Marble & Grain
The staff accommodate us, as soon as we arrived. We seated in the most busiest area and you can see all the staff and people walking that’s the weak part. Other than that the food, ambiance are excellent.
Ordered the $85 lamb shoulder to share as well as some sides. The lamb was obviously reheated as the inside was cold. We paid for the side of broccoli and cauliflower tossed in olive and chilli pangrattato which came as steamed broccoli, cauliflower and kale in butter in a tiny bowl. After our food arrived we were not asked by any waiter if we needed any more water (we had paid for mineral water which was split between 3 and gone before we ordered food.) We had to flag a waitress down and ask for more water. She returned with tap water, then proceeded to overfill a glass, spilling it all over the table, and didn't apologise or return to clean it up.
Menu is not huge, but the variety is good and easy to find something you would enjoy. Quality of food is excellent
It was our 6th wedding anniversary celebration, we were 4 at the table pre-booked through OpenTable. Friendly staff, delicious food and excellent service. Thank you
While there was a bit of a hullabaloo going on in the entry upon arrival (a few unconfirmed bookings or something of the kind) which did delay us a little in getting in, once we were seen to they seated us immediately and congratulated us on our anniversary (I made a note in our booking) the rest of the night was smooth sailing, the food was great, atmosphere was great and overall we have no complaints!
Welcoming service always with a smile, delicious food
The steak, scotch fillet was tough. The sirloin was beautiful and tender. As a steak restaurant it was a shame that the fillets were not good. It’s expensive to eat out so it was s shame
We loved it - we always enjoy having a meal here. Only downside I would say is that it was quite loud, which made having a conversation a little difficult.
Steak was fantastic, cooked well and tasted great.
None of the 4 of us rated the sides the potatoes were over cooked, dry and tasteless.
I think it may have been kale under the steak, whatever it was was disgusting and not edible.
The mushroom sauce was lovely but charging $5 for it I'd expect to at least get enough to cover my entire steak. The portion was tiny.
Amazing service and food. Zoe was very attentive and friendly.
We had the beef platter and various drinks and had a wonderful time. Food was fantastic, service was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Really enjoyed our dinner there and will go again next time in Canberra
Had a fabulous meal the service was great and the chef didn’t hate me for wanting my steak crucified 😊
We had a really nice night. The staff were attentive and professional. Started with a drink in the bar area and when our table was ready we were escorted to our seats. Entrees, main and dessert were amazing. Good wine, great food.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner on Saturday night. The food was excellent and Phoebe was wonderful and attended to us perfectly. Thanks so much.
Disappointing evening all up. We has the beef cheeks, lamb and baked fish. All were ok, but lacked flavour.
The fish was the most disappointing meal. It came with five mussel shells but only one had a mussel in it.
Noisy & expensive
Very expensive for fairly low quality food and drinks. My steak was so tough that I should have sent it back and our wine purchase was at 4x retail and served a bit warm. Overall we left pretty disappointed.
We ordered the pork belly starter and it lacked seasoning and was dry. We ordered a bottle of wine that had clearly gone off- tarty, limey, acidic. The waitress took it to the manager who sent the waitress back to us with a message that they cant take it back. So I asked to speak to the manager and asked him to try it himself, which he did and finally let us order another bottle. Don’t offer customers a taste of the wine if you don’t understand the purpose of letting them try it in the first place! The second bottle we ordered definitely wasn’t worth the $75 we paid for it.
My friend ordered her steak medium and it came out medium rare. The roast potatoes were pre made and then reheated - likely in a microwave which made them taste rubbery. I ordered the beef cheek which also lacked seasoning and the polenta it came with just lacked flavour all together.
Everything was fantastic except the coffee which was luke warm. They offered to remake but it was time to leave
Seriously good food but its too over pricey. I had wagyu steak but for some reason it has a little bitter taste. Might be from grilling i dont know. Nice overall experience though.
Great service. Original booth seating was cozy and lovely. My beef cheeks were delicious, duck legs not so much and the steak was good. The sides of broccoli and cauliflower was yum. Their desserts are excellent. Reasonably priced wine list.
