Yes, we would normally recommend them, but not for when there is music!
We've dined with McLoone's Boathouse regularly since it has first opened its doors. The food & service have always been TOPS for us. But what prompted our low overall rating for this visit were two things.
1) We have not been there on a weekend night (Friday or Saturday) so this was our first experience to be there when there is live music, unless they can be seated in the private section. We deliberately made reservations for the earliest seating, since we were celebrating Veterans Day weekend with a couple from our church. The band was superb but their volume was just right for a full room, but far too LOUD for the size crowd who actually stayed for the music. As soon as the music started, the place emptied out, because it was so loud NO ONE could carry on a conversation at all! As the private half was reserved for a private event, there was NO PLACE to find an area at all to talk or be heard over the band, anywhere in the rest of the building! The music was top quality, but far too loud for the reasons we met our friends for. Our server apologized but told us that nothing could be done about our complaint. And normally, the fact that the band started half an hour early would be a bonus, but the second half of our dinner visit ruined the evening for us.
2) I have always been unhappy that gratuities cold not be added to our Gift Card use. Throughout my dual careers, I have NEVER encountered this problem at ANY restaurant anywhere in the WORLD that has this policy! Our server told us that there are no exceptions permitted, despite that it has always been a common complaint, but that management refuses to accept this feedback. Well, as much as we love McLoone's, it is not the only game in town. Unless the management position on this bit of feedback changes, we can easily take our business elsewhere, where feedback is respected and gladly accepted.
The hostess was very friendly, the food was amazing, and the service was OK.
My first try at often praised McLoone restaurants. Went for geographic location, thinking ok finally will try this, taking my adult daughter and her boyfriend who were heading into NYC after. The reviews were so up and down on Open Table, but I had heard good things years ago. All 3 of us LOVED it. Roaring fire welcomed us at front door on the first really cold night of Fall, then we were seated next to another fireplace by a window overlooking lake (although really too dark outside for us to appreciate.). We were there Mid-week and bar area was full and lively, dining room offshoot area not full, so easy to converse, and the tables were seated spaced apart, rather than on top of each other. Friendly, energetic and diligent service, cloying or annoying. Two had filet and literally cleaned their plates, saying delicious. I had salmon. Perfectly cooked served with interesting cabbage and fingerling potatoes in scrumptious lemony butter sauce. Was SO GOOD. Generous portion, could not finish. Not an inexpensive option, but we will be back and will look forward to trying others down the shore. A great night, and it would be a fantastic location for their patio dining in warmer weather, too.
Donny our service waiter was attentive and provided outstanding service. The receptionist was friendly and provided a requested table. Lovely decor and views of the lake. Easy access to the lake's walkway for a stroll after lunch. Food was good and reasonably priced. First time visitor..Will definitely return.
This was my first time back in the last 4 years. Last time coming here. There used to be a standard McLoone had. Unfortunately they lost it throughout the years.
Having my daughters bridal shower there in January
Wonderful place to have a business lunch
everything was amazing, food, views, ambiance... with the exception of the server, she kept dissapearing, but overall she was nice!
Overall we had a good experience at McLoone's. The food was very good and the service, especially our waitress, Brandi, was outstanding. She was attentive, helpful, professional and very pleasant.
Went for lunch on Sunday, food was so so, n ot worth the cost and service slow.
The service was terrible, and the food was average. We had several complaints, but the manager was very apologetic and made sure that our complaints were heard. Thank you, Colin. . We will give it another try in the future.
Really need to train staff on customer service. Had to wait, even with reservation. No one to take our order, no response to an inquiry about an item on menu, and 45 minutes to deliver food to table.
Love sitting in the bar area with the beautiful fireplace and view of the lake.
Food is great but service was poor
This place really needs an overhaul. Ambience is less than desirable. While food was pretty good service was pretty lacking. Our waitress was in the weeds and really didn’t know the menu that well. Overall not a great experience. Would not come here again
I recommend only for
Ambience, food was bland, deserts were old tasting, service was okay and the wait staff all friendly but it was a busy Saturday night. Nice place
To go to relax in terms of scenery, I wouldn’t go there hungry, but on a nice summer day I’d order a drink and some fries
The food is not 5 star quality at all...overpriced for the meal provided. Low end items are adequate. Many people feel the same way. Not impressed.
Sunday brunch. Lovely good variety. A little pricey. But includes 1 mimosa per brunch. Outdoor seating
The buffet was overpriced for the food they offered . The buffet is not worth the price the selection was poor and the quality was just ok you def could go elsewhere for the price .
Our waiter was excellent!! Very good food and service!
Rachel our waitperson was amazing and she made the experience (already good due to delicious food) even better with her sparkle!
