Melbourne Public, located on Melbourne's bustling South Wharf, is a wonderful gathering space for enjoying elevated pub fare in its rustic and contemporary restaurant. The chili mussels with grilled Turkish bread in a chorizo and tomato broth and the spicy chicken wings served with herb mayo are fun to share and completely delicious starter options. Some of Melbourne PublicÔs larger dishes include the juicy grilled porterhouse steak slathered in garlic butter, the prosciutto-wrapped chicken breast with romesco sauce and the king prawns risotto with creamy mascarpone and fresh herbs, all of which can be complemented with a draft beer, like Japan's Asahi super dry or the local Mountain Goat summer ale.
If you have a chance, enjoy your meal on the beautiful outdoor terrace. For a sweet end to your experience, dig into Melbourne Public's sticky date pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.

Food was terrible. Salmon was dry and overcooked, and the potato rosti tasted like rubber. My partner had the steak and asked medium rare, and again that was overcooked.
Found this great pub, just steps from the convention center. On a Tuesday night, very quiet. On the outdoor patio, there were heaters to keep customers warm as they chatted with friends over a beer. We chose to sit in the dining room. Dinner special of the day - fresh tuna - awesome. The Greek Salad perfect size to accompany my steak sandwich. Cold Cricketeers beer and dumplings to start. Service was excellent too. Great place, just go!
Thanks for a great night. Good service and yummy food. Would recommend!
Staff were helpful and friendly. Great venue with room to move.
We are a family of Coeliacs, 5 of us suffer. My brother who is very sensitive has never been sick from the food. We had a great time stayed until last song by the band, danced, had great wine and staff held last bottle for us.
It was for my Brother and my Birthdays and we all had a great time. My sisters and my Brother, Nieces, Partners all danced.
Thanks so much- will be back again.
Dining area is lovely, service was friendly and prompt and the burgers were delicious!
A great venue. The service was first-class, and we were able to pay separately with no dramas. I will be going back!
Nicely decorated place, lots of space, good quality food. Great for families.
Great venue. Staff friendly. Food good. Will definitely visit again.
I didn't realise that Melbourne Public had live entertainment at night as we had only eaten lunch there before. As we were going to the comedy festival and a group of 6, we wanted to book somewhere for dinner so we didn't walk around aimlessly trying to find somewhere late on a Friday night. It was disconcertingly when we walked in due to the band and the amount of drinkers in the bar. However the staff were extremely friendly and although we were the only people in the restaurant section, service was great, the food was good and all promptly served. We also really enjoyed the live music backdrop as while it was loud, we could still have a conversation at the table.
Lovely lunch with staff and the food was very tasty!!!
Overall an excellent lunch with family & friends... only one small spoiler.
When we went to pay, the male waiter was quite happy to allow us to split the payment, but a female staff member with an attitude intervened & insisted that it was "a rule" that we could not split the bill.
There was only a few other people in the dining room & we only wanted to make two separate payments... not seven, so it wasn't really going to create a major drama, but her manner was quite abrupt & rude.
She then proceded to split the bill like she was doing us an enormous favour & made a big deal out of not being able to identify which meal was which.
Small things like this can spoil the whole experience, so perhaps some customer service training wouldn't go astray for certain members of staff!
Fantastic place for a catch up with friends for a drink.
Always a good feed. Food yummy and prompt. Staff very friendly. Will be back again :-)
A great location for nearby events at Convention center. Was extremely busy and they did well to serve everyone .
Food was good pub fare. Cocktails were okay. I would come back and recommend this place when it’s quieter less busy
Love happy hour keep those drinks coming great way to chill and unwind lovely staff members very helpful great meals never disappointed Always a lovely experience
Good service but saganaki was very tough, when it shouldn’t have been. Not good value for money. Also, my steak was cooked medium when I wanted medium to well. Service was good though.
We were not told that we would only be able to use the bar menu. Apparently in the first week in January, the full menu is not available. It was not crowded but it took very long to receive our food and the service was spotty.
Great live band to sing along or dance to on Sat night
The band was fantastic and finished up a great night out with friends without having to change location
Great night out for my wife’s 50th. Food was awesome, the staff were great. Bonus was the live band we could dance to rocking into the wee hours.
Came here for the $1 oysters happy hour and was not disappointed. Service was great especially with how busy they were. Would definitely come again.
Had an awesome time, the music was really good, food was decent, bar service was pretty good too!
Good food and selection of beers and wine.
Plenty of room so you don’t feel like you are sitting on top of other diners.
Unfortunately the young guy serving behind the bat was totally clueless.
Great food, and table service perfect my is a Chef and want to book again love it thank you to everyone
Went here for dinner, where we thought we could sit and watch the footy. We could watch, but not hear. I thought this was more like a sports bar restaurant, but the music certainly took front stage. It wasn't a huge issue as everything was nice - I just got it wrong this time.
Lovely setting and great staff. My partner and I went in for dinner and had an awesome time. There chips are the best I’ve ever had aswell
Was a combination of friends catch up and birthday lunch. Menu accommodated everybody's tastes and special requests for allergies etc were no problem. Food was good, service was friendly and efficient. Bonus was the cocktails - a very tasty espresso martini and margarita (in theory very basic cocktails but in practice hard to find good ones, these were very good)
Unfortunately our order was messed up and one of our meals was forgotten, 2 of our meals were cold and sent back. What i would say is the staff on the floor handled this mix up very well and were very apologetic. However even once we got our meals the food was overall very dissapointing
Meal was very nice and the staff were excellent and very capable but the noise in the building was almost too loud to talk over
The staff were very accommodating to our large group, and were more than happy to bring out meals at different stages as late comers arrived. We weren't able to split the bill but staff were patient as we counted out our cash.
Despite discussing this event with management prior to Saturday evening my guests were poorly treated by the manager. I am appalled at the lack of customer service.. tone and mannerism displayed. Distrespectful to say the least! Not acceptable Melbourne Public
I always go there with friends. Nice staff and environment. Salt&pepper calamari are my favorite. One is never enough. 10/10.
Nothing was too much trouble and the staff made the occasion easy and were attentive so we could spend time with each other
Fantastic restaurant. From the moment we entered I loved it. They were having a 90s night so the music was great! The staff were friendly and we received our drinks very quickly.
The food was delicious and served quickly also. The ambience was great. A lovely place
Great, relaxing atmosphere and friendly service. Varied menu at reasonable prices. Recommended for a quiet dinner or a special celebration ✌️
Great ambience and food, casual atmosphere and good table service for food and drinks. A little rushed at the end of the night for another booking, however a great place to sit, chat and take in the night life and scenery.
Was a very overdue catch up with family.
Food and service was amazing. The waiter even remembered us from the night before and knew what we were drinking!
Definitely value for money
When we arrived the staff greeted us with smiles and were very friendly. Through out our stay they were very attentive and ensured we had everything we required. the food was served hot and was delicious.
Would definitely return in the future
300g scotch steak defiantly not worth $38. Steak was tough, very small and wouldn't have been 300g. Creamy mushroom sauce tasted like melted butter with mushrooms mixed thru. Antipasto was also a let down, 4 super thin slices of salami and prosciutto accompanied with some crusty bread, relish and cornichons for $22... was nothing special.
