Masala y Maiz
The food at Masala y Maiz was very good and we enjoyed dining there, but we left feeling like it was a tad overrated - just a little pretentious for a city where great food can easily be found in more homey-feeling environments (and often, for a little cheaper).
Don't get me wrong! The food and service were great, and we left happy & full. But I also agree with previous reviewers that the food veered more on the Indian side than the Mexican side. For us, we only had 4 days in CDMX and in hindsight, probably would have enjoyed a more authentically Mexican meal for the somewhat short amount of time we had.
Surprising integration of flavors: what a wonderful treat!! Thanks to the chefs for their imaginative dishes and warm and personal service.
All around, one of the best dining experiences. Masala y Maíz nails it on all fronts, welcomingly, openly, and passionately.
Food, beverage, service, and ambiance all shine so powerfully.
Sincerest thanks for the experience.
Original, cool and delicious
Food and service were amazing . You could eat here everyday and have a different and amazing experience. Ambiance is so groovy
The combination of Mexican and Indian is amazing. Very tasty plates. Service is very good.
Coffee is BAD (I can’t believe they serve brunch and have such a crappy coffee).
Chairs are uncomfortable.
Prices could be lower or portions larger..

A gem in a quiet neighbourhood. Innovative menu and decor. Attentive staff and excellent food and wine. Absolutely fabulous.
Extraordinary, creative fusion executed perfectly. Eclectic and unique wine selections. Overall an amazing and fun experience.
simply the worst meal we had in CDMX. there are so many other great places to eat here that won’t stuff you. save your money and spare yourselves the agony of sitting in a narrow garage. i’m baffled. the indian side of the food was completely weak. the patra was unbelievably salty. one of our dishes didn’t come forever, which was going to be comped due to how long we waited but in the end it was on the bill. we were confused as to why we were charged almost $100USD for a bottle of wine we didn’t order. we were told by the owner he would bring us something to taste. how did that translate to a $100USD bottle of wine??? we paid the bill and left. never want to be back there again.
Food was good and creative but more Indian and less Mexican. Sadly, I think we got sick from something we ate here, which ruined my experience in the end
Super friendly staff, including the chef who came to talk and recommend food and wine to all his patrons. Zero complaints about this amazing foodie experience.
Hands down the best meal I have ever had. This restaurant is absolute Magic. I came back a 2nd time within 48 hours. Chef’s wine list is a must try as well, let them pick everything out.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Staff and chef are amazing.
Few restaurants achieve a sophisticated blend of home and new cuisines. Masala y Maiz is one such success story. Curry and chile come together; fried chicken and purslane share a plate; classic Mexican decor and modern design and hospitality are united here. My meal started out with a great red wine made by a French women's winemaking collective and ended with a classic Mexican coffee and a maracuya (passion fruit) tart and a flan. Saquib was a great host to guide us through choosing dishes, and Mariana was a great server, making us feel at home and able finish our meal after the restaurant had officially closed. A standout.
Amazing. So good
A delightful journey through California, Mexico and East Africa. A true gem in CDMX. I found the food to be inviting, unique, yet comforting. Well done on every level.
It's quite an interesting proposal in all senses. Masala y Maíz manages to turn a garage into a cozy restaurant with a shared table. The menu is short, and the portions small, so you can share a wide variety in order to try more. Everything was delicious, but I especially enjoyed the soft shell crabs. There are two buts: the acoustics (it's too noisy) and the wine list (there's not a single bottle under 70 USD). The service, by the way, it's great. There's a waiter from Sonora who's very charming and good at his job.
Delicioso... comida imaginativa y excitante
I've been aware and have been following Norma & Saqib for some time now.I was looking forward to the visit on this trip to Mexico City. The dining experience did not disappoint.
Wonderful to see a chief be so passionate about his food, Saqib is charming, super friendly, so welcoming, you feel like you have know each other for ages.
We had asked him to recommend some dishes and the wine, tailored to our likes, perfection.
If you like Mexican & Indian food, this marriage of flavors and tastes is sublime.
If your in CDMX do not pass Masala y Maiz up!
Masala y Maiz is a vibrant, creative and delicious culinary experience. They offer a satisfying range of vegetarian and meat based items. The fusion of flavors and techniques from India and Mexico are full of love and respect for the food, culinary traditions, for the people that grow the food, those that prepared the food and those that eat it. I highly recommend this place!
Probably our best food experiences in Mexico City. From the wonderful menu guiding by Saqib to each amazingly delicious course laced with spices from Mexico and Asia led by Chef/Owner Norma. The design of the space is simple, yet elegant and supports the experience beautifully. We have been many times and are always surprised by the fantastic wine collection that pairs with the beautiful meal. A starter dish as simple as Esquites takes the traditional Mexican street food, and elevates it into orbit with curry spices, a unique mayonnaise and beautiful presentation. Five stars!
Food is incredible and we will definitely return again soon!
Excellent and amazing! Great natural wine selection, amazing host, and THE best food I had in the city.
Masala y Maiz is a very unique restaurant using sustainable foods. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions were VERY small, appetizer size. I would recommend the restaurant.
Sat in a long crowded hallway. Small portions. Left hungry
What a unique fusion of Mexican and Indian cuisines!! The quality was superb!
We all had an amazing time at Masala & Maiz. The dishes specially the fried chicken and the soft shell crab were incredible. Unique flavors and a nice surprise to find out their organic wine selection. Would definitely come back!
Wonderful ambience, food, and service. Inventive flavors, gorgeous presentation, and fairly priced for more upscale dining. Will be back!
Excellent experience, met new friends in a communal dining setting. The owners take care of every detail to create a special meal and make guests feel welcome. Lovely space, and highly recommended in Mexico City!
A wonderful experience!!
I will be back!
It was FABULOUS! The cuisine is creative and tasty. The environment is unique and friendly. Overall, a wonderful experience.
Exceptional. Once in a lifetime food in friendly atmosphere. If you have the opportunity to go, you must.
listen. this is important. THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT in CDMX.
that is all.
Masala y Maiz is an incredible find. Loved the food and the atmosphere, a must for anyone visiting CDMX.
The mix of Indian and Nexican food allowed for the chef to create some outstanding plates. Would recommend sharing, do you can enjoy more.
Most restaurants hyped as much as Masala Y Maiz don't really live up to the praise. Masala Y Maiz absolutely does - they deserve every word of praise they've gotten in the press and then some. Really unique, delicious, thoughtful cuisine with excellent FOH service too.
