Masons restaurant bar
We know it’s easy to be bamboozled by flowery language on restaurant menus. Therefore we’ve deliberately kept our menu simple with the names of traditional British dishes that you’ll immediately recognise. We then expect our experienced waiting staff to do the rest – giving you all the details of the locally sourced ingredients that make up the day’s dishes – to help you make your choices.
A NOD TO THE FREEMASONS’ HISTORY OF OUR ICONIC BUILDING
Just as the Masons’ name references the building’s unique history, the food at Masons also nods to some of Britain’s most traditional and best loved dishes. All ingredients on our a la carte grill menu are carefully sourced from across the British Isles, including Goosnargh Chicken from Norfolk and Dukesmoor Fillet/Carpaccio from Northumbria.
This restaurant offers the full package. Excellent food, impeccable service and a superb ambiance. During our midweek visit my partner and I went for the Chateaubriand sharing plate, with the accompanying vegetables and the probably the best fondant potatoes I’ve tasted. In fact I’ll go as far as saying that from the Scallop starters, aforementioned mains and the house Pannacotta dessert this was by far one of the best executed meals I’ve had in a long time. We past on our compliments to the chefs. Definitely worth a visit, great cocktails too..
Very busy breakfast when we arrived meant that our order was slightly delayed and mine was ever so slightly wrong, but the food is excellent and the chap in charge excellent!
Enjoyable lunch with an old friend. We were made to feel very welcome. My steak was a bit on the tough side but friend’s salmon salad was delicious. Delightful building.
Living quite close to The Masons, I watched the refurbishment of this building with great interest. Once completed and trading as the Masons, I was very eager to try it out, as the restaurant looked gorgeous. We booked a table for a Sunday early dinner, we were a group of six friends on a sort of reunion. The service could not be faulted from start to finish, our waitress was a Polish girl and was very professional, however some of the food elements were disappointing. One of the party is pescatarian, ordered an aubergine humus as a starter, this was not at all pleasant to eat, we told the waitress and she changed it for smoked salmon, which was lovely. For mains, three of us had the sirloin of beef for which a £2 supplement was charged on a fixed price menu, in the first instance we had to ask for steak knives as the beef was hard to cut, but then it was really tough and hard to chew. The other dishes were ok but nothing sensational. Again we pointed this out to our waitress and she took a percentage off the bill. We didn’t want our bill to be reduced, it was a special occasion for us, we just wanted to be as delighted with the food as much as we were with the restaurant.
I have to say it was a disappointment but could be so good.
Gorgeous setting and lovely food. Friends didn’t enjoy the toast with prawn cocktail starter and would have wanted soft bread instead. I had carpaccio and rabbit and both were stunning and gluten free was no issue. Wine options lovely. The decor is stunning but feel they need to get the ambience music right. Food wonderful though and I can’t wait to go again. Had a voucher which made it brilliant vslue
Food not hot enough, beef very fatty, slow service although staff very pleasant and helpful,
I took my mum for lunch one Sunday. The waiters were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very nice and beautifully presented. My mum who is usually very picky had a wonderful time and we will definitely go back.
Place is lovely and the staff especially our waiter was excellent! The food however was a disappointment.. felt like they tried very hard but quality needs to be the priority rather than being too fancy.
This was one of the best dinners I ever had and the service was outstanding, too!
Excellent food and service highly recommend, decor plush clean we will definitely be returning
We had a great time at masons, food, setting and the staff were all amazing! Highly recommend.
Beautiful place, fantastic food, top rate service and excellent value for money.
Beautiful restaurant with super friendly waiters. The food was so-so.
Lovely food with excellent service. Would recommend to anyone wanting lovely food with down to earth but excellent service.
Visited on Sunday 14th April for the 1st time. Very impressed. Really nice restaurant, great food, great service and great experience. Will definitely go back
Visited for pre show dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Great service and the building is stunning. Good food. We're definitely going back
Outstanding food and service in this fabulous addition to Manchester City centre. Look forward to visiting again and would highly recommend to anyone
Masons is definitely in my top three Manchester restaurants. It’s consistent, comfortable and they know how to season. Glad they’ve finally got a cocktail menu too. The clientele photos I’ve seen on their social media are not the kind of people I’ve ever seen in there (a positive, IMO). As long as things stay the same (not the menu) I will keep returning.
Had the lunch menu. The steak was beautifully cooked and the chips were just right. Crispy outside soft and creamy inside.
Great value with a drink included and the wine was good quality too.
Will definitely explore the full menu on a return visit.
Lovely place, nice food, good service but seating in booths far too low for tables!
We had a great meal with fantastic food, great service and lovely drinks. Cannot wait to visit again
I like your service very much just been disappointed with a food;( but we will be back to give you the second chance
The setting was beautiful and the food was a good standard but it took ages to get served, both food and drinks, and then my friend and I both ordered from the set lunch menu that should have been £9.50 including the wine or a soft drink but were charged nearly £24. We didn't realise until after as we we pushed for time trying to get back to work for a meeting because it took so long to get served. It was also quite cold in there.
Excelent meal from start to finish, staff are friendly and welcoming great place, highly recommended! Very high quality tasty food perfectly cooked!
Had a great evening at Mason’s. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the scallops starter. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself was beautiful, loved the setting and there was a relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely return soon!
Went for lunch on Friday with my wife and boss - pre booked a table and went for the lunch menu. I had steak sandwich and chips which was well cooked and very tasty. The wife and boss had hot salmon and new potato salad which they both said was absolutely delicious. The price was £9.95 and included a drink - I had a beer and the others had a glass of wine -whilst it was only a small glass it was probably enough considering it was lunch and we had to go back to work. The disappointment for me was the table(booth) behind me, they were so loud and noisy that we could hardly think let alone have a conversation. Nevertheless, this was not the fault of the restaurant just some very inconsiderate people. I will definitely come back.
Mason's is excellent in every way. The produce is always fresh never frozen. The staff polite and helpful.
Went for lunch and good value lunch menu in pleasant surroundings. As mentioned in other reviews, need some cushions because very attractive seating is too low for the lovely glass tables so feels awkward when trying to eat!
Amazing food, service and atmosphere. We will be back.
Just great food & service in a very nice environment.
The worst I've had as loing as I can remeber," pink " beef was grey, dry and tough the yorkie look like chef had sat on it before sending out the potates were hard, nothing had any flavour. The pate for starters wasn't much better, served with 3 crackers the size of 50p coins - very very poor
Everything about our evening was very enjoyable. Food was very good, service excellent and Masons is a very comfortable, relaxing place for a meal out. A little more variety in the choice of vegetable side dishes would have been welcome. In truth if half stars were available I would have given 4.5 for food rather than 4.
This was my second visit to Masons and once again it didn’t disappoint. The food, service and ambiance all top notch. One of my favourite restaurants in Manchester.
Excellent service,friendly staff,fantastic food.
Great experience the service was friendly and the food was well presented and tasted was superb.
I do not get starters being served on a piece of slate, plus the cooking of Rabbit was dreadful.
Food was excellent, and the service was very good. All in a all a very pleasant dining experience
Excellent value and top quality sunday afternoon. Really enjoyed it.
Food was terrible. Had to send back both dishes. But the waiter and manager did a great job and didn’t charge us for anything.
Would not return as everything was wrong with the dishes.
Some of the main items were cold on arrival unfortunately. Manager dealt with complaints sufficiently. I've been before and it felt like a different experience this time around sadly, perhaps because it was a Saturday lunchtime. Will go and try it again in future, but in the evening.
