Our chef Kenta Kayama has been trained under the best chef in Japan, Mr.Kanda who keeps 3 stars Michelin for the whole time Michelin has been published in Japan.
We opened our door in Tokyo in 2014 and became known as the best place for truffle and old world wine lovers. We serve only fresh seasonal truffles from all over the world throughout the year, Italian Alba white truffle to French Perigord black truffle, Tasmanian black, sometimes even from Spain.
As being one of only 112 Krug ambassador chef, we are allowed to have every different bottles of Krug that await you, along with many selection of old world wines. Working with Hawaii's first master sommelier Chuck Furuya, we also have premium wine pairing and monthly wine events.

Tanaka 1789 X Chartier is a new creation by Mr. François Chartier, the world best sommelier in 1994, who created over 60 recipes of the world best restaurant elBulli helping chef Ferran Adrià by using his aromatic science. Third one is Masuizumi of which master brewer Ryuichiro is a facilitator of IWA projet, very traditional sake. First time those 3 sake compared together in history!     It was an experience like none other! We enjoyed tremendously the chef’s tasting menu and wine pairing! The service was excellent and the truffles were outstanding! We are so glad we did this. It was pricey but again we were glad we did it!

    Great truffles menu! Excellent food, perfect service and well selected wine list. While not located in a famous Waikiki Beach area, it has a beautiful interior decorated by Hawaii artist Saumolia. Must try!

    I chose Margotto Hawaii based on the 2023 ratings. I wanted to treat my friends as a thank you for hosting me while on the island. I was able to make a reservation a few days ahead of time on OpenTable. The restaurant called me the day of to confirm the reservation and ask for the name of the person who's birthday we were also celebrating. They went above and beyond to wish my friend a happy birthday. The restaurant is quite small although there is one very large table in the front. The kitchen is open so you are able to see the chefs working. Service is top notch and includes a Sommelier (or at least a personalized wine server). We chose the tapas menu (you have the option to do a chef's tasting). The selections are small but you should be able to find something for everyone in your party. We had the egg toast which was ridiculously small and came with an even smaller "bun" for extra bread. We did choose to have some truffles with this which didn't really enhance the flavor. The pork reduction was the star with this dish. The best plate we ordered by far was the Cacio e Pepe and we added the truffle slices. This dish was bursting with flavor and the sauce was out of this world. I'd return and order two servings of this for the group. My main dish was the lobster which for the price was smaller than I expected but cooked perfectly. If you really want to splurge on a meal and price is no issue than by all means book a reservation at Margotto Hawaii.

    It was a well thought out curated meal. We had the tasting menu. May have been better to include the truffle; and costs, obviously. But I can understand why it was done like it was as part of the show.

    We loved the pasta with truffles and the ice cream with truffle honey. We thought the service was great, but when we ordered the fish dish, it was because the waiter described it with spinach or puréed spinach, and a whole different flavor profile than when it came. so we asked the waiter that brought the fish why it looked so different and didn’t have the spinach with it, and he said that the original waiter gave us the wrong description and list of spices and flavors. I then asked for some of the spinach, and he said they could not do it, because they only had enough for the plates that it was included on. It was very delicious anyway although to me a very small dish for $50 cost but I understand it is a high priced restaurant.  then later we didn’t have the menu anymore and I asked the same waiter who had originally described the fish wrong, about a dish with rice and caviar on it. When he was describing it, I said I thought that it was $80 on the menu and he said no it was $40. Then I said I might want to get that later if we still have room. Then we ordered it and when we got the bill it was $85.  I told them about the waiter telling us it was 40 but they did not want to give me a break on the price.  if he had told me it was 80 or 85 I would not have ordered it because we were going over our budget which was about $250.  it was delicious, but I can just tell you that the waiter or waiters are not clear or helping me to be clear as the customer as to what I’m getting and what I’m paying.

    We were there for Valentine's Day. Food and service were excellent. We didn't have much experience with truffles but that wasn't a problem because our servers did an amazing job of guiding us through the menu. Can't remember if they recommended 10 or 15 grams, but the amount of truffles we had were perfect for our meal. Will come back again to check out their a la carte menu.

    we wanted to love margotto but for a tab of $300+ for two, it was disappointing to say the least. the service is attentive but over solicitous. we were the only ones in the restaurant and seated by a noisy air conditioning unit. i ordered the wagyu beef that the waiter assured was carefully chosen, but all the pieces were oddly tough w/sections i couldn't even chew through and left on my plate. after notifying the waiter, he apologized and said he would notify the owner and chef, but did nothing to rectify the situation. to eat here, you better love truffle because it is in virtually everything. and visually from the outside the restaurant is certainly nothing to write home about lol. ah well. what we hoped would become a regular tradition is now a place we won't be going back to nor recommend.

    If you’re coming to Margotto I suggest making it a special event and make sure to have truffles. If you plan on going and don’t get any truffle you’ll be missing out.

