A contemporary venue with impeccable service and food. Perfect for a date or celebration or to treat yo’ self. We loved the menu and the ambiance.
Great service. Food was good and the kids loved their easter egg chocolate milks.
I didn't love my brekkie but that was more of a personal thing because I would have enjoyed that more for lunch! Overall definitely recommend this restaurant above most others in the Ville.
5 stars for having a go at creative and original food. However the degustation was overpriced and underwhelming. Was almost hungry after 5 courses. Good quality food but too stingy and not all the dishes were successful - overcooked salmon, tiny morsel of duck in the arancini ball
Great atmosphere, wonderful food and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
We tried the 7 course degustation. Most of the meals were excellent. Difficult to hear each other at times as the noise levels got louder- we sat next to a table of 18.
Food and beverage on point and the service was exceptional
Fantastic food. A selection of good wines by the glass. The degustation menu structure was very good. The wine matches we interesting. Service was friendly and good.
The table was too wide to hear across to my mate with the ambient noise level. We were under an aircon unit and we were uncomfortably cold.
The 80’s decor didn’t do it for us.
Overall we had fun night but not sure about going back? With wine and desert the bill was $212 for two. The Bridgewater is better value overall and has an ambiance that we prefer.
The only choice for the dinner menu is a 3,5 or 7 course degustation, two of the main dishes were not available so everyone on our table had to reorder as staff did not advise of the ordering issue. Staff were confused and offered the same meals to multiple diners and then asked them to recount what meal they were waiting on?
Overall the food was average for the price and the beef pate inedible.
Very disappointed as we had a large booking following recommendations from a close friend, I would not recommend this venue.
Lovely and has been consistently. Each time we go there's a new something to try, worth it for time, quality and price.
The new menu is limited to a lot of vegetarian and seafood options which is disappointing for meat lovers and doesn’t allow for a wide selection especially when the meals are 3-7 courses.
The food was incredible, the best eggs I’ve had anywhere. Coffee was very strong but not bitter. I think food delivery could have been improved in a more consistent way instead of staggered breakfast and drinks coming after food. It was however a good experience. I would definitely dine again.
Careful when ordering the chefs selection 7 course set degustation, it is ONLY 6 courses. They will claim that a palate cleanser is a course.
Recommend going for a degustation where you can actually pick your courses and not get ripped off.
Absolutely amazing experience! Great place for special occasions.
Beautiful and unique place for fine dining in Townsville. The service, food and drinks were outstanding. My only feedback is it took a fair while to receive a few of our next courses but aside from that, I would highly recommend!
The degustation choices were interesting with something to please everyone. Some impressive cocktails were being served and a quality range of wines on the menu to choose from. We felt a bit rushed at the end of our meal to pay and pack up but that could have just been the efficient wait staff wanting to finalise the bill.
Really good breakfast and coffee at a reasonable price with very good friendly service
Valentines Day -When we got there the staff advised us of a new order and pay system they had. I had to pay with cash so therefore went up to the front to pay. This place really isn't equipped to handle cash as the staff member had to open a draw, move some items to get to the till tray. Half hour later coffee still hadnt arrived I asked a waitress if it would be much longer it turns out they lost our order. Took an hour before our meals came out and we were there for breakfast so toast and eggs shouldn't take that long. Food was good, coffee was great when it finally came out staff were polite and friendly. Restaurant itself very clean.
We had the most delicious breakfast, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming 💞
Loved it!! Food was next level - different and delicious!! Will be back to try the rest of the menu
We went for breakfast at Matte Black Violet and it was delicious. My partner had the waffles and I had the bacon and eggs and both were delicious. And the gingerbread flavoured coffees were delicious and different! We will definitely come for breakfast again soon.
The coffee was a little on the weak side for the size cup(mug), very pretty but yeah no...Fried Chicken Benny: good flavour but chicken was overcooked and crumb to chicken ratio was a little too high...I am paying for chicken not seasoned flour...I think one egg on an eggs Benedict is being a little bit tight especially for $18-19.
The salmon in the Jenga was amazing, dish as a whole is unbalanced, (needed a little sweetness), I was expecting actual tortillas (unlevened bread) not corn chip or taco or what ever that was...but hey I get what they were trying to achieve. I would go back to try the Dinner Menu, but breakfast/coffee ...no.
