Marion offers a sophisticated space, spread across two shopfronts on Gertrude Street in Fitzroy, and is adaptable to a variety of occasions. There are seats, as well as standing and leaning spaces to suit those who pop in, and those who stay for the long haul. Marion only reserves a small amount of tables, the remainder of Marion is available for guests on a walk in basis.
The food menu is seasonal and changes daily with both small and large sharing plates available.
The lengthy wine list features small producers and exciting blends with wines sourced locally and from around the world. Marion was lucky enough to be awarded The Age Wine List of the Year in 2016.
The Deadman’s Dozen is a monthly mixed dozen wine selection sought out by the wine team at Marion. The Deadman’s Dozen is available to purchase whenever you visit Marion, as are all of the wines listed.
Creative and original menu, supported by a thoughtful wine list, attentive service, great ambience.
I had a much better experience last time, unfortunately this time i was seated on the small circular tables at the front and my intimate dinner didn't feel intimate at all. The portion sizes of the meals were smaller than i remember and the snapper didn't have as much flavour as we would have liked. Not that impressed overall.
Brilliant wine bar that invites deliciousness and relaxation over a great drop of vino!
We were celebrating my birthday and wanted a special night, instead it was really disappointing . Our waitress was very unfriendly , no help with wine and when we ordered drinks in poured both our glasses . Considering there’s a line on them you’d think they would get this right . Two of our threee dishes were nice but the pasta was such a let down it tasted like it could of been out of a packet and was nothing special at all. After hearing great things of this place left upset and won’t go back
Look, it’s a decent wine bar and restaurant. But it seems to be resting on its laurels. None of the dishes really jumped out at me. And the service was mediocre. Not bad. Just not what you’d expect for that price point.
Food was pretty good but not Michelin good. Service was not good. Wine was great (the largest wine list I ever did see). But I'm not sure if I'd got back to be honest.
Overpriced food with rude waiters. We were rushed through our meal, and they up charged us on most dishes. The wine they recommended tasted very ordinary.
A friend was visiting from Berlin and I wanted to take her somewhere special for lunch. I am also a huge fan of Cutler and Co. next door, which is more upscale but wanted something more casual for this occasion. I always enjoy the Marion experience and was looking forward to introducing my friend. The Prawn and Horseradish roll, a perfect starter, followed by whole Baby Snapper Meuniere accompanied by bean salad. All absolutely sublime choices. We had the most delicious lunch surrounded by friendly and courteous staff. Marion is certainly a keeper!
Excellent service. Great wine list. A nice place to sample some of Australia's most interesting wines, or other treats from the old world.
Great place for a drink and/or dinner. Great wine, good atmosphere and excellent service. Would definitely recommend!
Ambience and food were both amazing, highly recommend.
My favourite place in Melbourne. Lots of lovely things to try that might be a bit out of the comfort zone but they are always awesome.
Good spot for a quick catch up and a glass of wine but really annoying lack of space on tables. The interior space is roomy with two areas for eating, yet the seating areas are crammed together and the tables are ridiculously small for more than 2 plates of anything - why? In Europe I get that tiny spaces dictate using minimal furniture and seating needs to be close to other tables, but the amount of floor space unused or taken up with non functioning furniture defies logic and results in unnecessary discomfort while eating. The food is delicious but I have little desire to do more than have a quick glass of wine while the furnishing lends itself so poorly to a comfortable extended lunch or dinner.
Delicious food, fantastic service, great ambience. The happy hour is a fantastic deal!
Loved Marion and will return on my next visit to Melbourne
Always love Marion. Great food, wine and ambience!
Marion consistently delivers - great food, service and ambience.
Poor service and overpriced food. Awful experience. Waiters completely ignored us for the first 20 minutes. The next table came at the same time have already got their main course, but we have not even got our drinks. After that, our glass stayed empty for more than three times, it was impossible to make eye contact with any waiter to make an order.
I heard some great things about this restaurant via qantas magazine. The choice for wines was very ordinary. My experience was they were wineries I’d never heard of which is not a problem, however the cost per glass and the quality was very much below par.
The food was a 7 or 8/10.
Tables are close together, like a bit too close.
Loved Marion, its simply one of Melbourne's finest restaurants!
Great wine , great food and awesome service. Perfect place to meet up with friends!
We went for the Scilian food/wine experience. Should have gone to Sicily....
The wines by glass were very expensive for average wine, and range of food also average.
We used to go to Marion a few times per year two years ago, went last year once and found wine selection by glass also poor and expensive, so this was the first time we had been since then.
Marion, we won't be back!
Local favourite - food and wine list always a winner.
The night was perfect - food , wine , service & ambience !
Prima eten in yuppie omgeving. Gezellig en prachtige wijnen!!
What a perfect date night! Amazing food, amazing wine, amazing staff, amazing space. Thank you!
Love this place, such delicious food. We had the chef's selection because otherwise it's just too hard to choose.
Love this place..only criticism was the table which was on a corner next to a pile of boxes..
A bit loud but really good atmosphere, food is delicious
Perfect tonic to end my weekend in Melbourne. Food was amazing and the wine suggestions superb.
Our second time there and just as incredible as the first. Incredible food, great service and a nice, relaxed atmosphere.
Definitely loved the whole experience. Food exciting and delicious, love the atmosphere funky and fun but serious about food and wine. Service was impeccable our waiter was knowledgeable answered all our questions with patience and humour. Have been before and will return. Marion delivers on food wine and service.
We loved our experience and especially the food.
Our female waiter was very very good - attentive and professional.
The male perhaps manager or supervisor who showed us to our table and later brought the bill - was the only disappointment . His manner was rude and condescending which then ruined our night somewhat ...
It was a birthday celebration ( 2 people) we were made to feel very unwelcome.
Love the ambience and because the food was outstanding we will go back - hopefully he won't be there next time we visit.
Loved it! The food was super tasty, fabulous customer service and great vibe. I will definitely return. Thank you!!
Marion is a neighbourhood gem, for those of us lucky enough to live in the neighbourhood. The menu is always interesting, there are always some challenging flavour combinations to explore, or not; the wine list is worthy of exploration too. We're looking forward to our next opportunity to visit.
Food was excellent, but we found hairs TWICE during our meal, once with the garlic bread starter and once with the cheese at the end. Therefore two stars for service, one for each hair.
Fantastic, the food is some of the best in Melbourne.
Great atmosphere, fantastic service with an awesome knowledge of the wine on offer. The wine list is like nothing I have seen before. The food is great for sharing and trying out lots of different dishes. Great night out.
Great restaurant, food and service were both of a high standard. The only let down was the noise which was so loud I could hardly hear my partner sat across from and this somewhat tainted an otherwise lovely meal.
Wine and food were fantastic. My partner doesnt eat seafood so the menu was a bit limiting but the choices we made were fantastic! Great slection of wine!
