About this restaurant

  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Lively
  • Great for creative cocktails
Opened in 2010 and relocated to its current location in 2014, Marlowe is a New American bistro located in San Francisco’s Soma neighborhood in the former COCO500 space.

Brought to you by Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio and award-winning San Francisco designer Ken Fulk, Marlowe focuses on classic comfort foods with flavorful twists, like Chef Puccio’s signature Marlowe Burger, seasonal poulet vert, brussels sprouts chips and quail egg topped steak tartare.

Taking inspiration from the butcher shops of the past, Marlowe is designed with a sleek but comfortable feel, featuring white subway tiles, white marble, deep blue banquettes, wood block tables and specials listed on rolls of butcher paper.

Marlowe delights with "outstanding food" and friendly service, offering standout dishes like deviled eggs and lamb. Its vibrant atmosphere and great cocktails make it a lively choice for gatherings, although noise levels can be high. Server had trouble knowing salad dressing options, we didn't request anything unusual or out of the ordinary. It may have been an "off" day and I'll go back again with the hopes of improvement. Food quality was OK, nothing special.

The food was outstanding, the Heirloom tomato salad and the deviled eggs were michelin worthy. Service was super friendly, our waiter happily accommodating our request for a bigger table.

Marlowe is well established and has been fairly consistent for a long while. It was busy night, very loud inside, and a tad hard to hear the two people with me. Service, food and drink were fine, nothing special good or bad. I think for the price, nothing stood out as very notable. Maybe just the melon starter where the melon was almost like crudo or carpaccio - that was nice. Scallops were very tender and the sauce was tasty.

Good food if you like rich, salty, umami flavors. Great cocktail menu, though prices are on the high end for similar SF restaurants. Unfortunately, the noise level is unbearably loud. Marlowe has hard tiled walls, tiled floors, and a hard ceiling without any acoustic panels. This creates a deafening din of people shouting across their table to be heard (especially with larger groups). Really hard to converse here.

Actually loved everything about it. We unexpectedly got there 45 minutes early and they cheerfully accommodated us. We had the deviled eggs and lamb appetizers and a scallop dish and black cod mains and everything was great. Chef’s kiss on the sauces! I wanted to take them home. Loved the wine list. Stolpman wine on a BTG list tells me they know wine and value. All in all, very nice evening.

This was probably the best choice we’ve made in a while to go out and try something new. And we have zero regrets. By far some of the best lamb we’ve ever had. Such an absolutely alive place to eat. Felt like the room was filled of the brim with great energy, and the food was undeniably some of the best we’ve had… ever. Will be back, might even be regulars lol.