    This place was amazing! So glad we found it just perusing Open Table. We went for our anniversary dinner. The food was decadent, the service was superb, and the staff were warm and welcoming. We had the Grand Degustation experience, plus caviar to kick off the night, 12 courses total, with wine pairings. We had truffles with most of them and it was AMAZING: 1.) Margotto Caviar with soba blini, and condiments of crème fraîche, eggs, and shallots. 2.), 3.), and 4.) Cauliflower soup with uni, A5 Wagyu Tartare, and Crab Tart. 5.) Mushroom Tart. [Truffled] 6.) Sunny Side Up Toast - Shokupan with a Sunny Side Up Egg from Peterson Upland Farms in Wahiawa [Truffled] 7.) Tsuyahime Risotto with foie gras [Truffled] - Our favorite course! 8.) Fresh Catch of the Day with legumes and greens - the skin was so crispy; I called it, “the lechon of fish.” 9.) Cacio e Pepe [Truffled] 10.) A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki with Rice [Truffled] - licking the bowl is frowned upon, so luckily they gave us a spoon to scoop up all of the deliciousness. 11.) Dessert - Made In House Vanilla Ice Cream with White Truffle Honey [Truffled] 12.) Chocolate Truffle with Cream - the little piggy is their mascot (if you will) - Pua, the truffle hunting pig. Seriously, new date night spot when we want to splurge. Now that we’ve had their tasting menu, I want to try their a la carte menu. Definitely recommend if you want extremely tasty Italian-Japanese fusion fare.

    What an amazing meal! Having a box with a black and a white truffle brought to the table at the beginning of the evening is a great start to the wonderful scent and flavor of adding truffles to several dishes. We loved every course, but the Cacio e Pepe with truffles was fabulous. And the most incredible dessert—the honey truffled vanilla bean ice cream was incredible! The wines were also great. Thank you to the entire team for a memorable evening, with a special thank you to our server, Dom. We highly recommend this as one of out favorite meals in Honolulu!

    This restaurant felt as if we were awaiting outside the gates of heaven! My fiancé and I adore fine wine + exquisite food, and this restaurant blew us away! Located with a modest exterior, you walk into an almost art museum vibe. There are just a few tables so staff can be extra attentive to consumers + boy does it show! Their team is so talented + professional! They helped us with pairings + suggestions that were just perfect. This restaurant is worth the investment if you are looking for a fine dining experience minus the egos + pretentious vibes you normally find at coursed tastings. It is some of the best food in the United States, in my opinion, + if you are a truffle lover their pricing is extremely reasonable + they are very generous with the portions. We would travel again to Hawaii just for Margotto!!!!

    We had the chef's tasting and ordered wine pairings. I had a course of caviar to start, but was not offered an apéritif or pairing with the caviar. When I questioned this, I was told the restaurant didn't have a bar, only wines. Really!?! How about a prosseco? After my complaint, the sommelier came over and offered a few sparkling wine selections. This seems small, but in my mind, that's a discriminator. Otherwise, the service was excellent. There was nothing particularly notable in any of the dishes we had, and the atmosphere of the restaurant itself was a bit sterile for our taste. I wouldn't call it inviting. For the money, this should have been an impressive experience. It wasn't.

    Very tasteful and peaceful atmosphere, friendly and attentive service even if a few mishaps. Foodwise very interesting courses - starters really nice, pasta dish excellent, risotto was wet and bland. Ice cream dish tasty but a little molten. Nice ending touch but we found a little insect in our dish which didnt bother us too much. All in all a good experience but not quite great especially for the price

    This was our first time at a fine dining restaurant and it was truly a phenomenal experience. The staff was very kind and accommodating. They walked us through the tasting menu and wine pairing. They explained the history of all the dishes and drinks. Everything tasted amazing! So exquisite! Compliments to the chef!

    As it was our first experience we did not quite know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprise at all the attention we received from the minute we sat down. The person serving our champagne made sure it was chilled to our taste. Henry explained what we needed to know about the truffle, serving, price, etc. Everything we ordered was presented artistically and the taste was exceptional. We have decided to celebrate our next special event here and will recommend Margoto to our friends and family.

    As always, an outstanding evening! Margotto’s ambiance, displayed art, impeccable service, and delectable menu is superb. The menu has changed since we visited last Spring, and it provided significantly more choices. It still has a Tasting Menu, but now provides an ala-carte menu with a variety of pasta, meat and seafood options. And, you can choose to add the seasonal truffle, (either grated or sliced depending on the plate). Prior to the addition of the truffle, the truffle is weighed, and depending on how much truffle you choose to add, the price per gram is added to the bill. Brilliant! We’ve been to many Michelin Starred Restaurants in our travels, and while it’s my understanding that Hawaii itself isn’t a candidate for a Michelin Star, it is definitely a contender for a James Beard Award!
