Matilda Bay Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
It was easy to arrange a booking, which was a big plus. The service was excellent. as was the food. The view of the Swan provided a pleasurable backdrop. My wife and I used to frequent this Matilda during the 1960 - 1970's and it was great then and it is great now.
Matila Bay was once one of our favourite restaurants. However in recent times we have not always had a good experience. On this occasion (Saturday 22 July 2017) we arrived (party of 4) at 7:15 and our order was taken at 7:30 (so far so good). However our food did not arrive until 9:00pm and this was in spite of several enquiries to the wait staff. The latter were trying really hard but it was apparent that the problem was elsewhere. The kitchen seemed to be under extreme pressure as there were two functions at the restaurant that night. Our food, when it was served , was "ordinary" and really not worth the wait. The manager offered us free deserts in compensation for the delay. We declined this offer and asked for the cost of the desserts to be deducted from the bill - this was agreed. Had this been an isolated incident we could have overlooked it but since it was a second "offence" we feel that management standards have slipped at this establishment. Will not be returning any time soon.
We visit Matilda Bay Restaurant regularly and yesterday's meal was the best we have had there. My husband and I chose the set menu so both had salmon for entree and the chicken for our main. Both were full of flavour and very tasty. Our friend always has oysters natural and said they were very special too.
We took advantage of the winter lunch special and were so impressed with the quality of food for the price. Both of us had the gnocchi for entree, very nice. I had the snapper and my partner had the beef cheek for mains. Again very tasty. The creme brûlée desserts were also delicious. The free glass of house wine was better than I expected.
A special mention for our very attentive waitress, Jemma, who looked after us.
The food was delicious, they take what is usually a standard item and turn it into something bursting with different flavours. The service is good, the wait staff remembered our orders, the plates were warm & even though the restaurant is pricey, it's worth it for a special occasion.
This was a Saturday lunch to celebrate wife's birthday. We were a table of four. The staff service was excellent. Two of the group had fish dishes and thought they were excellent. My wife and I shared a seafood platter ($85) on staff recommendation that the quantity would be sufficient for two. It was not (probably about 1.5). Also the individual items certainly were not fresh and gave the impression of being from cool store. Quite disappointing and not value for money.
Have been coming to Matilda Bay Restaurant for many years, the food and service has always been impeccable. Unfortunately our last experience was a real disappointment. Wait staff did not explain dining options properly. Service was slow, very slow for a 5 star restaurant. One of our main courses was under cooked (snapper fillet) we complained to staff and meal was taken away, diner did not want a replacement meal. Was still charged for meal and had to complain to get charge taken off bill!
The food and service was impeccable. When I booked I noted that it was my husbands birthday and when we had our coffees and we were given a plate with a nice peice of cake with Happy Birthday written in chocolate, such a lovely gesture that made him feel very special. Great food, great servive & great views.
Went there for a birthday dinner, just the 2 of us. Staff were very attentive & friendly. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals- snapper and eye fillet for mains. Deserts were lovely, we had the parfait & the creme brûlée. Will definitely return, this visit was an improvement on our last one which was over 12 months ago.
Had dinner for my son's birthday last night. There was a wedding celebration, noisy as expected but the view from where we were seated was excellent. The food was excellent too and my son enjoyed his birthday dinner. There was also a complimentary birthday piece of cake served. Thank you to all the wonderful staff!
I can't fault Matilda Bay.
This is consistently the best restaurant with regards to food and service quality. It is also one of my favourite places to take people on special occasions because I know we would always enjoy our time there.
Last night, the food was amazing as always. The lamb was so delicious and so was the brûlée.
I am slowly working my way through their menu. So far, everything has been fantastic.
For a restaurant that is usually one of our favourites it was a pretty poor experience. 2 steaks had to be returned due to being over cooked, one came back cooked properly, the other was still over cooked. It was too late to get remade again. Despite saying the bill would be amended appropriately, we were still charged for it.
The waitress had an unfortunate strong B.O. Smell and despite having empty drinks from the start of the mains, we were not offered another, so made do with water
Eight times out of ten we have been happy with Matilda Bay Restaurant. Unfortunately last night (3 May 2017) the food was a disappointment, especially since it was our wedding anniversary. The crispy skin snapper was not crispy and the fish itself was a bit overcooked and thus somewhat rubbery. My wife did not enjoy the contrasting sweet potato sauce and the marinated onion accompaniments. When asked did we enjoy the meal we said no and were not charged for the side of veg. Big Deal!
Waitstaff and service excellent. Fabulous location. We had a drink in the bar facing the river and city views at night with the windows open. We managed to obtain a table at the window with the same outlook. Perfect. Can choose 3 course menu or a la carte. Quality of the food was very good and for a fine dining restaurant the value was excellent
It started out well - great view, nice pre-dinner drinks at the bar. Half loaf bread, 12 natural oysters with nice condiments, asparagus, broccolini & mash - all really nice. Ordered main 350g Northcliffe WA scotch fillet - FAIL!!! Worst we've ever had & wasn't what we ordered - gristly, tough & not scotch fillet as we have it all the time at home & out for dinner. Very disappointing & ruined our wedding anniversary evening celebrations. They refunded us for 1 steak.
What I like about Matilda Bay restaurant is that it has quality food well presented and good sized serves (normally the two don't go hand in hand).
The venue is also special as it is right on the river, in a lovely quiet spot, perfect for a romantic dinner, dimly lit.
