Masuya Restaurant is located in a building, which has been designated as a cultural asset, on O’Connell Street in Sydney. This is the same place as the office of Kanematsu Gosho, the pioneer of Australia – Japan trades, was situated in 1980. Masuya Restaurant opened in 1993, then full renovation was implemented in 2006.

The approx. five meters long sushi counter, designed by architect Robert Toland in ‘kabuki red’ with an idea of the stage of kabuki, has since fascinated not only local Australian customers but also various people with different backgrounds.

A showcase displays more than 20 different sushi ingredients everyday including locally produced fish, which is purchased on the day. Other carefully selected ingredients are wagyu beef, free-range pork, and seasonal vegetables. Specially designed tableware of Malcolm Greenwood and tables made of Tasmanian Oak is also creating a great atmosphere. Enjoy your time in this amazing space of hospitality.

    Great genuine Japanese cuisine all very fresh and great flavors . The waitresses were very friendly , polite and good service all through the meal It’s a great value authentic restaurants with lots of space between the tables

    Excellent sushi especially the blue fin tuna sushi literally melts in your mouth. The tempura had the right texture although the prawns were a bit soggy / undercooked. The tempura sauce was good, but I prefer to add daikon radish in the sauce (which was not available).

    We ate at Masuya restaurant, not their izakaya. Food was wonderful and the staff was quite attentive and helpful. They have an extensive menu - not just sushi or tempura. A great choice for dinner!

    pro: - good service - good food con: - bamboo disposable chopsticks shouldn't be used or provided in a restaurant like masuya - napkin quality is poor. both my friend's and my cloths are left with white 'stuff' from the napkin after meal

    Absolutely fantastic food and service. The fish (sushi and sashimi) was very fresh and our table server Momo was very attentive. Highly recommended and will be back soon.
