordinary. It's attention to the smaller things that really make the experience (eg having ordered the most expensive wine on the menu we expected the wait staff to at least pour it for us when they were at our table -not so. A dirty wine glass was taken off the table and then a new one was re-turned even though we had ordered champagne and clearlly didn't need it anymore etc etc). I hope this doesn't sound like "nit picking" as its really the overall standard of service that was below par so its difficult to be specific without sounding mean (and I only wish to be constructive). We felt the kitchen was let down by the ordinary level of service , felt like they were students- seems to be a consistent problem in Townsville resteraunts - such a shame!
Overall the meal was OK, but my main course, a steak with house chips was very disappointing. The steak was very tough, so tough that I had dents in my fingers from the knife and fork. The chips were not at all crisp. The bread, the oyster and dessert were all very nice.
Michels is normally a favourite of mine. I was there only a few months ago and the food was outstanding.
This time I was met with a smaller menu (no big deal). I ordered the steak and Bouillabaise.
The steak was cooked medium-rare, but my knife could not cut through it! and it was a steak knife! waitress switched my knife to a regular knife and I could cut through it, but it was dry, even though it was rare. The pumpkin sauce was not pleasant. The waitress was not interested in how our meal went, after that point. I think she was too scared to ask.
The bouillabaise was not cooked to its usual standard. Both meals were almost $50 a dish.
Very, very, disappointed as Michels is regarded by myself and friends, as one if the best places to dine in Townsville.
I believe they have lost their chef. I will not be returning any time soon.
Lovely dining experience... the service was wonderful, food delicious, would definitely go back.
Unreal food as always! Favourite spot to go out too, and staff would bend over backwards for you
Iam sorry to have to tell you three of the four of us were unwell later that evening. I was the only one who escaped the severe stomach upset. We all ordered the same except I had oysters instead of the pork belly.
We are a young couple that enjoy good food and value professional service. The restaurant has a great admosphere and presentation. The organisation is good as well, they called to confirm our booking made online, sent us the set menu and had our table and booking ready for the new years eve dinner. On the down side the food was dissapointing and the service lacked supervision. We ordered from the nye set menu and we shared the entree and the dessert. The portion size was good but the fish my partner ordered was pink raw in the middle and my zucchini was too hot, it was supposed to be mild. Too much chilli. The waitress did not meal check us to pick on this issues so we eate what we could and leave the rest. The waitress didn't clear all used cutlery either or finished glasses. We ordered a beer to the floor manager when she came around and it was never put through. We had to order it again later to another waitress. They never offered a response or any compensation when I let the waitress know about the food faults. Dessert was a sticky date pudding with a orange citruss sorvet icecream on top which to my taste did not match the warmth of the pudding and overtook the flavour too much. There was no caramel sauce but instead a swirl of caramel that we find to sugary. Overall ambience was great, food could be better and service needs to raise their standards a bit. A follow up goes a long way and we could have had an amazing night with the right waitress.
Good experience overall. Towards then end of the evening the service lagged a little and we stopped getting attention from the waiters hence a little less on the service score but this was generally still understandable considering that it was getting fairly late (around 9-10pm)
Service was fantastic but unfortunately the wife's bug tortellini had shell in it so wasn't overly appetising
Was a pleasant surprise. We will definitely return. Excellent wine list & great food accompanied by wonderful service.
Nice customer service, amazing food and good atmosphere.
