Specialising in “babushka cooking”, the menu is replete with Russian dishes and influences from the former Soviet countries of Georgia, Ukraine and also offers an extensive selection of salads and lighter dishes displaying a liberal use of fresh herbs. Its generous and exquisite selection of tea-time treats, cakes and infusions, meanwhile, is hard to resist, and available throughout the day.
With extraordinary attention to detail, Mari Vanna transports each guest into the Russian home of a bygone era where shelves are adorned with matryoshka dolls, trinkets and tchotchke. Displaying true Russian tradition from top to toe, Mari Vanna is a rare find in London.
Initially opened in a private apartment in St Petersburg, Mari Vanna has sister restaurants in Moscow and New York.
Seven layers of tender pastry soaked in honey
Home marinated girolles, button and porcini mushrooms
Extremely slow service
Absolutely superb as always. Thank you for the great hospitality, ambience and service.
This quirky Russian restaurant deserves a visit for its interesting homely decor, very authentic Russian food (at least my two Russian guests said so...) and great location just near Harrods etc. The food wasn't particularly to my taste but we had a lovely evening and the staff were very nice and welcoming.
We arrived an hour ahead of time and the restaurant was so kind to accommodate us at the bar earlier and let us order some food
Hot appetisers can take 30+ minutes, so order cold appetisers if hungry or on a schedule.
Ambience is really cool, it feels like you are in a old house.
Service was really good and the lady who served us was really nice.
Just one thing to say, when entering the place, it is very narrow and there’s no space for people walking in and out on the same time. Greeting should be reviewed .
Overall I feel we had such a great time and would definitely come back!
Something different with delicious food and lovely service. Feels high class but like you’re in someone’s living room
Our orders took too much time, we waited for more than 35 minutes for dumplings. Servers werent very attentive but nice atmosphere and the food was good.
Authentic Russian food in the heart of London. Highly recommended especially with your other half. Cosy and light atmosphere. Honey cake was truly divine!
I really like this place, food, atmosphere, everything. However, the staff can be a bit more friendly, they should smile more and be able to speak English to the guests.
Sehr authentisch!
Very authentic and delicious Russian food. my Russian friend recommended it to me.
Really cute interior & excellent food with an extensive cocktail & wine list. Very good value especially considering the high quality - can’t wait to go back and try more things.
Mediocre food and unfriendly service. Overpriced. The Beef Stroganoff was the worst I ever had.
Really Russian kitchen, tasty food in a lovely restaurant, friendly and professional staff, all amazing.
Lovely and romantic.
Although the food was as fantastic as always, the service was a bit disappointing for a posh restaurant in Knightsbridge. I was met and seen off by a grumpy hostess - no greeting as I arrived, and she then dropped my scarf as I was leaving and pretended not to notice. The staff were busy and it was hard to catch their attention, I ended up helping myself for a menu. Also the lotion bottle in the ladies remained empty for the entire time I was there, which was for the best part of the evening.
We still had a lovely evening and will be back!
Excellent ambience very romantic- great food and service
I would recommend for those looking for authentic Russian cuisine and experience! The food was spectacular and the decor is amazing. It was perfect for a date, however, the waitresses were a little cold and it was occasionally hard to communicate with them as they spoke very little English and presumed you spoke Russian. If there's live music it's quite hard to hear the person across from you, but the singers they hired were very good & lovely!
we really enjoyed the place and the service and the food but the management decision on live music that date being THAT loud honestly was a mistake.. we were not able to have any sensible conversation. Fabulous place to visit when they dont have live music)) unless they decide to do smth about it))
Authentic, homemade Russian food. Cozy ambiente and furniture.
Could do with a friendlier service.
It was our first visit and we loved the place! We will be back soon as there are many other dishes we wanted to try, desserts too as they looked delicious.
Decor is beautiful, music is in line with the theme of the restaurant and even restrooms are charming (and clean). Food's a bit on the heavy side, but that was expected anyway.
Good portion size, good service and not too expensive (unless you order something with caviar, of course).
We were just sorry we did not leave enough space for having one dessert each, as picking only one was very difficult. We ordered the morello cherries, cream and pasty cake and it was AMAZING.
I also recommend to try the blackcurrant and vodka shot. This is probably a bit overpriced, but delicious!
Amazing russian food, the best I have tried in London. My only complaint is that I feel the portion sizes have gotten smaller and the dishes are already quite overpriced.
We had a lovely meal for 5 people, the hosts were very accommodating, the food delicious and atmosphere had a good vibe. Recommend for some authentic Russian food
Mari Vanna is a gorgeous gem in Knightsbridge. Decked out like your favourite Granny's house or, as I've read, a fifties' flat in Moscow, the restaurant oozes cosiness. The food is delicious - and I have many Russians friends who also love it. It is the ideal setting for a romantic lunch or dinner, a family lunch or somewhere to take your friends to. I would suggest sharing as there are so many dishes you'll want to try!
Overall is good! Great ambience, pretty Russian and home-feeling decorations. Food tastes like home-made. Feel like I’m having dinner in a Russian home. Not a fan of beef stroganoff, but will come again for beef pirogi, Borsch and honey cake (heard duck is good too)
disappointed in food quality, sturgeon fish made from frozen, dumplings cold with tasteless soup, stodgy desert far from fresh , main course delivered with delays at different times. not a value for money
Very tasty food! Absolutely delicious but poor service unfortunately
I have eaten at the Mari Vanna on many occasions and I would recommend the restaurant. However, on this last visit the main course for one of our table arrived some 15/20 minutes after the others had arrived and rather spoiled the dinner.
Everything is delicious, as usual.
If you want authentic Russian cuisine, then this is the place! It's like my grandma's cooking was upgraded (don't tell her that!). Thanks for having us - it was nice to see only Russian-speaking staff in your restaurant which made us feel like home.
The level has definitely declined since our last visit one year ago. Food is stodgy and heavy, service lax and disinterested ... sad, because it was such a gem just a short time ago and we couldn’t wait to go again. Hope they can pick themselves up.
Great atmosphere, mediocre food. Pirogi with beef I’d recommended, but skip the Kiev cake which was one of the worst I ever tried
I don't know if it was karaoke night or not, but this restaurant was way too loud for whatever they were doing. My boyfriend and I wanted a romantic night out with good Russian food in a restaurant with a language we both knew, but we couldn't feel comfortable in this place. The food wasn't the best for the price we paid for.
A really lovely setting - like going away on holiday to St Petersburg - food was delicious, especially the meat dumplings and stuffed cabbage, washed down with some very imaginative vodka cocktails.
Overall it’s good, however, the waiters don’t understand English well, we struggled a bit. I ordered 5 slice (bread), she brought only one. Then when I asked for more, they took so long that I had to cancel it and my meal became cold. Food was tasty tho.
Delicious authentic food;
Polite & respectful service