It’s a beautiful restaurant but the food was sub par. Everything “hot” on the buffet was cold. They could start with heating the plates the restaurant and spot on the lake is beautiful. It’s a shame the food doesn’t equate
Place has a great feel! Always good food and great service! Definitely try it out!
Service was quick and great, ambience was excellent, very family friendly, lots of people there that night celebrating birthdays. Our family normally orders all seafood appetizers and entrees, so can’t comment on the meat dishes and desserts. Seafood tower was fresh and on par but expensive, others (crab cake, mahi, bronzini, lobster roll) were just okay, a bit overcooked of all the fish dishes including appetizers. If you love seafood like us, order the raw dishes. Food portions were very large, so keep that in mind, don’t order too much.
We recently got engaged and came to bring both set of parents to meet and discuss the wedding. The variety of food was perfect for everyone who all had different dietary restrictions. The food was excellent. The place is beautiful. But it was a little harder to talk cause as the night went on it got noisier. Overall it was great and would definitely return with friends.
Portions size to price was very good. Food quality was average.
The atmosphere is beautiful and the service is good. Servers were friendly but seemed a little inexperienced. Food was good but not outstanding. Overall a pleasant dinner.
Food was decent; nothing exceptional. Mahi portion was a tad small for the price.
There was live music and the guy was really good. Just a guitar and cover songs. But...why does the sound need to be soooo loud. People are not there for a concert. We shouldn’t have to leave bc we couldn’t hear each other across the table.
nice view if outdoor, walk by the lake and come in to the restaurant, good atmosphere!
Beautiful venue but the overhead music with the high ceilings makes it difficult to hear others. Plus the music was 80s pop and annoying. Food was solid but could have come to table hotter as it was a slow sunday afternoon. Front desk and servers were all friendly, personable and very helpful. Stick to basic foods here -- burgers, crab cake, calamari and crispy brussel sprouts were favorites!
I enjoyed the brunch the food was delicious and the ambience was Beautiful it was very inviting and spacious.
As always the brunch is phenomenal. They have a great variety and tons of seafood options.
Food and atmosphere were great. Service was terribly slow. We had to get up to go find a server to order and get the check. Both times a large group of servers were standing around inside talking among themselves instead of watching the tables. Disappointing.
Service was weak. Waitress forgot broccoli. Also bread ....had to track her down to pay check. Way below par from other visits. Below average
We were looking forward to having a nice relaxing dinner outside on the patio. We arrived at 5:30 pm and asked to sit on patio...there were many empty tables. The hostess were lovely, asked us to wait few minutes till they put 2 tables together. There were 4 adults, a toddler and a 1 year old. We were seated at a table over by the outdoor bar area in the direct sunlight. There was an umbrella on one of the tables that was shading the bushes behind the table. All seats at table were in bright sun! I asked if we could be moved to the nice shady part of the patio and was told that there was no server in that area yet. I requested another umbrella but she said they don't fit when 2 tables are together. We sat down and when the waiter came, I asked if one of the movable umbrellas could be moved from the bar area to block the sun on our table. There was plenty of shade in the bar area and the umbrellas were hanging over shady areas. I was told there was a policy of not moving the umbrellas out of the bar area. It was ridiculous. The sun was right in our eyes. We should have left at that point but to put the children back in car seats and go to another restaurant was just too much. It was so uncomfortable and the food was mediocre. The waiter was polite, but refused to ask the manager to make an exception and move the umbrella! The food is definitely not worth the very high prices they charge. Such a shame that such a beautiful venue has such poor service and food!
Worst experience even. Service was unacceptable for a meal that costed us over $100. Will NOT recommend others to come here. I’ve had better meals of similar types in other places
We always enjoy our time at McLoone's Boat House, whether for lunch, dinner, or just drinks on the patio. We come for the energetic vibe and the view of the water (reservoir). We've celebrated many graduations here and will hopefully celebrate many more. It's nice to stroll along the reservoir before or after dinner/lunch/drinks. I usually order the fish tacos for lunch but I've recently had the ragu pasta, which was delicious.
Food was mediocre. The outside music was so loud and bad we moved inside. Th outside light was flickering. The out side waitress was overwhelmed, service slow.
The inside waitress, Hayla was amazing. Excellent service prompt, very nice I would try this restaurant again if she was my waitress.
Bread dip excellent, Mussels OK, fries not up to par for Moules-frites. Oysters good.
McLoone's probably not a repeat.
Brunch buffet was outstanding- food was fresh and well made. They were slow in replenishing the items nearly emptied like the watermelon French toast Chicken Francaise — would recommend thus as a lovely place to eat especially if weather permits outside lakefront dining