Have had breakfast at MBV twice now and it didn’t disappoint either time.
Menu is limited but what you receive is delicious and very filling.
Great coffee too.
Food was amazing as was the service! Highly recommend!
Great place to wine and dine! The food was amazing! We will be back :)
Amazing food, service and vibe. We a loved every minute!
Excellent venue, great service & vibe. Cocktails are amazing.
Great experience. So lovely to see properly trained staff. Rare in 98% of restaurants in Townsville.
Great food. Portions not as small as we expected. Terribly full!! Thank you for a lovely evening. Highly recommended.
Fantastic food. Service was attentive. Fantastic addition to food scene. Can see why friends recommended it to us. We can only agree, highly recommend
We enjoyed the entire night - the cocktails were on point and the bartender was very cool.
The staff were very friendly and were not over the top in coming to the table. The food came out at perfect time and the atmosphere was very relaxed and sultry.
The food was beautifully presented and very tasty, so the only negative things I could say is the meals were too small - more in the sense that they missing the addition of vegetables of some kind or something other than just the beef or just prawns. Even for someone who is not a big eater, it wasn’t enough for me.
And the price was more than what i feel the food was worth.
Was really nice, liked the food and cocktails, I would come back and recommend to friends and family.
It's hit or miss. Some dishes were excellent and some were ok. Cool concept. Staff was very friendly but food between 1 course took an hour. That's too long. I totally understand that this happens, especially with all the dishes the chef needs to prepare, but they should offer guests something as an apology. Small chef surprise or a drink. Something. We spent $380 for 3 of us here.
Amazingly variable food, from excellent to awful in 6 plates. No quality control. Menu read better than the results for 4 of our 6 plates.
Service was brisk, efficient and uncaring,
Male toilet was filthy and disgusting. Not handicapped accessible.
Wine and cocktail pairings are extremely bad value. Order off the menu, don't have pairings as the slightly cheaper wine pairings are only 1/2 pours. $10 a half-pour for average Australian wines. Cocktails were great but tiny. No discount buying them as pairings.
A restaurant without the consistent quality to charge what they are charging. Should be 1/2 the price they charge. Would definitely fail in any Australian capital city at this price.
Lovely food, great atmosphere! Service was great - looking fwd to returning! :)
Nice setting, great service and food. Menu was different to standard restaurant but very good.
The food lacked taste, I had the dumplings, the pork was dry, dumping tough, sauce salty. I also had the beef, one piece with nice charring but the rest was like eating a sponge full of dish water, the mushroom was good, sauce was too spread out and didn't help taste, everything else seemed dry and pointless. The chocolate cake was a large serving considering other serves, but it tasted burned and lacked enough to break up the endless chocolate. The honeycomb was barely crunchy and some was just soft. And for $70 per person I felt like I had been taken for a ride. The wine was good, but the price was steep. I had plenty of people say the food was more about the look than the taste, I'm not sure that the look was all that, but it certainly had more care and attention than the taste. Sorry but I would rather give you something to improve than blow the wind up and have you disappoint more customers.
This was the second time we have been for dinner and we left disappointed
The food wasn’t as good I found a fish scale in one of my dishes and the service was lacking people around us was being served before us and finishing before us even though we arrived first.
I noticed the staff were too busy chatting instead of looking after the clients.
The new degistation menu is amazing. Matte Black Violet provide amazing food and service.
Cocktails were great. Two of our six meals were fair. The order four were poor to say the least. The beef dishes were terrible with tough meat, don’t know why they chose the cut of meat they did. It was cooked rare as intended but still terrible, I think it was just terrible quality meat and chef was set up for failure. We had a few bites and didn’t even bother eating it, The desserts were ordinary. The presentation was amateur. The staff were polite and tried hard but not up to the standard of somewhere that attempts to be fine dining. I applaud the concept and this type of restaurant is more of what Townsville needs, but when you charge a premium and go for the menu format / fine dining portion sizing like this place, you have to get it right, or it ends up being very very wrong, like it was for us. Unfortunately, this place misses the mark by a lot. I won’t be eating there again.
Great atmosphere, attentive service and delicious food.
No i do not want to spend time on this 11111111111111111
