   The service and food were great. Tables are close together so it can be quite loud. The restroom was filthy. The floor was sticky, no soap or towels to wash your hands. I hope the kitchen is cleaner. It’s one of my favorite places but expected more cleanliness after a pandemic.

    I ordered the gluten free fried chicken and ordered and extra leg. The leg was very small and the overall chicken was a little overdone. The waitress was nice but I had to wait till there was no ice or water in my water glass. Slightly less than what I usually expect at Max’s

    I made last minute reservations after my original selection gave less than desirable service. The manager assured me that they would be more than happy to accommodate my small party of 6. The manager had water ready when we walked in because I explained the other venue made us stand outside in the heat waiting on our table. Our server was amazing and accommodating. The food is always amazing as well as the wine of course!

    The food wasn’t exactly soul food from the perspective of someone who grew up in southern Virginia. Southern Mac and Cheese is always baked with multiple layers of cheese. While the chicken breast I had was good the wings were not cooked fully through. We visited the restaurant based on OpenTable reviews but unfortunately was a little disappointed. We left before even ordering desert to celebrate the birthday honoree.

    When I walked in the manager had to tell someone to greet me. I told the greeter I was there to meet some people but they weren’t here yet. I asked to be seated, she said she wasn’t the hostess. I didn’t have to wait long, I already had a reservation. I came to the table and my waiter brought out water right away. Christian was very attentive. Once the rest of the party arrived Christian came right away and took our drink order and appetizers. The drinks and food was delicious. Overall the experience was nice, but it would be good to get the specialty dining experience I once knew Max’s to have. It was more of a laid back vibe than a nice wine dive.

    Its been quite awhile since I've tried Max's again after being disappointed in their menu and service changes. I has their classic fried chicken and collard greens and it was delicious. I haven't had a great meal at Max's in such a long time (good but not great) today it was great. The Chef must have changed. Whatever has changed thank you. Also could you consider bringing your red velvet pancakes back 😋

    We sat outside and asked our waitress to move indoors as it was over 100degrees and outside fan wasn’t working. She said no available seats indoors for a table or at the bar. we went in to check and there were at least 6 open bar seats and 4 open regulars tables. Not sure why she lied, but pretty disappointing.

    Normally love this place but was disappointed on this visit. Sat at the bar and our bartender was very inattentive. He was focused on a few young ladies and had to be redirected by manager to attend to the rest of us. Food and rest of staff were great.

    Unfortunately, 3 staff members didn't show up for their shift and the staff that was working were all new. I actually felt really bad for my server because he was still learning and it didn't appear that he was getting help from the manager as he was being pulled every where. The AC didn't appear to be at full capacity because everyone in my group and other tables were sweating, but it was the hottest day of the year too. Two tables got up and left because no one one brought water or went to their table. The food was good once we received it, that took an hour. I really just felt bad for the team.

    Our server, Luis was super attentive, polite, kind and conscientious about serving us. The fried deviled eggs were my favorite. The friend chicken was a bit on the over fried side but it was still very delicious. We will definitely come back to try their other menu entrees and appetizers.

    Our very inexperienced waiter kept running off without taking everyone’s order at the table, and there were only four of us! First with the drinks, then with the food orders. One person in our party did not get his food with the rest of us. We could not get anyones attention, so our friend walked over to the manager to tell him he had no food. We were all almost finished with our food by the time it arrived. They said they would not charge us for that meal, but in checking our bill, we discovered they had added two extra drinks and two extra entrees to our total! Again, we had to get up and ask for help because no one was checking on us. The manager was barely apologetic, just shrugged and said it was the waiters first day. This was a Saturday night, but the restaurant was only half full. We won’t be back.

    Our server forgot multiple items over and over. Took 25 minutes to get a bottle of wine opened and brought to the table. They said it had to be decanted but it just had cork in it and they strained it through a coffee filter

    this isn't my first time dining at this resturant, its actually my first pick. the food is excellent as always. the collard greens and chicken was definitely taught to the chef from someone living in the south. I always recommend this placed the staff even though has changed often has always been great. if you are in the houston area I reccomend this as a great dining choice, on fairview.

    Let me start by saying the service provided by the staff was great. They were all extremely attentive and we had 4-5 people coming by and checking in on us. So great! We had the gluten free deep fried deviled eggs (the aioli is wonderful), and one gluten free southern deep friend chicken and one regular. Both were fantastic. The batter was crisp and flavorful, the hot sauce and the hot honey they provided were excellent pairings. Highly recommend trying both. The mashed potatoes and collard greens they come with are tasty and will easily distract you from the delightful chicken. Highly recommend this place for GF fried chicken, we’re definitely going to be regulars 😋 The only downside, you MUST valet your car for $10, bring cash.
