Marcel's by Robert Wiedmaier Ratings and Reviews
This is a special place.
The service was top notch.
The food was superb.
This is a must for anyone who wants to savor their dining experience.
Take your time, eat slowly, stare into your partner's eyes and enjoy the experience of a lifetime.
I had the venison (best I've ever had), also the duck (so yummy) and the Cherry Bomb (boom). I could not have asked for more.
I would suggest the pre-theater special, more than that is a lot of food. I still brought home the dessert.
Completely unmemorable food elaborately and preciously presented. The Dover sole might easily have stayed in Denmark that day - tasteless and the texture of wet kleenex. Needed a steak knife for the pastry under the scallop tart. Very snooty place for no reason. Washington diners are sophisticated - no need for this show. Ridiculous menu, impossible to compose a coherent dinner; just a bunch of expensive morsels served with a show-offy continual change of flatware. Intrusive over-staffed service. Too much interruption for silly presentation rituals. The plates were decorated for Instagram, but the food was in every way unremarkable. This is not High Style, Old School European - this is just pretentious. If you want true, simple and classic French cuisine served impeccably but sensibly, go to Petit Louis in Baltimore.
We love Marcel’s and go whenever we are in DC for a sensational dining experience and impeccable service! I chose the scallops, lobster flan, foie gras, and duck. I watched Chef Robert Wiedmaier check every dish before it was taken into the dining room. And then we met him! It was an honor to talk to him and then enjoy cocktails with him and his friends in the lounge while enjoying a jazz pianist and bass player! Such a fun evening!
Marcel’s remains the gold standard for classic fine dining in Washington. Food and service are perfection with chef Robert in the kitchen and the magnificent Adnane taking care of the front of the house. You simply will never have a bad experience here. Thanks for another perfect meal for our 27th anniversary.
Marcel's was amazing and well worth every penny. We chose the 4 course tasting menu option and every course was delicious. Celebrating my birthday there was a real treat. The ambiance was lovely--you could actually carry on a conversation--service was perfect, and the food was magnificent. The wine list was a bit pricey, but that's seems to be the case no matter where you go in DC. When we return to DC, we will definitely go back.
My friend and I had a wonderful experience at Marcel's. It is truly a special place for a special occasion. I love the concept of mixing several small courses--it really enables you to sample a variety of special dishes featured on the menu. My only issue is that the excellent and extensive wine list only offered a limited number of wines by the glass. Next time, I'll have to go with a larger group of people!
What a wonderful experience! The food was absolutely amazing and atmosphere was beautiful, but not "stuffy." Between Robert's talent and Jonathan's exceptional service, they made our anniversary perfect and we are telling everyone we know to go there. Thanks for an unforgettable evening!
Celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary and our last day of a 2 week vacation. Our waiter was terrific - personable, efficient and engaged. He could not have been better. The food was wonderful - every dish was perfectly cooked and presented. We are very picky and could find no fault with anything. Just delightful. Highly recommend.
I was visiting Washington, DC on a business trip and wanted to try one of its Michelin Star restaurants so I chose Marcel's on a Wednesday evening. To my surprise, Chef Robert was cooking that evening and I had the most delightful dinner with the wine pairing. My waiter, Jonathan, was extremely informed and helpful. I highly recommend Marcel's if you're looking for a very positively memorable fine dining experience in Washington, D.C.
We've been to Marcel's on special occasions for quite a number of years now. The restaurant continues to maintain its outstanding quality from start to finish. For those who like quiet, elegant dining, this is certainly the place. Table service is a team effort in which we were neither hovered over, nor did we lack the attention of staff the moment we needed someone. On this occasion, the maitre d' helped us out by recommending some very lovely wines to go with the meal. His skill in discerning our tastes from a verbal description was very impressive.
Each dish at Marcel's is an inventive but subtle creation. The chef routinely juxtaposes ingredients one would not obviously expect to complement one another, and the result is always delightful. Our only slight disappointment on this visit was that they were out of two dishes (from 21) by the time we arrived for our 8 p.m. reservation, and they also ran out of some of their bread by the end of the meal (valuable if one wants to sneak some extra tastes of their wonderful sauces). However, these did not seriously detract from another memorable, fabulous experience.
This was an anniversary dinner, and we had a very enjoyable experience with great food. Service was also very good. Nice table cloth restaurant, tables spaced comfortably apart, and quiet dining.
Heirloom tomato salad was very well done, followed by lobster bisque appetizer, and then sliced steak. Chose cheese course as our last course, and it was also enjoyable. Desserts also looked good, too. Complimentary macaroons and chocolate bon bons were served with coffee.
Will definitely go back on other occasions.
In the 5 years since my last visit, Marcel's has retained its elegance, high standards for service and commitment to cuisine excellence. I enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu accompanied by a fine bottle of right bank Bordeaux. The lobster bisque was the finest I've ever enjoyed (and this includes various trips to Maine, New York and Europe) and the white chocolate soufflé was a fitting bookend to a meal that included Norwegian salmon, foie gras and New York strip steak. On a scale of 1 to 5, my rating is a 4. That's not indicative of a flaw but simply the fact that I've dined at Eleven Madison Park in New York and Reinstoff (2 Michelin stars in Berlin) earlier in the year. Marcel's is a Top 5 Washington, DC gem of a restaurant.
It was just...phenomenal. The food was amazing, the service was spectacular, and it was hands-down one of the best meals I've had in DC. The tasting menu was HUGE, and everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. We went for my birthday, and they made the meal SO special. If you have a special occasion you'd like to celebrate, this is by far and away the best place. I really can't say enough good things about my dining experience. It was very expensive, but worth every penny.
