Mesob Ethiopian Restaurant and Bar Northcote
Come and discover the charm of Ethiopia and MESOB.
We had a wonderful night. The food was delicious and interesting. It's fun to have a night out eating with our fingers! The only warning I would give anyone going there is that it's not necessarily the best place for people with hearing difficulties because it's quite loud. Generally this just adds to the atmosphere but it was difficult for one of our party who does have a hearing difficulty. Luckily, the quality of the place, the service and the food meant that she has an enjoyable night anyway. Thank you Mesob people!
Great food and friendly attentive staff.
If your coeliac check this place out! Lots of options.
Wonderful experience we will be back. The good was delicious and the atmosphere was fun.
Always an incredible experience at Mesob. Food is amazing, staff are friendly and inviting. A true standouts along High Street.
Great food and service. Love the spicing in the good. Would highly recommend.
My boyfriend and I have been wanting to go here since we heard about it last year, but had to wait because they closed over Christmas and New Years.
We are so glad we followed through, the staff were so nice, our food was amazing and it was a truely great experience, eating traditionally how they would in Ethiopia, the music, the vibe, we are already planning to go back again.
A great alternative to the “regular” way of dinning out. The share platter was well portioned, very tasty and good value. Friendly and excellent service.
Tasty and different!
We ordered a share plate, value for money and delicious!
Very crammed and a little disorganised, It was suggested we try the Omnivore combination platter, very little food but lots of bread, if I was to go back I’d order entrees and mains.
The most incredible traditional Ethiopian food! Huge portions, wonderful staff and an overall amazing vibe. Cannot wait to go again!
Such a great place - we had the vegetarian platter (can easily be made vegan) and absolutely loved it! Highly recommend.
Wonderful food especially for a coeliac. Also sell GF beer.
Very warm people.
Ate way too much
The food and staff were very polite and very helpful. They chose to bring snacks for our child who wasnot sure of the cuisine and were very encouraging to him to try new things. Definitely a great experience and we loved all our food.
Great experience, something completely different but really fun. Amazing flavours and eating with my hands really put me outside my comfort zone, but it was fun too. Highly recommend Mesob
Cool experience. You eat with your hands which was different and a great way to experience the culture. Food was delcious, we had the share platter.
I’ve been to Meob a handful of times and it never disappoints. The staff are lovely and at times distracted but this didn’t dampen our meal. In fact I come from interstate and as my partner says “to the country” to eat here. It was a catch up with great friends so the communal platter is best for this occasion. I’ll be back.
Beautiful spicy food, friendly staff. Interesting atmosphere. I really liked that sour bread - very unique and the perfect balance to the hot beef dish I had.
Lovely staff and the food is honestly heavenly. Will definitely have come back to try everything else!
We had a lovely time introducing my father to Ethiopian food. Delicious food and a fun and interesting culinary experience. Thank you!
I ate at this restaurant a couple of years ago and remembered how fantastic the food was, so I decided to give it another try on a recent visit to Melbourne. We were ten minutes late, but I called the restaurant and they were happy to hold the table despite how obviously busy they were. Since the last time I was in Melbourne, I have was diagnosed with coeliac disease. The restaurant completely understood my allergy requirements and were able to cater for me nonetheless. They made me a gluten free equivalent. And it was DELICIOUS!!! Everyone else at the table also enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I cant remember the name of the dish I had but it was the Ethiopian bread on a platter with various toppings you eat with the bread and your hands. Highly recommended! Mesob! Come open a restaurant in Canberra!!
The most amazing food experience for such a great price! A great place to go with a group of friends!
Very tasty food, great range on the menu ...we chose the $26 pp platter to get a taste of several different things...service great....would go again.
So delicious and great value for money! Highly recommend.
Went here for a birthday dinner, food was amazing and I loved the sharing platters, we tried the mixed veg and meat one. We had a table at the back and it was kind of hard to talk to everyone (table of 9) because it was a long table but service was very friendly and accomodating.
Always really impressed with this restaurant. We usually go for one of the shared platters which provides a range of different dishes, with something for everyone. It also means there is a variety in the spice levels - meaning everyone can access something. Overall the food is great, the service is friendly, and the cost quite reasonable.
Nice food and abundance for the money you paid for. Service is quick. The venue is a bit small
Well. my table was ready. The wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and the drinks reasonable. I had a really good meal, and enjoyed myself. The decor is themed nicely. A gem.
Overall the experience was very positive. I didn’t like the wine but it was my choice and I didn’t mention it.
Mesob is probably my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. The food is just delicious and they have a great range of both meaty and vegetarian options. I highly recommend the Kaye Wot, and for vegetarians my partner recommends the Shiro. The traditional Ethiopian style of serving the food with big Injera bread is wonderful. There's nothing like tearing of a bit of the soft flat bread and picking up a nice spicy chunk of meat with it. This is a great place and a great experience, you will not regret eating here.
Delicious food and great atmosphere! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a dining experience that is unique.
Mesob is very popular - so popular we had the table at the back next to the toilets. Anyway, we ordered quickly as we had kids - entree of dips and then a share platter for main. Share platter arrived quickly, but dips nowhere to be seen? Interestingly the table next to us also didn’t get their entree. The food was nice, and kids had fun eating with their hands and trying new flavours. A couple of curries were too spicy for them though.
Absolutely delicious. Will go back for sure. The staff and gorgeous and the food was amazing
Our entire Mesob experience was superb, especially the very attentive wait staff and the food itself. We will certainly be back at Mesob to try more of their beautiful Ethopian cuisine.
We have told everyone about the lovely meal and wonderful experience at Mesob! Will go back soon.
Very authentic and delicious Ethiopian cuisine! Highly recommend.
I’ve been here a few times and the first time it was magnificent! The second time was average - the meat in the in both curries was so tough it was inedible. Service was slow but not too bad. I don’t think I’d return for a while. I was craving the delicious beef curry before I got there and when I had it I didn’t want it.
I’m not sure if it was just the night we ate there, but the meat was really tough and difficult to eat. Everything else was lovely. I will try again, but this time with vegetarian. Not sure I could recommend it yet.
Had the platter for 2 with my boyfriend, it was delicious. The atmosphere was really funky. Enjoyed our time there.
Delicious food and really nice staff, they had no issues splitting the bill. I’ll definitely go back there
We loved Mesob and will definitely return for a repeat performance. Delectable exotic food in a wonderful atmospheric surrounding with friendly and accommodating staff. A must-try!
