Would recommend this venue. Food was excellent as was the service. The decor was a little tired.

We ate at Matilda Bay Brewhouse on a 40+ degree Saturday, and chose it mostly as all other options were booked out. It was moderately busy, however they appeared well-staffed and we were seated quickly.

Firstly, the ordering and serving of drinks was incredibly inefficient. There was one staff taking orders, and about 7 others making them. Despite all these staff, you were waiting 5-10 minutes just for a beer. I'm assuming this system was created in the interest of covid-safety, however it just meant that a huge clump of people were waiting for drinks well within 1.5m of each other.

The option was available to order food using the QR code on the table, which was a really great idea. The drinks were listed on there as well, however we were told we could only order food. With as many staff as were available, perhaps using the QR code to order drinks and having staff bring them out would have been both more efficient and more covid-safe.

The food was exactly average, the staff were friendly enough, however the experience of standing waiting for 5 or so minutes to order a drink, then another 10 minutes for your beer to be poured meant that I would not recommend this venue to friends.

I chose this place as I thought it was going to be a nice Casual pub dinner. We got there and not a pub at all but we’re seated in The restaurant and only had a 2 or 3 course option (that is not on their website when you go to book ). Fair enough, the four of us decided to stay enough though we were not very hungry. My sister and I ordered salmon one was thick and very overcooked and the other was only about 1cm and somehow raw, I like a rare salmon but this was inedible. We sent the raw one back and could only eat about half of the overcooked salmon then another salmon came out even more overcooked than the first one. When we said we did not this or another one as everyone else had finished eating, they refused to give us a refund and stated ‘the chef was happy with the way it was cooked’ even when we asked for the chef to come out and explain how that was possible? the very young supervisor said he had left and refused. The staff were all very young and nice enough, and it was not their fault to be put in a situation where apparently there was no manager and we were unhappy and the person responsible (chef)was not able to fix their mistake. We would not recommend this place as it way too overpriced for the quality of any of the meals we ate. With so many quality restaurants in the hunter this was a shame.

After trying to book else where, this was the only spot available. No option to have mail course only, had to order 2 course. Prawns we ordered for entrée could smelled from across the table. Only tried one which left a bad taste.
When I sent it the dish back and questioned the freshness. the waiter advised they peel them.

One other table in the whole place. I would avoid this place at all cost.
only thing I enjoyed was the Ginger beer

Food was terrible worst pizzas I've ever had. Service not much better , such a hassle to ask for one topping not to be on the pizza. Then when the pizzas come out they were inedible, reminding me of a frozen pizza but worse as expectations were higher.

Drank our beers and left hungry basically. Strike off Matilda bay as a visit spot again in the Hunter.

Very limited dinner menu, only one vegetarian option which was not enjoyable at all. The lamb rump on the other hand was delicious. The prawn entree was very poor, 4 small tasteless prawns with 3 pea sized drops of “avocado mousse” and unpleasant tasting radish. We very much regretted having to pay $130 for the unpleasant experience. Would not recommend. Much better food and value at other Hunter Valley restaurants

Food was pretty good, beer and wine was great service was terrible. There was 7 of us and every time someone wanted another drink we had to either get the waiters attention or walk to the bar.

Having dined and stayed with you previously my only suggestion is to stop having a menu where customers are forced into ordering a minimum of two meals (entree/main or main/dessert). Often people just want to enjoy a main with a few drinks. We have only dined in the restaurant once on this occasion because if that. The mains were very tasty

We dined on a Saturday night and once realising it was a set 2 or 3 course menu we were a little dubious HOWEVER the food was amazing. I have never eaten pork that was as tasty and succulent as what was delivered and the chicken entree was devine.

Highly reccomended

We booked a month ago so would have expected to have a decent table. We were put in the back corner of the old section with chairs that were dirty, no air-conditioning and drab decor. The wine/beer choices were disappointing on the group menus. To make it worse the pizza bases were not cooked properly. So overall no we didn't get value for money and no we will not be returning or recommending this place. It wasn't for us.

The service was friendly but poor, plates were not cleared for tables were seen to return their own plates and glasses to the bar. Mine sat on the table for 20-30 minutes.
Was not offered further drinks i had flag someone down to get a drink and it was not very busy. One waitress disappeared and was seen later with the barman updating the chalk board??

It seemed to me that there was a significant lack of experience amongst the staff, i don't think anyone was over 20YOA and hence there was not someone really seeing what was going on and reacting.

Sorry it was as poor as i can remember.
Also i thought the wine list was poor and it did not include an organic wine?

Cheers
I'm 57 and have probable never complained like this more than twice in my life.
I think my expectations were significantly different from a place like this.

The accommodation was great as was the accommodation reception staff.