Sides a massive so share them with 2/3 people.
Very nice food, although a little expensive for the normal punter. We had a great night tailored with great service.
Food was OK but average, steak ordered medium rare but was tough and had limited flavour, potatoes were dry and the entree, pork belly, was also dry
We were welcomed well by staff and we were the only people there at 12.30pm for lunch. Service was quick and staff were pleasant. There was four of us. We were happy with your meals which included the Haloumi Bowl (very good value) 2 Scotch Fillets and a Chicken Wrap.
I have been to this place several times, the first time (close to when it opened) I would have said it was close too if not the best steak house in Canberra. Every time since then it has gotten progressively worse, a steak house that cannot cook steak to your liking is in-excusable. I have only tried entrees and steaks. When you are paying top dollar for a steak you expect: top cut, top cooking. You won’t get either here.
My date said: “it was really bad, I only enjoyed the bread and oil...even the bread could have been better”
Go to: Capital Bar and Grill for a fine dining steak house.
Very enjoyable. My only criticism was the ribeye steak. The order was for medium but it came as more medium to well . It was still ok and not worth a complaint but I just expect the steak to be as ordered in a venue that does pride itself on your steak meals. Still I could have said something at the time but it was still a very enjoyable meal.
Everything about this experience was mediocre. Whilst eating my overcooked jerky (ordered medium temperature scotch fillet) all I could think about wad walking across the road to the Civic pub to enjoy a $15 pub steak!
I will not dine here again.
The staff were rude and not knowledgeable on their cuts of beef (which you expect do not expect at a venue like this). To sum it all up, it was a waste of $257 spent on the worst birthday dining experience I've had!!!
Extremely dissatisfied! We were a table 3. It was absolutely freezing in the restaurant. We asked numerous times to lower the a/c as we were sitting directly under the vents, it was switched down for 10 mins and cranked up again. Service was poor, food average and general ambiance dissapointing. For $130 per person I can eat at many other restaurants which wouldn’t dissapoint.
The food was ok, but definately not as good as the Capitol Bar and Grill. What completely ruined the experience was that some of the staff were very rude. We were on a business dinner and I was embarrassed and had to apologise to my prospect client for the awkward experience with the staff.
Steak was average. the potato that comes with the steak wasn't that great. we enjoyed the onion rings. Service was okay altho my partner kept telling me that he couldn't understand what the server was saying and they looked like they weren't happy to work there. Ambience was not that great. tables looked old and unappealing. overall, the experience was disappointing. not worth for it's price.
Looking for relaxing and enjoyable getaway. Marble and Grain was a great start. Food and total service were well above expectations.
Very accommodating for dietary requirements. For a place that boasts about its meat though the sirloin on the butcher’s board was very disappointing. Very chewy. Ribs on the otherhand was a highlight. Pork belly not bad. Some great flavour combos. Would have liked the onion a bit more well done so that the whole thing could be eaten but understand it was necessary to be firmer to hold the blood pudding.
Delicious steak, with a decent range of cuts to choose from. The service we received was excellent.
My girlfriend has never had a better steak in her life.
Highly recommend this restaurant
Thank you very much.
Took my wife to lunch for her birthday, had T-bone for two and it was cooked to perfection.
The meal, along with a couple of glasses of red, certainly wasn’t cheap, but you got a great meal and it was certainly worth the cost
This was our belated Valentine's celebration, food was great as always.
The loud music killed any chance of quiet conversation. The steak I had was very nice, but they would not swap the duck fat potatoes for another side, apparently they are indivisible!
My wife’s fish was so so. Wine price a touch high for bistro dining. Wait staff were very polite.
The food was absolutely amazing and the atmosphere was nice and great service and really like the fact you can see them cooking
The only difficulty was with parking. While we were fortunate to find a spot right outside the restaurant we were less than impressed with the fellow who backed his car and ended up scratching my husband's new car and then nicked off without leaving any message. Luckily (or not) we watched this play out from the window inside the restaurant and did get his rego no.
Freezing air conditioning, and a steak and sides we could make at home. Nothing special
