Marion is a neighbourhood gem, for those of us lucky enough to live in the neighbourhood. The menu is always interesting, there are always some challenging flavour combinations to explore, or not; the wine list is worthy of exploration too. We're looking forward to our next opportunity to visit.
Food was excellent, but we found hairs TWICE during our meal, once with the garlic bread starter and once with the cheese at the end. Therefore two stars for service, one for each hair.
Fantastic, the food is some of the best in Melbourne.
Great restaurant, food and service were both of a high standard. The only let down was the noise which was so loud I could hardly hear my partner sat across from and this somewhat tainted an otherwise lovely meal.
Wine and food were fantastic. My partner doesnt eat seafood so the menu was a bit limiting but the choices we made were fantastic! Great slection of wine!
Great food, service and atmosphere....exactly what a wine bar should be like. If you are hungry , the chef's menu for 65$ is really good value.
we arrived for a late sitting at Marion, one guest short of our promised 4, but the staff treated us as though nothing was a bother and treated us kindly, warmly and a bit 'old-friendy'. We loved it! We had also filled up on cheese prior to our sitting, so weren't starved, but did manage to put down the most delicious roast chicken I've ever eaten, incredible wine, beetroot salad, crudo - simply fabulous all round. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Everything’s done so well. And nothing is fussy. Professional on every level.
Everything was fabulous. We loved our dining experience and will be back 100%.
Been to Marion before and really enjoyed it. This time our party of four (with a booking) was placed in a cold, uncomfortable window bench seat (although the place was fairly empty). The waiter was impatient and honestly rather snooty, and mumbled responses that were hard to understand. We felt like we were imposing on him while simply trying to order wine and light food. Ordered cheese puffs that were empty of all content, just thin shells with faint whiff of cheese. A mussel dish was much better, and a side serve of bread was a little sticky but pleasant enough. Wine perfectly fine. Waiter muttered something about a winemaker visiting, and later another man came to our table, uncomfortably said hello for no reason we could fathom, we cheerfully said hello back and he left. Perhaps that was the winemaker? I didn't even know if we were drinking his wines. The whole experience was quite uncomfortable, and we decided to leave. My friends noticed the cosy-looking "place next door", and were surprised to hear it was another part of Marion, as our own experience had been cold and uncomfortable. Such a shame!
Food was fabulous but Waiter was a bit pretentious and not warm. I also don't like it when you are told there is another booking at 8:15 when you are not advised of this when you book and made to hurry up. Spoilt what was otherwise a lovely dinner.
Absolutely beautiful dining experience - the food, wine, service and atmosphere were spot-on. We will certainly be back.
Would not recommend. Poor value, service and experience. We spent over $700 for wine and chefs selection- we were given half a basic roast chicken and chips, cold mussels and oily flat bread spilt between four people. Arrogant wait staff didn’t help the experience. A shame as Culter & Co that is closely related provides a brilliant experience?!
If you haven’t had the entree bread, or the mussels here - you haven’t lived 💕
Great place, great food and wonderful waiting staff. Not the cheapest, so if it's value for money you're after this may not be for you. We loved it, though!
Great food to complement the vast wine list. Particularly enjoyed the pine mushrooms and the quince mille feuille. Unobtrusive and helpful staff.
We needed a relaxed and easy to chat afternoon venue. The waiters must've known. They didn't badger us to hurry up and order and had great suggestions when we asked and we relaxed instantly upon being seated. Beautiful spot and wonderful food and drink. Exactly what we needed!
Excellent service and knowledgeable staff. A little noisy but not uncomfortably so. Great food.
Next level food in a beautiful setting with fabulous service - what else could you ask for? Cannot wait to go back. Thank you for a lovely dinner.
Great food as per usual - although the current menu needs a bit of a shake up.
Service was great but the male waiter we had was loosing interest by the the end of the night and seemed to have an issue with us wanting to try wine. Still not rude enough to offset another great Marion experience.
Our original plan was to have a drink or two with breakfast before doing a few wines elsewhere on the way to pick up the child. Needless to say we ended up staying and enjoying what Marion has to offer. Had a window seat, sun was shining, delicious food (hard to go past the fried eggs and black pudding) and the Mimosas went down a treat.
Special pasta with sweet corn was delish, beetroot dish was also awesome. Rump cap was perfect as well!
Coffee was like dishwater. My second cup where I asked for double shot was not much better than first. Both lacked good crema.
Delicious food served in a comfortable setting and by efficient staff
Amazing wine selection, and the staff is great help if you want to try different wines. They're very friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere and food were also wonderful. Highly recommend and will be back!
Enjoyable service, flexible and delicious food. I will be back.
Great place to have lunch or dinner, love coming back to Marion every time.
Excellent service and a diverse/delicious menu, perfect for sharing
Lovely food, service a little disinterested and he farted over our table when serving the adjacent table, awkward and displeasing!
Faultless. The food was intriguing varied and excellent. Stylish and charming ambience and attentive service.
Fantastic evening at Marion for a family birthday. Great food and wines to match. Service very attentive and friendly.
Excellent wine recommendations to really tasty food! We loved it!
the bread alone is worth stopping in - amazing! (also the mussels, and the olives were a highlight)
Lovely weekend lunch date - superb food ambience and wines!
Great experience. The food was delicious. Friendly knowledgeable staff who made some excellent wine recommendations. Loved it.
Make sure you specify details of the chef’s selection before ordering — we had a terrible value because the waiter didn’t explain that we would get only two main dishes for four people (and we had requested a meatless pasta dish as one — but not the only — main dish). We definitely did not spend $65/person. They gave us fries to glut us toward end of dinner, a poor move. Also waiter didn’t know much about wine. You’d think for a wine bar...
Marion's food menu is beautifully complemented by their vast wine selection. The environment, both inside and out, is ideal for casual, intimate dining or with a larger group.
A very nice place for a good meal with great service and a nice wine list
Great service and attention. Food was on point. Loved the roast chicken
